We were all smart enough to persevere for many years as Chiefs fans to see them reward us with an epic postseason run and a Super Bowl championship. That brings all of us - save JakeF, RedDawg, and okchiefs - onto the 'above average' level.

About 27 years years ago, I saw him in an off-strip place pull off a shot to win a match for $50,000 that defies explanation. And he called the pocket. Basically the cue and 9 were frozen, the 9's natural angle would take it into the side rail at about the 2nd diamond. He looked it over, walked around the table, chalked up, pointed with his cue at the side pocket across from him, got down and stroked across the cue, sending it 3 rails while the cue went in the opposite direction 3 rails. They collided back in the middle of the table, and the nine caromed into the side pocket. Most insane billiards shot for money I've ever seen.

And the fact that he worked it out and committed to the shot in less than 30 seconds is utterly amazing.

It was late mid to late 90s at Raytown Rec. He was playing 3 cushion for big cash with someone and I can't for the life of me remember who. Heck, it may have been Keith McCready or Danny Harriman, it's funny to think of all the ballers from back in that era of pool in KC. My memory isn't so great for the stories back then. Once they finished up, he went over to Big Bertha and kept playing and playing and playing with other folks.

An interesting story, Keith McCready hung out a lot at Rack's in Lee's Summit in the early to mid 2000s. That dude was a trip. He played Grady in The Color of Money, for the people that don't know. He had juuuuuuuust a little bit of a drug problem. He could still play but, man, was he completely whacked out.

I got you. I have a hard time remembering stuff from way back when too. I can't even remember the name of the guy he played for that $50,000 but I knew his name back then. Can't remember the name of the off-strip joint we were in either. It's on the tip of my tongue, but . . . He was a kind of famous pool player back then. Not top 10 elite, but if you read about pool back then you'd seen his name and picture every once in a while.

Most fun match to watch was Dave Matlock and Buddy Hall at Shooters in Olathe. Probably 1995 or 1996. I've never seen any players drink as much as those dudes cumulatively drank and still look absolutely in control. We watched for probably two hours and it was great. They were playing 8 ball on bar boxes for like $1000 a set. Cash on the table, that stuff is so fun to watch.

Feel like this question has too much common sense involved to actually be "tricky." Short of being brain dead the answer should be in your head before you even start thinking about it.

At least with the bat and ball question that was posted earlier you had to think about it for even a split second before you realized its just a long winded way of asking whats 10 divided by 2.

With most of these types of riddles you have to get thinking on the right path, which is often predicated on quickly understanding what is actually being asked, like the ball question. If not you will get bogged down in a way that will never produce the answer and it’s hard to move off of what you think should produce the answer.

This .the math itself is easy
another example

In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

I've heard that one before and after I was given the answer I just left thinking that it was reeruned. There's no logical reason to ever come to the answer.

When I heard it the didnt ask how much a pear cost and instead just asked, "How much is a pear?" The only thing I could think of was 2 as if it was a play on words. Then I find out fruit is sold by the vowel... stupid.

It is a fairly narrow form of intelligence assessment, but it does have a validity.

When problem-solving in an artificial setting, such as a hypothetical question, one needs to structurally recognize a couple of assumptions; that there is a right answer, and that you are provided enough information to find that right answer. With that basis, the task becomes finding the pattern where a pattern isn't apparent.

You are given the information that question wants you to know, and you are given the conclusion the question wants you to divine. Once you place yourself in that, admittedly artificial, cognitive space, the answer has a singular rationality.

DeepPurple 03-25-2020 11:00 AM

Many of those who have responded with yes, probably suffer from this problem. Drooped Head Syndrome, it's when your head is so full of knowledge you can no longer hold your head upright, it becomes too heavy. I'm here to tell you we have the answer sold on Amazon for the low low price of $29.99, and if you buy now, we'll include a second for free, just pay a small additional shipping and handling fee.

I just feel like that question is one of those childhood kid games where 1 kid came up with some arbitrary way to price fruit and started asking his friends how much a pear cost just to make himself feel smarter.

For instance I could say, an apple cost $0.10. A mango cost $1.30. A grape cost $0.70. How much does honeydew cost?

Despite my high ACT test scores & grades as a scholar, I presume I am of below average intelligence. My reasoning? I have a very small dome. Like I wear size 7.0 hat. Studies have shown the larger the dome, the more likely you are to have great intelligence. You know, like aliens.

And also everyone on Chiefsplanet seems to always say I'm a moron or and idiot when I state an opinion on. Anything. And we clearly know how many geniuses we have here on Chiefsplanet based on these poll results.

If this was in the DC, I could say that I know I'm smarter than average because half of the people in this country are democrats/republicans and therefore stupid.

A surveyors 100' steel tape expands and contracts because of heat and cold temperature. So he has it calibrated at 68F. The surveyors chain has a temperature coefficient of .00000645.

What measurement correction does the surveyor need to make on a 12F day to precisely measure 100' with his calibrated tape?

What correction on a 98F day to measure 100'?

All US survey foot. No SI units.

dlphg9 03-25-2020 05:18 PM

There are alot of crazies/weirdos on here, but there is only 1 person on this entire site that I would say has below average intelligence. Let's get to the name

I failed to mention us survey foot is Tenths of a foot. Carry out to 3 decimal places feet tenths hundredths and thousandths like a micrometer.

srvy 03-25-2020 05:39 PM

When we a done we can do steel tape sag correction for unsupported tape using the weight of tape pound of pull for 100 feet to apply to the measurements above.

Maybe go on for correction over long distances curvature and refraction like the US Geodetic surveyors used on triangulation stations across the USA.

All can be expected on the US Professional Land surveyors test to be licensed.

I had instructors who always said that but not true.

Land Surveyors in Canada have it harder I always heard as they settle land disputes. So more schooled in Law. In the states, we just retrace and collect information and legal disputes are settled in court with finale say the judge. We take a state-specific test on Boundry Law and Riparian rights.
