What's kind of funny is that apparently there's a growing contingent of Mahomes fans in CO now. How great would it be to see their stadium half-filled with red 15 jerseys?

The AFC was garbage in most of those years. A team led by Bernie Kosar was their best competition.

The Chiefs are possibly the biggest postseason underachievers in the league, yet they have a very good chance of tying Denver’s SB total in a few months.

I kind of expect this to be a game where Andy goes somewhat vanilla and we never really put them away. I expect to win by 10 maybe 14, but at the end Lock is still trying to make it happen enough that Chiefs fans of old are nervous and Broncos fans think it was close.

Their altitude advantage is the single greatest competitive advantage in all of sports. It helped them pad their regular season records and earn playoff births. Playing at home in the playoffs afforded them the same advantage. That is why good, not great, bronco teams made it to the super bowl so many times only to get blown out by vastly superior teams.

The boost they get record-wise from their thin air home games cannot be understated. Between that and their documented history of cheating on and off the field, Denver is no better than other run of the mill team. Their fans who think they have some sort of great legacy crack me up.

Here is the bronco legacy in the order of most important contributions to their three tainted super bowl wins.

Thin air advantage.
Cheating the salary cap.
John Elway.
Cheating on the field and dirty play.
Manning’s farewell tour and subsequent reach around from the league.
Elite defense during Super Bowl L run.

Denver fans are some of the most delusional and self-entitled fans in the league. The chief’s legacy already surpasses theirs and will only dwarf it by the time Mahomes, Reid, and Veach are done.

FloridaMan88 10-21-2020 08:58 AM

Before Mahomes... In case you haven't noticed, # 15 is good at changing history. I like our chances of winning more Super Bowls before he hangs it up.
You do realize that with each passing season, you and your kind are running out of legit negative things to say about the Chiefs, as well as legit positive things to say about the Broncos...One franchise is one of the most relevant in the league, while the other is one of the most Irrelevant One is achieving new heights annually, while one is going on 4 losing seasons in a row...Get used to it - It's called the Mahomes Effect...:)

I think that "cheating on the field and dirty play" needs to be subdivided into categories. You've got equipment cheating like vegetable oil, you've got sportsmanship cheating like diving at the backs of players' knees, you've got a special category for Romanowski trying to break players' fingers in the pile, and I'm pretty sure that Aqib Talib and Von Miller carried guns in their waistbands.

TIED5573 10-21-2020 11:47 AM

I'm sure you can find some guys after they retired talking about it, but it's not something anyone talks about when they're playing, I think it's a mental thing.

It seems like the highly trained athlete would be less affected and with oxygen available the recovery should be pretty rapid. I would think the linemen would be most affected.

After a short search on the Google, it's pretty well documented about the advantage. The one article indicates it would take approximately 11 days to fully acclimate.
Hence the reason the Olympic training center is in Colorado Springs.

Um, altitude isn't a mental thing, it's definitely physical. There's literally a little less oxygen at higher altitudes. Roughly, there's about 4% less O2 at 5,000 ft. vs. sea level. Doesn't sound like much, but air is only 21% oxygen in the first place. So playing at DEN means a visiting player must perform with only 80% of the O2 his body is normally used to.

Less O2 means your muscles will burn through the available O2 faster, and it will take longer for your body to reaccumulate it. So lactic acid production and build-up are both going to happen faster.

In other words, you get tired quicker and it takes longer to recover. At the beginning of a game, highly trained athletes won't notice this as much as a regular person might, but it's cumulative, so by the 2nd half (or earlier for fatties) is when they probably really notice it.

However, if you live at higher altitudes, your body becomes accustomed to making do with less O2. It takes a few weeks for your body to produce the extra red blood cells. So Broncos players don't feel the effects as soon or as much as a visiting player.

That's why playing at Mile High is such an advantage for DEN.

They don’t call him “Snowtime” Mahomes for nothing

RunKC 10-21-2020 12:27 PM

Remember when Andy was on Cowherd and said he would tell Colin a play he would call against Denver?

Wonder what the play is?

Ah, the ol' "We've got a great offense, but our WRs keep dropping shit!"

Reminds me of Chiefs fans during the Haley era.

The Broncos still have professional players on their team. If this team can't get up and perform against the SB champs then top 10 pick here they come. They were playing hard against the Patriots and are on a 2 game win streak.

They've lost close games to the 5-0 Steelers, 4-0 Titans, and were blown out by the 4-2 Bucs. I don't think this Broncos team is as bad as people think. The Chiefs should win as they are the better team but I don't think the Broncos are going to lay down easily ala scrimmage game.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-21-2020 01:20 PM

They literally win 2 plus games a year due to that cheap thin air. You can subtract FORTY wins from them the last 20 years to get a true take on how their team was

The Broncos have a decent defense. They have the ability to keep games close.

Their offense is freaking horrid though.

They are lacking a decent QB and an O-line player or two. Of course the lacking the a decent QB is the big elephant in the room.

Yep. QB is a big problem for them. Lock is very boom or bust right now.

Am I right in suggesting the only 2 decent defense players they have are Simmons & Chubb? Miller is out which is big for us.

Johnson is a pretty good LB.

Shelby Harris is solid.

Yea he’s easy to forget about because of the role he plays for them, but he’s great in that role.

And also aided a lot of those 4th quarter Elway comebacks.

Yup, apparently 24 degrees is the forecast temp and 50% chance of 1-3 inches of snow.

Chiefs have shown they can play in frigid temps, but seems like a bigger adjustment this time coming so early in year.

Red Dawg 10-21-2020 07:36 PM

Mahomes will dominate.

That photo reminds me that Drew Lock thinks he is faster and more agile than he really is compared to NFL players. He did the same thing at Mizzou, trying to scramble for a first down and not coming close to escaping.

With the Broncos, both times he was injured and missed games was because he thought he was running away from a player that he was not able to avoid.

This never really gets talked about....but in Elway's farewell, cap-cheating season, the Vikings were 15-1...and the best team in football. Anderson missed like a 30 yards FG to send the Falcons to the SB.

Here's the joke...Anderson didn't miss a kick all year...and made 46 consecutive. The first ever perfect season...

Funny how HOF QBs, in their retirement season seem to catch all the "luck"...Minnesota would have crushed the Donks.

Remember Manning's retirement HGH AFCCG...NE's kicker hadn't missed an extra point in like 3 years. Magically, he missed...which ultimately forced Brady to ignore a wide-open Gronk for a two-point conversion at the end.

yeah....
