Bowman is still playing at a high level, but he's not much better than Ray Ray Armstrong in run support, and Armstrong and Foster are the future. With the 49ers 0-5 they are looking to the future and starting to give their younger players playing time.

As of last week the 49ers were 8th in run defense, and those numbers were skewed by Marlon Mack consistently getting outside of containment (Armistead not setting the edge and Tartt getting caught inside). Bowman will help any team on the field.

BTW, just because a player has many years in the league, doesn't mean he's a leader in the lockerroom. I have never heard Bowman being a defensive leader. He just plays at a high level.
