I went back and watched 'The Entire History of You' just for the **** of it. God damn that episode is a masterpiece. Even on a re-watch it still managed to make me sick to my stomach like it did the first time.

It was a great episode. I haven't rewatched a single one, not for any reason in particular. Maybe thought the majority were good with a single viewing.

Iconic 06-08-2019 10:32 PM

Caught up on season 5. As underwhelming as the the second and third episodes were the first made up for it. Wow. First one was all kinds of new levels of ****ed up

It wasn't very uplifting for the AI running those sims. After watching the episode, do you not wonder if the sims were sentient?

I liked the last episode but it didn't really feel black mirror. I'm actually really surprised they didn't go much darker toward the end. The second episode might just be one of the worst in the series

Discuss Thrower 06-09-2019 01:09 PM

Supposedly the three episodes of S5 are ordered according to an algorithm that builds off your watch history. So what's E1 to you is E3 to five different people.

Anyway, I watched Striking Vipers and Smithereens. Both were good but I have a feeling people are going to be butthurt with the former.

I just didn't get smithereens. I thought the reveal fell completely flat which is kind of a signature black mirror move.

vailpass 06-09-2019 01:37 PM

The Miley Cyrus one is dumb af.

chiefzilla1501 06-09-2019 07:16 PM

black mirror has evolved because there are so many shows these days focused on a dystopian tech society. We'll probably see more positivity. More focus on the storytelling than the twist. Which may work because Charlie Brooker is a pretty terrific storyteller.

MTG#10 06-12-2019 06:48 PM

Good God this season is trash. All 3 episodes were pure garbage...worst three by far.

:(

Oh bummer. I've only seen the Miley one which, near as I could tell, had nothing other than Miley Cyrus being in it. Just stupid bad. Was hoping the others were better.

Smithereens is more like an extended episode of a cop drama.

Striking Vipers is.. well it's like an intentional gender inverted rehash of San Junipero. Kind of.

Mecca 06-13-2019 02:48 PM

If you watch Striking Vipers with the idea in your head that it is Falcon...its really amusing.

SAGA45 06-14-2019 03:31 AM

Horrible season

Rausch 06-14-2019 07:22 AM

Got 20 minutes into the first ep and wanted to go to sleep when it went woke...

listopencil 06-14-2019 07:49 AM

I feel like Striking Vipers should have been one of the "ok" episodes of a much longer season with many much better episodes. I've only seen small clips of the Miley Cyrus one and I already feel like it's a stupid rehash of the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana back story that Miley wants to tell everyone over and over again. Is the other episode any good?

It had kind of a nice slow burn going on at first but it never really picked up into anything above average.

WhiteWhale 06-14-2019 08:30 AM

I'm not falling for it again.

I'm intrigued by high concept shit like this, but I'll be damned if every season isn't 1 good episode and a bunch of snore inducing sleep aids.

When you have to preface with shit like "don't start with this episode or this one...Or this one...Or this one....Or this one..." in a series with limited content....That's not a good thing folks.

Because it's an anthology series where one episode (largely) has no relationship to other ones.

This is GREAT news!

That said, I thought the writer said he wouldnt do anymore as he had become insanely scared of the bad roads technology was taking?

I've watched the first 4 out of 5.

No terrible ones yet, but I don't know if there's a great one either. Beyond the Sea was probably the best.

listopencil 06-18-2023 10:55 AM

Started watching the first episode and lost interest half way through.

Stryker 06-18-2023 06:46 PM

The wife has been watching this and she told me I should check it out - she said like Twilight Zone but really ****ed up! I have some time off in a few weeks so will finish up Jack Ryan and check this out next. :thumb:

crayzkirk 06-19-2023 07:08 AM

I've been a fan of this show and Love, Death and Robots. The first episode was pretty uneven and the inclusion of Selma Hayek was surprising. One thing that I will agree with is that AI will replace actors in the very near future.

Netflix has gone from $8 to $16 per month. Just not worth it now.

That's on Netflix though..every other stream service is cheaper than that one. Netflix charges extra for more streams at the same time, extra for 4k other platforms don't do that..

That's a Netflix problem.

That's a Netflix problem.

Plus the amount of new content, at least what I can find easily, is very small. I'm looking to cut the cable and my $260 bill per month. Was concerned about having to buy a specific package for the Royals however not really concerned as I enjoy the game more when I listen on the radio and can get things done.

Getting close to retirement and deciding that I really don't want to spend my days sitting in front of the idiot box.

Gotta power through it. Payoff is pretty good and changes how you’re looking at the first half.

It’s a little cheekier than the typical black mirror episode. Not one of the top 5 episodes but pretty compelling

OK. The second half did pick up and I enjoyed it well enough. Also I will now refer to the troublesome desktop at work as the com-puta.

A few posts later I also recommended that people NOT start with that episode. It’s the consensus among fans of the show to recommend newbies start somewhere other than S1E1. It’s a shame that they don’t just reorder the show because a lot of people really dislike the first episode.

Yeah, guess maybe i shoulda read the thread instead of only the last few posts.

Because that was definitely man ****ing pig.

Yeah, the first episode was pretty disturbing. They can be rather uneven; I did enjoy the Star Trek based one. It's a lot later in the series.

Can’t even begin to tell you how many people I’ve heard stopped watching black mirror because of the pig episode. Netflix needs to resort their season 1 so this doesn’t pop up first.

It's not like they actually show anything; more like the old days where they let your imagination do the work of the special effects team.

I get that. I’ve known several people who still couldn’t get past that episode purely for that reason. Just the thought of it was too much. I think they would’ve tolerated it if they started with a different episode first

Hang the DJ and The Entire History of You. Probably somewhere in my top 10 of BM episodes.

On another note, season six was ****ing terrible. Made us wait that long for a steaming pile of mediocrity. There really is not jack shit in good TV anymore outside of Severance and House of Dragons with Netflix pretty much phoning in the past BM season.

kay_may 07-07-2023 09:08 AM

Previous season was much better
