I was going to say if someone gave him 15 grand for a shoe deal they’re bad at business

That's a nice fantasy. Thamel's sources tell him this involves elite programs paying to get players and stay at the top.

If Duke and UNC and Kentucky are paying to get players, so is ku.

All these guys get paid. I actually don't have a problem with it. Just don't pretend ku is above the fray.

You don't get ***** or Top 100 players unless you're kicking something to the families.

The question really isn't whether or not KU/UK/Duke/UNC/every other NCAA team cheats, it's more about who is hiding it the best.

dirk digler 02-23-2018 09:31 AM

All these coaches will deny deny deny. I still can't believe NC and Roy Williams got away with what they did.

Oh wait yes I can because the NCAA is a joke.

Sassy Squatch 02-23-2018 09:33 AM

Based on Friday's report, and documents obtained therein, schools that could potentially face NCAA repercussions include: Alabama, Clemson, Creighton, Duke, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, USC, Utah, Villanova, Virginia, Washington and Wichita State.

The deal at UNC was pretty ridiculous.

Couch-Potato 02-23-2018 09:38 AM

A few grand here and there is nothing. How much did the FBI spend on this investigation? Embarrassing that they didn't turn up more IMO.

"Sure they were all taking fake classes but so were the regular students so it wasn't an extra benefit to athletes."

Elijah Johnson was listed as well, but I have to expect this was after he left KU, which I think was in 2013

BigRedChief 02-23-2018 12:07 PM

Names of the schools and players are coming out. 20 division 1 schools. Duke, Kentucky Michigan State etc. even WSU but, I don’t see KU’s name yet.

The documents tie some of the biggest names and programs in the sport to activity that appears to violate the NCAA’s amateurism rules. This could end up casting a pall over the NCAA tournament because of eligibility issues. (NCAA officials declined a request for comment.) There’s potential impermissible benefits and preferential treatment for players and families of players at Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, USC, Alabama and a host of other schools. The documents link some of the sport’s biggest current stars – Michigan State’s*Miles Bridges, Alabama’s Collin Sexton and Duke’s Wendell Carter – to specific potential extra benefits for either the athletes or their family members. The amounts tied to players in the case range from basic meals to tens of thousands of dollars.

This literally happens everywhere. I took a class called STRESS MANAGEMENT at Iowa. It was a total sham class. Everyone knew it. I only heard about it because I worked for the school at the fieldhouse. I knew how easy it was. 70% of the players were bball, football and womens basketball players. Jeff Horner (iowa football player) and Antwan Allen (iowa football player) were in the class if I remember right. We literally did nothing and got an A.

UNC basically just had easy classes, on purpose, so their athletes could get an easy A. There are tons of classes EVERYWHERE like that.

Actually, wasn't Van Vleet on the list of players who received compensation?

That was one sweet deal they got. $1,000 for a player who ends up like Van Vleet is a damn good investment!

Kiimo 02-23-2018 04:25 PM

KU is in the clear so far. EJ was after he graduated and Apples got a loan before Josh ever committed to KU. That could be a loan for any of the players on her AAU team, of which there are many. The clearinghouse cleared JJ and therefore everything before that is their responsibility.

I doubt schools like Duke, UNC, Kansas and Kentucky have to pay kids $100,000 to come to school. I think you'll find that while kids at all schools are taking some loans from agents & shoe companies, the coaches at blue bloods aren't facilitating these payments. And any payments to kids at those schools appear to be much more minor compared to the Auburns, Mississippi State, Arizona's of the world who are actually paying players a fee to come play for them.

TambaBerry 02-23-2018 09:44 PM

Looks like Sean Miller is on tape saying he will pay Ayton money to come there

I guess a school could offer a women's basketball player the same amount, don't see that happening.

And of course, expect the wannabes, small time programs to push for a socialist, salary cap with revenue sharing.

Players are on 2 year contracts and they don't have to sit out a year to switch school. Unless you get hit with the restricted free agent tag.

Title IX isn't that easily avoided.

Sean Miller is done. I am surprised he hasn't been fired yet.
