Peterson would be awesome, don’t get me wrong. But the defense’s biggest issues can’t be fixed by him. They’ve gotta adjust the scheme. Simplify. Something to keep the players from thinking so much out there.

Some of you need to stop thinking in terms of "completely fixing the defense." That's not going to happen this year. That What we need for the remainder of this year is the defense to just be mediocre....like holding teams to 25 points. That is something 1 or 2 players and scheme changes can go a long way to doing. The offense can handle the rest. If what this guy is saying is true, our already exciting year could possibly get much more exciting.

The problem with trading for someone is there is no guarantee they won't turn into cancer aids once they are in this scheme. Gotta kill the head to fix the problem and I don't know if that can be done mid-stream.

If everyone recalls there was grumblings this offseason that sutton was going to step down and retire. They fizzled out pretty quick and obviously that wasn't the case, But with this record setting defense and pressure starting to mount I could see AR and the higher ups start making a nudge to grandpa sutton that it is time for a change and to step down. Rather than being fired, so sutton saves a little face and AR does right by his guy rather than fire them. Possible train of thought within the organization.

Retiring in the middle of the season is ****ing embarrassing.

I think it would be more of a forced retirement, sutton is to old to get another job, the pressure is mounting, and AR would like to save some face rather than just come out and kick him to the curb. But again that is all if these rumors are true this is how I would see it going down.
Not to mention we all know the bengals are going to slice up this defense, but if they slice it up AND we loose 2 games in a row the backlash from fans and media is going to be absolutely harsh and veech will then be forced to act. I'm sure they already have plans and routes they want to take this but if we loose again in a shoot out and this defense continues it's historically bad play then i think their hands will be tied. |

If we lose to the Bengals because of the defense again.....Veach literally has no other option but to fire Sutton in the middle of the season. We're putting up video game numbers on offense and losing games? **** that. Get out, Sutton.

The tweet in the OP is from Nick Athan so take it with a huge grain of salt.

it's difficult to imagine mid-season D Coordinator change - I guess it's possible, I'd say it's more about additional players, not a D coach change. JMO

@RapSheet: #AZCardinals President Michael Bidwill told me that trading star CB Patrick Peterson is “not happening.” ... But in this story, I detail other changes that could happen after tonight’s #AZCardinals-#Broncos game. My story on the possible impact: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...ficant-fallout

A shut down CB by the trade deadline would be very very very nice.
|
I have never been to happy to hear about Sorenson getting on the field.
|
A starting safety trio of Berry, Lucas, and Sorensen would be pretty salty IMO.
The problem is, even if Berry does play, how long until he's back out? |

They are keeping the picks. This season will end in another playoff loss by the defense with Sutton manning the sinking ship.

My best guess is they know they aren't changing the DC this season so the plan may be to:
1) Fire/retire Sutton after the season 2) Hire someone better 3) Attack the strong defensive FA class with a good chunk of open cap room 4) Use their litany of picks on whatever needs may still exist It sucks because it might mean essentially punting on their 2018 SB chances, but it might be the best plan for the future. |
