You know, I've been thinking about that a bit lately, and I actually think that there is something to that. Obviously, we all would say that the Super Bowl is the goal, and I'm sure that everyone (for the most part) would still be ecstatic if we won the Super Bowl even after getting up by 10 points in the first quarter and then winning the game 10-7 on a missed, last-second field goal.

But at the same time, there is something inherently satisfying with not only winning the game, but stomping your opponent into the ground. I think that's WHY everyone drools over the Tom Bradys and Peyton Mannings of the world - they have the capability to not only win, but make their opponents look foolish in doing it.

When we watch Alex and Andy do their thing, we really enjoy the wins, but it almost feels like the end of a UFC fight that went five rounds but ended in a tight judges' decision. A win is a win, but an epic uppercut knockout sure would have been more fun.

Anyway, I'm definitely more of a "wins matter than style points" kind of guy, but I acknowledge that those who are sick of HOW the Chiefs play the game right now aren't completely insane.

BossChief 12-22-2016 09:24 PM

Damn. 13 guys that made it as either pro bowlers or pro bowl alternates.

That's gotta be tops in the league, right?

Because we've all seen this shit before. The Chiefs pile up regular season wins and then piss down their leg in the playoffs. We lose games to teams we have no reason losing to (Bucs and Tits) and it costs us at the end of the year. This 2016 team has that feel to a "T".

I can't imagine anyone that is really paying attention to the Chiefs right now has any illusion in their heads that they can make a dent in the playoffs, particularly the way this offense is performing.

Believe me, I'd much rather win ugly than lose pretty, but let's not kid ourselves on what this year's team is. They've had no less than three miracle wins, four if you count the Chargers just laying down in the opener. Like I said, we've all seen this act before multiple times, and I'm not letting myself get my hopes up yet again just to see them bumble it away when it's crunch time yet again.

No, they are not. It's quite painful. Problem is, people just assume that the Chiefs will.. no matter what.. continue down this path in the do or die playoff games ahead. Maybe yes.. maybe no. I'm going to take the cautious wait and see approach.

For the regular season.. being conservative and going 10-4 is hard to really bitch too much over. Painful, yes. Effective? clearly yes.

Come playoff time, they need to not **** around. No more BS. The Patriots and Colts playoff game have GOT to resonate through Andy's mind.

TAKE THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE.

If Andy does the same shit in the playoffs... and they lose?!? That, to me, says a meltdown CP party of defeat seems... appropriate.

Rasputin 12-22-2016 09:54 PM

Alex Smith just isn't that enjoyable to watch he isn't that good but he does enough to get by with the team doing all the heavy lifting.

I believe more times than not Chiefs have won games in spite of Alex Smith.

Also everyone thought Rex Grossman was a shitty quarterback but he got (his defense willed) the Bears to the Super Bowl so anything ANYTHING is possible.

Remember from the fifty anything is possible.

This man knows Chiefs football.

Anywho, I'm just going to chalk this up to, "we tried to get some QB's to come play this stupid game, but most of them said "**** you, I'm going on vacation with the family after the season is over".

Yep; that's what we're going with over here.

That Bears team would have gotten their dicks kicked in in NE. That shit won't work against them or the Steelers

I don't disagree at all with that. They got thumped by the Colts after they spotted them 7 from an opening kick return for a touchdown.

GloryDayz 12-22-2016 10:20 PM

I'll DVR it so I don't have to watch Alex embarrass the uniform. If he gets in..

Actually I'm not sure it's worth using up space on the DVR, I'm down to 60% free space.

Happens to even good teams sometimes. And as you said, "might have" blown it. If we win both and the Raiders lose one we still get 2nd seed, not out of the question by any means. The Raiders didn't play very well last week either.

I'll agree that we have at least two games left, so the "the season isn't over" part is spot-on. Who knows, we'll prolly even go to the playoffs after those two games.

I think most of us know that with Alex behind the wheel and Andy calling the shots, it might be a very short ride if of D and special teams don't score a lot.

But many of us hope we're wrong and we win the SB.

Edit: And no, nobody's going to blow their brains out.

According to the NYT playoff simulator we have a 98% chance of making it to the playoffs right now. I'd say that is pretty good.

Some of the people here seem to really hate seeing Alex Smith succeed, maybe because they don't want to be proven wrong, or because they just hate Smith that much. The "blow their brains out" was obviously (and intentionally) hyperbole, but I believe there are plenty of people here that wouldn't be happy. The more we win and the more successful we are the more angry they seem to get.

