I haven't followed the Raiders very much. I'm assuming Mack is about to get paid big bucks? Is he on his rookie deal still?

SuperBowl4 08-08-2018 12:53 PM

JG will take MD's money for a few years then retire for good.

jdubya 08-08-2018 02:08 PM

Live here locally so I get tons of raider news. Sounds like their camp is going great and LT Miller is further along than they could even hope. Penn is injured and being asked to restructure his contract. Not hearing any trade rumors regarding Mack but who knows? He still has a year left on his contract.

The Franchise 08-08-2018 02:09 PM

Apparently Martavis Bryant can't figure out the playbook and Gruden isn't happy.

Yes, he's got around $13.8 million for his 5th year option. Wants long term deal. Neither he, nor the Raiders, have put anything out there that indicates anything other than they currently have an impasse about either term, guaranteed money, or average/year. It doesn't help that the other best young defender in the NFL, Donald, is also up for an extension, and his 5th year option is only $6 million, and is reportedly asking for $25 million a year.

God I love what Gruden's doing to that franchise. It was a stupid hire from the start but even I never could've fathomed just how stupid it will turn out to be.

This is beautiful.

I mean, it may work out. But ****, the guy just seems stuck in 04.

How did they think that would be a good hire?

Defensive players are just refusing to acknowledge the 'we are not going to pay you like a quarterback' thing.

If Donald or Mack would sign for a percentage kicker over what Von Miller signed for, I'm betting the deals get done. I just don't feel like they're willing to do that. They're hell-bent on re-setting the market for elite defensive players and getting them paid like they're a quarterback.

It's not gonna happen, lads. If they'd sign a deal with something like $75 million in guarantees and maybe $82 million over the first 4 years of the deal (who really gives a crap about the last year or two; fake money), I bet they'd get their contract done.

But when the Rams can tag Donald three times for a total of $55 million, just exactly how does he think he's gonna get them to pay him $25 million/season? Even Mack's 3 time franchise figure is 'only' $67 million. They're barking for money that no sane franchise would give them.

I'd be just as pleased to see the Raiders capitulate to Mack as I would see them trade him. Go ahead and extend a guy at $23 million/season through his age 31 season. See how that works out for you. Or hell, go ahead and trade him out of the division - I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him gone either. Personally, I think Mack's put them in a lose/lose situation here.

As for Donald - whatev; not my division, don't care. He can decide to retire if he wants but it's pretty silly to me that the Rams have him under team control for $55 million if they want over the three years after this one and he's effectively asking them to 'gift' him another $20 million. You don't like the rules - talk to your player rep. Maybe next time you guys won't get walloped in the CBA quite so badly.

What was it? 10 years since the Callahan Super Bowl and no playoffs? Something like that?

Then they finally find a decent QB and some talent here and there... and POOF! It's all gone because they went all in on Gruden.

God, it might be another 10 years before they make the playoffs again.

The only trade rumors about Mack are those started by bored sportswriters. He is still on his rookie deal and we can franchise tag his butt for two years.

We cut the Italian Cannon because we signed the Florida duo as punter/kicker/holder. The previous holder was King who held for the lefty kickers Giorgio and Jano. That trio has departed so it makes no sense to keep the average Giorgio around. We have a righty holder and kicker now.

I agree with all of this, and Mack will likely report at least in time for week 1. I don't think the Raiders will pay him more than $20-21 million a year, which is still a huge chunk of change, and they have him for the next three years minimum regardless of what he wants to do.

We also signed another right footed veteran kicker who's been pretty decent in Mike Nugent.

I think the desperation of Chiefs fan for Gruden to fail is pretty damn funny. I guess some of you are old enough to remember the whippings the Raiders put on KC while he was coach?

That is exactly the problem for the Raiders. McKenzie was doing a really good job of building that squad with very reasonable contracts. And with Gruden at least having his hands in the personnel decisions, that is likely to get screwed up.

This was a classic Al Davis bone-head play.

Jon Gruden showing footage from the 1970s in his film sessions with the players LMAO

https://sports.yahoo.com/jared-cook-...050514179.html

Quote:

According to Raiders tight end Jared Cook, the old-fashioned way is exactly how things are being done so far in training camp.

“He’s bringing out film from like 1976 when you ain’t even think they had film,” Cook told the Las Vegas-Review Journal’s Michael Gehlken. “Grainy film where you can barely see the players.”

Apparently Gruden’s showing players the origin of his schemes, Gehlken reports.

He’s also showing players that he’s much older than them and doesn’t seem concerned with connecting on their level. At least when it comes to technology.

Maybe there is something to be gleaned from watching 40-year-old film, but hopefully for Gruden, he has a bank of modern schemes to lean on as well

Had to check the link to see who this "All Pro" was. oh that idiot punter. I think they did good moving on from him. If your going to get unsportsmanlike penalties get it for knocking the shit out of someone, not by dancing over a punt.

Besides, why not? There is always something to learn from. And football is cyclical. Hell, the spread formation was around in the 1910s if you read some old newspaper articles.

I wouldn’t call him Switzer because he does deserve credit for the faiders brief turnaround in the late 90’s that lead up to their embarrassment of a super bowl appearance. IMO there’s stronger evidence that the game has passed him by as his fizzling out with the bucs suggests. Gruden has been a good self promoter over the years and chokelands incompetent management fell for it.

It really shows the incompetence of the personnel departments in the league.

You know they’re picking up his ass so they can push the veteran narrative and not actually have to do any, you know, work. On the backup QB anyway.

I still can’t believe someone was stupid enough to give a coach who hasn’t coached in almost a DECADE, a 10 year contract. Then I remember... Faders. Lmao!

To their credit it's going to take Chucky a year or two just to catch up with the game. At least they won't fire him after year two when knowing what to expect.
