With their 7th goal tonight, the Colorado Avalanche have now scored 7 goals in 6 games this year (including 3 straight games). No other team has more than 2 such games.
These 6 games are also all in the last 30 days 11/11 7-1 vs Vancouver 11/19 7-3 vs Seattle 11/22 7-5 vs Ottawa 12/6 7-5 vs Philadelphia 12/8 7-3 vs New York 12/10 7-3 vs Detroit https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comm..._the_colorado/ ...76 goals in 14 games. |
Cale Makar just killed a man.

Makar and MacKinnon give me FOMO whenever I miss a game (saw that one though)... they're both incredible.
And we're back to no fans in Toronto. :( |
Man, when healthy (except for Nichushkin, and he was playing great before he got hurt) the Avs are no joke. They're going to be a real problem in the playoffs this year as long as injuries don't derail them.
|
|
Wow. Was it backup goalies at least?
|

I watched the 3rd when I saw it was 7-5... the Wings had two 'throw it on net' tipped goals, followed by a couple of really bad goals (one from below a faceoff dot). And in other news, I hate back to back games, Avalanche look slow tonight. |

That was a fun 30 seconds.

So.... these Avs over the last 2 weeks have been something else. Really playing well at the moment. I read a stat today that said this is the best record in franchise history after 80 games.
Tonight's game is another crazy comeback to at least tie it up for a chance to win... |
Quote:
It's awesome, but this year is judged in the postseason. |

They are playing very well together right now though. That's really encouraging. Just got a pretty questionable goal taken away after review. THEN JUST ****ING SCORED!!! WHOOO |

Contract-wise, they at least have this season and next before having to resign MacKinnon and replace Erik Johnson (on top of Kadri being a UFA at the end of this season). |
JFC.

18th come-from-behind win this season.
|
|
That was exhilarating. Puck luck went our way in this one.

The old days.

Forsberg. Man, I hope that guy is enjoying retirement. Lots of good memories.
Tonight's game was pretty rough though... |
This is ****ing beautiful (after the bad turnover at the blue line :doh!: )... the effort on defense, Makar getting the hell out of there with the puck, the give and go...

Man, they had some great chances in the 3rd... they had that game in regulation. First time with consecutive losses of any kind in 4 months.
|
Blues just had a rough trip through New York City - lost to Rangers, Islanders and Devils.
|
Avs have been struggling over the last week or so. Some painful losses. But Makar has certainly been a very pleasant surprise this year. He is having an incredible year. Really impressive stat...
https://i.imgur.com/IIuAMzl.jpg |
Yeah, it was a strange week... looked like the Leafs in a couple games, trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Had all kinds of chances against the Flames and couldn't quite get it done, but had one goal between the Yotes and Canes. :doh!:
It's nice of the scheduling gods to have a west coast swing right after time change though, so the games will be 7:30 here instead of 8:30. |
Don't see this everyday.... overturned an OT goal 40 minutes later.
They won anyway. https://www.uscho.com/2022/03/19/min...ate-to-resume/

Minnesota State hockey scores a game winning goal in OT to win the conference title, they then awarded the trophy, had a celebration and everyone left. 15 minutes after everyone left the arena the goal is reviewed and overturned and they’re going to resume play! Avs have made several trades or so over the last few weeks, 2 in the last couple days. Sounds like they're going all in for the season...

Losing a couple of good prospects and draft picks hurts a bit, but our D is so stacked that it's hard to get TOO upset, especially if you still think Byram can get back to form. (He's skating in a full-contact sweater at practice as of this morning, so there's hope.) Overall, I'm pleased. Sakic got good value that makes us a much tougher team to play against without giving up the farm. |
Quote:
|
Yeah, Sakic is great at plugging holes without overreacting. Cogliano has been around forever. Not familiar with Lehkonen, but he has 13 goals/29 assists.
Picked up some defensive depth whether Byram is back or not, plus the forward depth they needed (hoping Landeskog is back). Would have loved to pick up Toffoli, but the Flames gave up a lot... and that's just the EA Sports stack-a-roster in me. Nick Leddy would have been fun to watch on this team, but of course don't really need him. Saw people pining over Jost on reddit (much like we do with Chiefs JAGs), but Sakic's never been afraid to move guys and he hasn't exactly taken the next step. |

Good Avs game tonight. Heading into OT.
The Avs had the most insane couple power plays tonight, that I've seen in a while. It was a straight up shooting gallery for 2 straight minutes, they had complete control of the zone the entire time, but couldn't get one in the net. Multiple shots off the bar. Boom, Avs just won the game as I was typing. MacKinnon in OT! |
Quote:
|
Quote:
I think that was Kadri in OT who oh so subtly ripped off the Oilers helmet and that guy had to leave the ice right before MacKinnon scored? Uh... oops? |
Quote:
That OT was really impressive too. Avs totally dominated the 3 on 3. Like you said, very fluid and passes were just money. Really fun to watch. |
Senators owner Eugene Melnyk passes away at the age of 62. It'll be interesting to see what happens with that market/franchise moving forward.

Couch day is off to a good start.
Panthers down to the Devils 4-1 and 6-2... now tied at 6 with 1:24 left. Then quickly onto Avalanche/Penguins before the Final Four. :toast: |
Pens tie the game... Avalanche respond in 23 seconds.

