Bottomless soup, salad and breadsticks!!!!

I picked Olive Garden just because their salad is awesome.

Homemade Lasagna, Olive Garden Lasagna, Lasagne at Tony's on the Hill, it's still Lasagne. But their salad is pretty nails. The bread sticks are just OK, Outback still has the best bread of the chains. |
Eh for the midwest, RL isn't bad. Pricey for what it is though. You can find dozens of restaurants superior to OG though with superior versions of the same dishes. What's the point of emdless breadsticks if they taste like crap.

They both suck. Haven't been to either of them in the last 10 years.
|
Oliver Garden isn't bad at all. Their chicken marsala is pretty good.

DL4C is obviously spelling that way on purpose, aping the skinbra style... almost certainly a mult

To quote Mrs. Bowser - "OMG, WTF??? What is WRONG with you people??"
Then she promptly said Red Lobster for the cheddar biscuits, lol. I went Olive Garden for those breadsticks and salad (yeah, I don't get the salad thing either). A HOUSE DIVIDED |

Red Lobster. King and snow crab, pretty hard to **** those up.

This makes me really sad. Either you don't like lasagna that much, or you've never had really good lasagna. Either is sad. :deevee: |

It's not cute. I've had Lasagne at Tony's. You won't find a dozen Italian restaurants better in the nation. Maybe not a half dozen better. Lasagne is lasagne. You can have better sausage, or a higher cailber of ricotta, here and there. But it's not like steak or BBQ where time, place, preparation and secret recipe makes all the difference. It's a baked pasta dish, not a Dutch master painting. |

So deprived and illiterate. Hope you expand your culinary horizons. |

Pasta, sauces, meats, cheeses, and ratios all play a role in a great lasagna. You're clearly not a huge fan of lasagna (that's OK) if you think a lasagna is a lasagna is a lasagna. Quote:
What does this even mean? The question is whether you'd rather have OG or RL. I'd go RL because it's pretty easy to make really good snow or king crab. I've been to RL many a time and had ****ed up shrimp; crab is a safer bet (I prefer crab to lobster, but lobster is relatively safe there, too). OG is pretty dependent on the cooks. Been there way too many times with overcooked or stuck-together pasta. And to the poster that said RL for their stuffed mushrooms: Those are pretty good! OG's stuffed shrooms are pretty tasty, too. |

Another thing that varies wildly in quality compared to lasagne is pizza. Quote:

Seafood varies greatly, yes, especially fresh vs. frozen (pretty much everything but fresh catch at RL is frozen). Crab - snow and king anyway, as referenced in my post - mostly comes from the same region and is mostly (all, I think) frozen. There's a world of difference between a lasagna and steaming some frozen crab. Crab is pretty hard to **** up unless you over-season it or overcooked it. It's simpler and has fewer points of possible failure. I've had frozen snow and king crab in my house from a shitty steamer that was as good as any crab I've had at RL. It just isn't hard. Of course this is all just my opinion, which I would think on a message board would be obvious without specifying. I wasn't demeaning your opinion, stop being so dramatic. |

It's easily a 1/2 dozen times a week you tell someone their cooking or eating choices are 'unacceptable' for some reason or another. I try to be easygoing generally. Today it just struck me particularly wrong. If I was too harsh, I apologize. |

Red Lobster, especially if allowed to carry-out and avoid wall to wall crying children.

I've had a Wendy's resurgence recently. The one near my house was fixed up quite nice, and I've had a few meals there now. Good stuff.

They both suck

if you try the Portobello Ravioli from OG - it is strong enough to entirely reshape your opinion of the restaurant as a whole.
|
Not even close for me. Red Lobster is the winner.
Olive Garden is disgusting... If I want Italian food, I will go to Carrabbas. |
I'm allergic to shellfish and I love OG's Pasta Fajioli I know it's spelled with a g but CP doesn't like that spelling.

That soup is good. If you haven't tried it, the zoopa toscana is super tasty, too. |
FLAVOR FLAV
Red Lobster Deal Cemented ... SIGNATURE MEAL ON THE MENU!!! Flavor Flav and Red Lobster are trying everything to save a sinking ship -- including a new menu addition based on Flav's favorite flavors. The seafood chain announced the launch Monday of Flavor Flav's signature menu item -- a massive combo meal featuring the Public Enemy rapper's go-to Red Lobster dishes. Red Lobster patrons can now order Flavor Flav's Faves ... a feast featuring a Maine lobster tail, snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi, bacon mac and cheese and a choice of side. The order won't be on Red Lobster's printed menus, but diners can just ask their server for the Flavor Flav's Fave meal -- kinda like the famed "secret menu" items at In-N-Out. Seems Flav is determined to keep throwing Red Lobster life preservers as the company goes through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As we reported ... Flav went to RL last month and ordered every single item from the menu, explaining he was just trying to save the restaurant and its famed cheddar bay biscuits. Now, Red Lobster is enlisting Flavor Flav for this new gimmick as it tries to stay afloat -- an all hands on deck situation, for sure! https://imagez.tmz.com/image/e9/4by3...69c9d59_md.jpg https://www.tmz.com/2024/07/01/red-l...ure-menu-meal/ |
I haven’t been to a red lobster in probably 10 years because all the ones closed around me. We recently moved and there’s an Olive Garden up the street and I’ve got to say, hadn’t been to an Olive Garden prior to moving in years either but it wins for me as well.
Their salad and bread sticks seem very fresh and their entrees are good enough for me when dining out. |

I'm sorry but I grew up on Red Lobster and Cheddar Bay Biscuits. Shame what's happened to the company being gutted the way it has. I did go there with the Mrs. a month ago and the biscuits are still amazing and the food was as good as I remembered it, but it was definitely in that Applebee's vibe, where people just didn't care, there was really no garnishments, alot of blank space on the plate where I remember it looking more full, unfortunate. Luckily mine is still open so I intend to go there on my birthday if that's still the case later this month.

We go to Red Lobster two or three times a year. I like it (love those biscuits) but there are so many better places to choose from.
Olive Garden is okay, but just okay. I'm a pretty good cook, and frankly I can make comparable/better Italian food at home. Haven't been to one in years. |
Love the RL garlic shrimp scampi appetizer - have the recipe for the knockoff that I haven't tried yet
|
I don't do Seafood so Olive Garden is the default answer.
With that said, not sure why Olive Garden gets so much hate. They make good food, especially for a chain franchise. About once a month on a lazy night i'll order their Chicken and Gnocchi soup and some breadsticks for the fam. Cheap, fast and delicious. |

It was a great place to work. I made decent money, always had hot female coworkers and lots of drunken after-parties. |
When I was a kid RL was not good food. Edible, but that was about it.
Oddly, the first good RL I ever ate at was here in Phx. OG was never good. Not even before I went to NY/CHI and found out what Italian food was supposed to be like. Damn shame what happened to RL. Should be a crime, imo. |
Tight race.
|
I feel like the Olive Garden breadsticks used to be more flavorful and fresher. Frozen breadsticks of the same variety are better. That alone is enough to keep us from going there anymore outside of a rare last minute craving for cheap Italian.
|
Both of these places suck ass, but if forced I'll go to Red Lobster.
|
That's a blast from the past and judging by the timeline and scenario I made up I was probably inebriated.
Chose Red Lobster. |
