And I will end my thoughts about Phillip with this. The day he says im done than i will support what ever life he chooses. But until then, i will have all the faith in the world that he will be successful because that is what i believe based on his character. So if you feel i cant handle the truth so be it.

Hell, go back to training camp.
Is Gaines better than Devante Bausby? At this point it's looking like a big ol "no" |

Who gives a **** if he is a nice guy? He sucks at football. My waiter tonight was a nice guy. Can't play corner, but a nice guy. Let Gaines be a nice guy waiting tables. Just get him off my team. Guy ****ing sucks shit through a tube.
|
Gaines is a magnet for game deciding **** ups. He’s the worst corner I’ve seen in a long time.
|
Holy shit. A Tiger/Sandy/Mav for the worst ****ing defensive back in football.
Now I've seen it all. |

But the rest of us are just being objective. And he objectively is not a good player right now and has been a HUGE liability for the Chiefs. Maybe you're right and he'll go on to be an All Pro CB, but there is not a talent evaluator on planet earth aside from yourself that thinks he looks like someone who will eventually be elite. Right now he sucks. I don't know that I've ever seen a player that has been as consistently and comically inept as Gaines. Stop reading this thread if you don't want your feelings hurt. If he plays another down this year, it's only gonna get worse. |
A good test would be when we cut him if any other team would touch him with a ten foot pole.

Im over trashing Gaines.
At this point i just feel bad for him. Maybe he shouldn't be playing in a largely man coverage scheme. |

This person is someone like his mom, his aunt, brother in law, etc. |
Gaines needs a hobby, non-football related.
|
Can you even blame Gaines anymore? Its been so apparent for so long what his talent level is. Blame the ****wit who keeps putting him on the field.
|
We need to put Mitchell back on the field. He'll get beat and draw a flag from time to time but he is absolutely a better option than Gaines.
It should be Peters at LCB, Mitchell at RCB, and Nelson in the slot with Acker first off the bench. Gaines can play garbage time snaps and special teams. |

It's pretty apparent that every team in the NFL knows to throw it up for grabs when you get a 1v1 with any Chiefs DB not named Peters. Nelson has proven at this point that he's not durable. Good player, can't stay healthy. Houston is good but not great. He doesn't take over games anymore. Parker has been almost invisible this season. He doesn't LOOK like he's lost a step to me, but he hasn't been an impact player. Hali is done. Ford looks like another Jerry Attouchu....a broke dick with fantastic athleticism. Bailey is maxed out. He only stands to get worse. He never made that "leap" and has been largely the same guy for the last 3 seasons. Logan seems aight enough, but not a difference maker, much like Bailey. Johnson sadly looks like he lost 5 steps. I love me some Dirty Dan, but he's just a role player. We need Mahomes to really pan out, because this defense won't be top 10 for awhile. |

This team just has a much better, and faster, feel with Ragland and KPL at ILB. |

Maybe this just isn't the right scheme for Gaines. I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but he's getting wrecked out there. No one wants to see that. Like i said, im over bashing the guy. At this point i just hope he can go somewhere and excel, maybe a scheme that doesn't expose their corners as often as the Chiefs do. |

No one here is arguing that Gaines is a bad person. We're saying he's a really ****ing bad football player.

Either way, DJ hasn't impressed either. The guy's made like four big plays this entire season. At least the young guys can learn and get better. It's only downhill for DJ. |
At this point Gaines best chance might be converting to safety.
|
They're going to have rebuild almost this entire defense. Thank God we'll have some money to work with this offseason.

His best chance is to go a team that plays a lot of zone. Maybe he'd be better in a "tampa-2" scheme? Idk. But his lack of ball skills is absolutely killing him here. |
Quote:
He weighs like 45 pounds. He couldn't play safety at a highschool level, let alone the NFL. |

I am shocked this team can't find someone better on the street than this guy. Unbelievable how bad he is.

Gaines is a bad last name to have as a defensive back.
I'd stay away from guys with the last name "Conversion" and "Holding" as well. but, I'm not a scout. |

I've never seen a defensive back in the NFL with worse ball skills than Gaines. He has absolutely no idea how to track a ball that is in the air.
Edit: I'm not sure I've seen a player at his position with worse ball skills at any level of football above high school. It really is astonishing how poorly he adjusts to the ball. |
How useful would Revis be and what would it cost to rent him for three months?

The real problem is: with Berry missing, our defense is absolutely devoid of talent. Peters included.

He would be good at football camps to demonstrate what not to do.

edit: Looked it up, and he wanted to give it a go. I am genuinely curious how big a difference there is between old Revis and current Gaines. |
Gaines played a good game until he slipped on OT. He is definitely better on the outside than the inside. I remember arguing that when he was the nickel. I feel sorry for him. He just had bad luck on that play.

At this point I'm convinced he's got the "Bartee Syndrome." Above average talent but no ability to make a play on the ball. In important situations you can just lob it up and expect the WR to make the catch... |
