I’m really holding out hope that Berry is the equalizer here. I mean, we were super down on this defense after preseason last year too (Berry was out then as well) and we were simply a different team with him in there that first half against NE. Dude is just a general out there when he’s in the game.

If Berry is healthy he’s one of those rare players that can elevate the play of those around him both directly and indirectly. If he’s not healthy well...we’re ****ed.

O.city 08-27-2018 10:40 AM

Eh, New England moved up and down the field on them in the first half, the Chiefs got lucky to have a few key 4th dow stops.

He would help if he's 100%, but it seems unlikely.

O.city 08-27-2018 10:42 AM

The Chiefs haven't been able to develop anyone at the corner position. They need a young late round pick or UDFA or something to actually be good for a change.

RunKC 08-27-2018 10:42 AM

Eric Murray was a corner in college, and a good one.

Why not play him there?

O.city 08-27-2018 10:43 AM

I don't know that he has the speed to do it in the NFL? Maybe?

BigBeauford 08-27-2018 11:00 AM

Man our local sports media is so soft. We should have been given some kind of answer on the Peters trade.

I think they did short of calling him a jerk. He simply became too much of a pain in the rear. So many on this site seem dumbfounded that a player of his caliber could be sent packing just because he became unbearable to deal with. Everybody seems to forget that the Hall of Fame just put in two guys (TO & Moss) that put up amazing numbers and elevated teams with their play for a while, but eventually wore out their welcomes. This is not new, the baggage became just too much. Just because the Chiefs have not run his name through the mud does not mean it is not fairly clear why they moved on from him. It was documented before they picked him. It was documented while he was here.

That one pro is going to be looking pretty good here in a few weeks.

The Peters trade is difficult for fans, which is understandable. As I've stated countless times, the move made this offseason were not for the 2018 season, but two years from now. They got something for Peters before he walked. Fine. Does that suck? Yeah. But while we fans are not really into transitional years, that's what 2018 is. Get ready for shootouts. We have an offense what can do its part, but yeah the defense has some real holes.

Next year we will have a first round pick, probably in the 15-25 selection range. We also will get another 2nd rounder for Peters. Get ready for some fatties and cornerbacks!

Anyone who thinks this team is making a deep run into the playoffs this year is just setting themselves up for disappointment. Now that doesn't mean I don't think they can win the division or even make the playoffs as a wildcard - in fact I expect them in the playoffs, which would be an amazing season for our new young QB.

That is what seems to be missing from many of these "discussions". If we had not traded Peters this off season we would have been letting him walk. Should we have gotten more for him? Maybe. But the realistic alternative was getting nothing after this season. And who knows what we may have gotten from him on the field this season.

O.city 08-27-2018 11:38 AM

I don't care if my CB isn't a great or willing tackler if he's taking the ball away.

You don't think the Chiefs would have received a comp pick for Peters?

O.city 08-27-2018 11:40 AM

They would have had him for this year and next year if they picked up his 5th year option.

Chiefs Fan wants a corner who can tackle. Fortunately for them, that's exactly what we have now, because they sure as hell aren't covering or creating turnovers. The Bears game was all about corners who tackle.

O.city 08-27-2018 11:41 AM

Yeah, we got guys that are sure tacklers now.

NJChiefsFan 08-27-2018 11:43 AM

Wouldn't breaking up passes and covering people be pros?

I noticed you didn't use the word "tackle" in there, so that would be a hard no.

Then put that in the con list. Doesn't change the fact that he covered routes and defended balls, even beyond intercepting them, well.

Well, yeah, if you like a defense that can stop the pass in a passing league.

We want tacklers, though.

Lol It’s hilarious how quickly Chiefs fans turned on Peters.

The guy was a headcase and probably not good for the locker room in the end, but anybody saying that he wasn’t great on the field is a fool. I couldn’t care less about tackling.

I always loved Peters. Always will. So yes, the tackling didn’t bother me. When he needed to make one (4th down against LAC) he did. He did do some things that made me mad like the play vs Buffalo and Clay where he had an easy INT but missed it for whatever odd reason.

Kiimo 08-27-2018 04:10 PM

Peters was great but I'm thinking about those stats that he didn't actually correlate to wins.

I don't care about the anthem and frankly I don't care about the insubordination. I do, however, care about the tackling.

Peters (by far) created more turnovers than any player at S or CB since he was drafted. By a WIDE margin.

He also gave up when beaten, wouldn't tackle, and was "an issue" in the locker room.

Grade that out however you want...

I do care about the anthem but this thread isn't the place.

If he disagreed with me on that stance I could (and did) live with that. I didn't want him traded.

Reid/Veach did...

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 09-16-2018 12:31 PM

Fire Veach

Pablo 09-16-2018 01:13 PM

Peters might be better than Nelson. Maybe.

Pitt Gorilla 09-16-2018 01:15 PM

Veach is terrible.

Not one full-time starter out of this last draft, on a defense that is absolutely terrible.

I want to give Veach the benefit of the doubt but dang, that's brutal...

Not true.

Nnandi has been fantastic. Aside from that though....yikes.
