Never been tested.

I've got a taco mix that doesn't contain cumin. Honestly, I don't even know the difference between a taco and a burrito. The wife and daughter love Chipotle and always get their burritos. Maybe I'll check it out.

Looks like mostly it's about the size. A taco is intended to be a snack, a burrito is a meal.

I've seen the rice in their burritos. And beans. I hate beans.

Tacos, depending on the region of origin, can be very different. But the main difference between a burrito and a taco is that a corn tortilla is used for tacos and flour tortillas are used for burritos.

Tacos are generally much smaller in size compared to a burrito.

Dude, as many times as you've visited Los Angeles for work, you've never hit one of the hundreds (if not thousands) of taco stands all over the city? Never old school Mexican restaurants like El Cholo or Casa Vega or Frida, et al?

Chipotle isn't Mexican food. It's Amercianized Mexican food. That doesn't make is bad, it makes it not authentic.

And cilantro rules, whether it's on tacos, as a garnish to enchiladas and especially in guacamole.

KCUnited 06-26-2016 12:17 PM

Actually, it's not even close. I'll take authentic everyday of the week. It's SO much more flavorful.

Depends where you are and what you mean by authentic. Texas is obviously full of Americanized places but several interior Mexican restaurants I know are excellent.

You know, it's pretty easy to make food without the use of a particular spice? As in, sans cilantro.

It's basically a green version of a sofrito (which Goya also mass produces), which is just a quick cooking base of onion, garlic, peppers, (herbs in this case) and oil.

FMB obviously doesn't like authentic Mexican food. Then again he's a white man living in Alabama and probably only has choices to restaurants that contain Taco in the name.

Pablo 06-26-2016 12:48 PM

I add chopped cilantro to my quesalupa for that authentic touch only real taco people understand.

I've had some very good Mexican in Tucson and during my work travel. But generally, I'm not big on the cuisine. But again, there are dishes that don't use cilantro or are added at the very end, and it's very easy to order it without.

Whipped up a batch of authentic tacos last week. Soft, supple flour tortillas steamed in the microwave for a minute. 80-20 ground beef with la tiara package mix. Topped with the finest sour cream and sharp cheddar cheese. Extra cilantro. Extra onion. Crushed nacho cheese doritos over the top for that Arizona touch I've heard so much about.

I love cilantro and feel it can be easily heavy handed at times. I'm not a big raw white onion guy, which can turn me off from a lot of authentic Mexican dishes if used with a heavy hand. I don't let it broad brush and entire regional/ethnic cuisine when it happens though.

Pasta Little Brioni 06-26-2016 01:05 PM

Pablo it's not "authentic " unless it includes the butt nuggets from the tanned dude in the taco truck

It's not a heavy-hand thing. Even a little tastes like soap, dude.

I am able to find food in Mexican restaurants that don't use cilantro. So I'm not painting anything. Others are the ones saying I don't like an entire cuisine because I have genetics that make cilantro revolting to me.

I don't dislike the cuisine. I just have to be in the right mood for it. And if I'm going to have it, I'd rather make it myself.

I always order the ground turkey, kale, quinoa, cilantro taco plate. Authentic and packed with flavor. The butt nuggets taste better than black beans at least.

Wow, very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I have to admit that when I first moved to Los Angeles in 1993, I had a very limited palate. I'd never had sushi, Chinese, Thai or Pho, let alone authentic Mexican food. Tex Mex, burgers and fast food chains were pretty much all I had experienced.

But as time went along, I was introduced to pretty much everything, to the previously mentioned cuisines real Jewish deli, bagels and lox (What? An untoasted bagel?) to Kosher, Lebanese and so many more, often times due to department lunches on the Paramount and Universal lots.

I don't think I've eaten any type of ethnic food that I haven't enjoyed. The biggest decision is generally, "What am I in the mood to eat?".

I've been to San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles. I can't say I ever felt like a minority even when surrounded by many people of other races.

The Wal-Mart I was referring to is like walking into Mexico. When I'm with my wife it feels like we're on vacation and she is my tour guide.