He was a fumble away from going there with the 49ers. It is certainly possible that Alex Smith can win a SB. I think the Vegas odds are 8-1 right now. 8-1 is a lot more than 0, my friend.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but my opinion is based on what I've seen since he got here. Remember, I was fine with bringing him in, but what I've seen makes me realize it's time to cut our losses and go on a very public search for an upgrade.

And what I fear more is that people think our wins come from him being good instead of despite him pretty-much being the anti-Brady. And I don't fear him succeeding, I'd love to see him turn around, but I fear one or two decent plays being billed as him being a great QB.

At best he was a great game manager, but this year has proven that he's not a lot of that anymore either.

I disagree with that too. When Reid has opened to offense up the last several weeks he has made some good long throws and looked good. It is not Smith taking the foot off the gas, it is Reid.

Maybe he should yell "KILL KILL KILL" or "Omaha Omaha" like other QBs and option to a play 7-10 times a game. You know, that'll showcase the laser arm he has. He prolly should on every play in the 2nd half that's asking Ware to blow a hole open in the B gap. And for sure he should when Andy's rung up another bubble screen. And next time they fake the end-around, maybe he should actually do the end-around.

You know, take charge...

Completely illegitimate then, completely illegitimate now. And in any event, the game itself is now as meaningless as being asked to come and be a part of it. It's an in-house blow job with no "happy ending" for the fans.

You think Reid would be ok with that? And those fake end-arounds and the bubble screens may be to set up future match ups. You can't just take each play individually, there is a bigger picture. Chess, not checkers.

Who cares what Andy thinks? Nothing has been able to bench Alex, sans being concussed, so Andy can shove it up his ass.

The bolded part reminds me of this scene:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dzaL8wiSjnM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And I don't think they're setting-up anything, that's just an excuse for not ever actually running the play.

Let's hope Andy just read this and is angered into action and actually tries it.

So he's just been holding back on the "real" plays on offense, is that it? Letting lesser teams come in here and beat us because he would rather be a road wild card team and unleash that offensive fury and firepower on a team like the Texans than have a bye and a home playoff game?

I want Smith to succeed. I really, really do. I don't like admitting that the Chief's QB has real limitations that they seemingly can't overcome when they need it the most and get them over the hump. By all accounts, Alex is a great ****ing guy and I hate to feel like he just doesn't have it in him to ever win a championship here. I hope he comes out the next two weeks, lights it up, and carries that all the way through the playoffs. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Yep, that's the rub. Year 4 in this offense with legitimately more weapons than have ever been at his disposal, and maybe the worst performance of the four years here to date. It's maddening.

Well said, and I agree. Let's hope Andy gives him a kick in the pants, tells him to take off the diapers, and then takes Sunday off so Alex doesn't have Andy standing between himself and an excuse of poor coaching and play-calling by Andy.

Even worse this season because the Chiefs can't run the ball. So, more of the load is falling on Smith's shoulders and he's not that type of QB.

Since you asked, yes. Yes there are.

This game should have been sold out before the season ever started. Instead, you can likely walk right up to the box office Sunday night and sit wherever you want.

To be fair, it's Christmas.

But why do that when you can go to NFL Ticket Exchange or Stub Hub and get them cheaper than face.

Houston has played in 3 whole games. Is he getting there on rep alone?

Alex leads the league in mediocrity.

you expecting a nuclear strike?

Rausch 12-23-2016 09:54 AM

Colquitt (MVP) is the best punter in the league.

No ****ing respect...

I'm dumb. I thought we were referring to the playoff game (that probably won't happen).

You think Reid would be ok with that? And those fake end-arounds and the bubble screens may be to set up future match ups. You can't just take each play individually, there is a bigger picture. Chess, not checkers.

Just wait until he opens up the playbook! That's when the offense will really start clicking!

LMAO

Now that would make more sense. I hope I am wrong but I don't see us getting the 2 seed if the offense and defense keep doing what they are doing.

Christmas night.

If it were Christmas Day, sure. But honestly no excuses for a game that has division and HFA implications against our biggest rival to still have a LOT of seats available.

Nice. A Christmas afternoon sellout for two teams with nothing to play for.

Houston is obviously elite whenever he plays. It's really not ridiculous for him to get the nod.
