If you've read Joseph Campbell you could argue that every movie ever made has the same plot, or a derivation thereof.

Hard to really say on this one without seeing whether Star Wars somehow manages to stick the landing in December, but for me episodes 1-3 basically hand the prize to Marvel, without even looking at 7 or 8.

What could have been...

I just don't know what to do here, lol. I've been a Star Wars nut since I was 7, but the MCU brought all my nerdy comic book favorites to life. The SW originals are immortalized, the prequels were....ok (minus AotC), but the latest two thirds of the trilogy have been just ok and gawdawful respectfully. Rogue One knocked it out of the park, though. And Solo was very good. The MCU, however, has been nails minus Iron Man 2 and 3, and Thor: The Dark World. Infinity War and Endgame are just straight phenomenal.

Completely stumped here.

While I understand your conundrum, you should embrace the cinematic masterpiece that put you on the road to begin with.

MarkDavis'Haircut 04-28-2019 05:22 PM

The Last Jedi alone disqualifies Star Wars.

Sweet Daddy Hate 04-28-2019 05:24 PM

I wouldn't mind if SW lost to Bond or even something else that might be considered timeless, but outside of the X-Men and Deadpool, most of their stuff is shit.

DaFace 04-29-2019 02:59 PM

Heh...I'd gotten distracted and almost forgot that the deadline was today. So without further ado, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially the 2019 CP Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time!

Kind of crazy that it beat Star Wars, Bond, and Indy by a combined total of only 11 votes. If I was really motivated, it'd be interesting to see what percentage of people voted for MCU all three times. I suspect it's a core group of huge fans that helped drive it forward through the final three rounds, but then again, Endgame did just break about every record possible this past weekend, so it's clearly got a following.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who participated. This was a fun way to pass the time for a few weeks!

Probably right in the end.

Star Wars is the Raiders. They only have the far past to be proud of. Rogue One was their trip to the SB in the early 2000's.

Marvel is the Pats. ****ing good every time out even if they cheat.

Easy 6 04-29-2019 05:08 PM

A travesty

MCU has some genuinely great movies, Winter Soldier is a top 3 all time comic movie in my book... but none of them broke any new ground

Alien threatens to wipe out humanity, our heroes swing into action and save the day... the end

Rain Man 04-29-2019 06:59 PM

Maybe I should watch one of the Marvel movies to check them out.

Well friend, if you didn't like that, then you might want to Wiki a few story lines before deciding to spend valuable time with any more MCU.

Deadpool is NOT part of the MCU, just for the record (nor are any of the X-Men movies). It's technically owned by Disney now that they purchased most of FOX, and it's not out of the question that they could try and mash them together somehow in the future, but they're not currently part of the same universe. Completely different production teams.

We are talking about Marvel, right? Anyway, what do they have? The Hulk? Thor? Capt. America? Robert Downey Jr.? Fantastic Four???

Those movies suck! That's not even the GOOD comic superheroes. That's the B-list all day long!

Seriously CP???

You suck. badly.

jjchieffan 04-29-2019 09:49 PM

Man, what an epic battle. These 2 franchises absolutely deserved to be in the final. When it came down to it, I knew that I was going to be happy with the winner either way it ended.

007 04-29-2019 09:50 PM

Eh, don't get me wrong. I like the MCU movies, I just don't think it was a fair competition in the way I view what a movie franchise is. Avengers is a franchise, Thor is a franchise, Spiderman is a franchise. MCU is the entire universe. It really should have just been Avengers in the entire contest. That said, I'm sure everyone probably would have voted the same way because most people here probably view Avengers as full MCU anyway.

It's okay to not do comic movies worth a ****. They're just comic movies. I'm sure you have better taste in other areas.

Even as bad as the last couple were I would've voted for the Dirty Harry franchise over either of these two. LMAO

Completely missed voting in this one. Wouldn't have mattered, as Marvel would have just won by 1 instead of 2.

tmax63 05-03-2019 08:52 AM

I guess we are officially "old farts". I'd bet a lot of the votes for MCU weren't even born when Star Wars was starting. They don't know what they missed. Like when the only worry with sex was pregnancy, people socialized face to face and we didn't even know what a burkini was.

Reynolds was smart to include the extra characters in The last film. The guy is great, but doses man, doses.

Usually a sign that the material is running thin. We all remember Blade Trinity. They had to add characters to pull the story along.

Ryan Reynolds was hilarious in that movie, BTW. The only good part about it.