Man... Avs stole one tonight. Oilers were playing incredible defense. Avs bounced multiple shots off the posts. Just couldn't get anything going their way for more than half the game. Somehow got to OT, and put on one of the craziest power play kills I've seen in a while. Then won the shootoff. Great game. Record Avs season continues.

I wondered about Kuemper early in the season, but 49 saves last night and 3rd in the league in save percentage.

This started as an interesting thread, but then goes to show how out of touch he is with reality. I think he had good intentions (unlike all those crosschecks to the back), but most people are probably aware of the ~40-50% taxes, then he says you need to pay $5k/month to live somewhere and a $75k car (much less investing the money you earn and making more in a few years than most people do in a lifetime...).

When you hear about X player making $30M over 5 years ($6M/yr) you think wow he made it. Avs are up on the Kings 4-0 after 11 minutes. ROFL
|
Sometimes the schedule is a real bitch.... Kings played in Minnesota on Sunday and in Chicago yesterday, before flying to Denver to play a 50-win team that hasn't played since Saturday.
|
Some defenseman stats over the past ~20 years...

Damn the Avs look good. That lineup with Landeskog and Kadri added is gonna be sick. Can't wait for the playoffs to start.
|
Yeah, Avs are putting on a show tonight. Wow. Their passing tonight has been something else. Really fun to watch. MacKinnon in beast mode.
My youngest sister is at this game tonight, and has been texting me telling me how much fun she's having. Something to the effect of "I might have to start watching this more." |
Should've put $300 on them to win the Cup at +500 when I was in Vegas last month. Already down to +$350 when I checked DK last week. Sports book at the Virgin sucks and I blew it off because I was partying pretty hard. Knew I'd regret it.
|
Remember when Tarasenko was exposed in the expansion draft?
I feel like maybe Seattle ****ed up there… |
Quote:
They could have grabbed him and turned him into draft picks in a couple years when he's a UFA. |
The ****ing Knights are ****ing going to ****ing make the playoffs **** **** ****.

I mean it’s possible but I wouldn’t say it’s likely. |

7 straight wins. |

They're only 1 point out of the 3rd Pacific spot though, because the Kings haven't been great lately... and the Knights have an extra game on them. And they're the ****ing luckiest goddamned ****ing lucky team in the history of the NHL. |
Interesting Blues/Wild game... granted, I watch so few Wild games I really had no idea who Kirill Kaprizov was, despite his 40+ goals and 90+ points in just his 2nd season.

I don't care for having him in the same division. As though dealing with McKinnon and that infant defenseman that puts up 90 points/season isn't pain in the ass enough. Kadri being a PPG player at 31 years old after being a 3rd line kind of player pretty much his whole career just annoys the shit out of me. Don't yall have enough already? "Ha Ha! Now we have some finnish guy we drafted a decade ago who's somehow still only in his mid 20s and he's a 40 goal scorer too!" Diiiiiiiiiiicks. |
LMAO

Granted, the Blues have won a Cup in the past 20 years, so there's that...
|
Quote:
3 lines that can all score and a physical forecheck. Then again, the defense might just suck (still). So who the hell knows... |
Speaking of playoff hockey, 6-4 in Denver....
|
Avs clinch the Western Conference. Kind of odd to have nothing to play for except home ice advantage if we make it to the finals.
|
Blues are heating up. 11 straight scoring at least 4 goals in a game. Husso didn't look that great tonight though.
|
Quote:
Man I had my hopes so high last year. I really thought it would have been a breeze to the cup. This year they look even stronger in every regard. They've made some really good trades to gain every advantage. Trying very hard right now to not get overly excited..... |

My Kings are hanging on for dear life. A big 2 points last night, coupled with a VGK loss gives them a 3 point lead, but VGK has a game in hand.
Not that it ultimately matters because Colorado, but hey! |

Man, such a difference between Francouz and Kuemper.
Please stay healthy Darcy... |
The WC WC race took a turn with Vegas losing 3 of 4, and losing to the Devils the other night... now really needing a win against the Caps tonight.
It would be pretty nostalgic for the Canucks to make it... they were so easy to hate back in the day. I think they won multiple Presidents trophies, but except for one Finals appearance, just wasn't a good playoff team at all. The Avalanche also took the division from them a few times, and once or twice on the last day of the season. Granted, 20 years later the Avalanche need some playoff success so they don't become the same team. |
Love how other teams troll the Knights and the fact that everyone hates them.

LMAO.... Nobody likes Vegas teams...
Avs looking pretty good tonight. Really attacking in the 2nd period... |
Quote:
I saw a video on Vegas' Lehner drama the other day... and how their management has never trusted what they had in their team, even after making the Finals in year one. Then the Fleury drama on top of that, too. I hadn't ever thought of it that way and have mostly hated them because they're the luckiest try-hard Wild-like team ever.... but, seems like everyone has their reasons. LMAO |
Preds/Flames was a great game.. Flames tied it with 0.1 seconds left and won it in OT. Stars would now catch the Preds with 2 points tonight.
And as the Stars guys said... "two power play chances total tonight, it would take a felony to get a man advantage at this point" ....refs already in whistle swallowing mode. |
Vegas is hanging on by a thread.

I wouldn't mind playing the Stars in the first round... they're kind of a mess.
