I think Wilson’s back. I’m just saying that lineup could be lockdown in stretches.

Let’s say we want to close out a game where our shots aren’t falling. That lineup could shut anyone down.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Hunter. And I think he’ll be a solid shooter next year. But I don’t want to see Adams anywhere near the starting lineup.

Not a starting lineup. Just for stretches.

Are we 100% that David isn't coming back

Everything I heard sounded pretty definitive.

With landing McCullar and possibly Hunter, I’d rather have Dave back than Wilson. Even though I think Wilson is the better player.

Kiimo 05-21-2022 10:47 AM

Well I complained all year that we didn't have enough bigs and then we won the championship so maybe it isn't as important as I assume but having Udeh be our only true big is very uh noteworthy

I can’t say I have any connections or inside information, but he’s looking great right now in all that pre-draft stuff. Getting good publicity there too. Would be nice if he stayed though.

You obviously can win it all without depth at bigs as KU just showed. But KU had a bracket that gave them favorable matchups. Not something you can always count on.

And Dave played well in the tournament and I don't really remember him being in foul trouble in a critical stretch.

Say if KU had played Zaga, or some other team with some burly bigs, and he had gotten in early foul trouble...

Kiimo 05-21-2022 12:16 PM

Yep got lucky. I like Clemons but he’s not going to be some kind of rim protector.

Neither is that freshman 6’8 “center” Zuby Ejiofor

Once he got invited to the combine it was unlikely he returned

Udeh is 6’10” with a 7’+ wingspan. Good athlete too.

He shows the most promise as a rim protector. Just seems really raw on offense.

Hopefully, he can just focus on defending, rebounding, and finishing bunnies for his first year.

Does anyone else see Kyle Anderson in Jalen Wilson? Or is that just me?

He got invited based on one uncharacteristically hot shooting performance, and hasn’t done particularly well since. I’ve heard he still plans to come back. The same issues that made him undraftable last year are still present.

McCullar and DaJuan are going to be great defenders. If Clemence, Dick and Rice can score in bunches next years squad could round into form.

Still need more 3 point shooting, though.

I'm really excited for him but my post was more about who else besides him is a big on this team?

I miss having multiple bigs but also we seem capable of winning without them

Yeah I hear ya. We really haven’t had that for a full season since 2016.

Even then, Perry was the 4 but our depth was strong.

Would’ve had it in 2019 with Dedric and Doke, but Doke got hurt.

I’m kind of floored AJ Green decided to stay in the draft instead of transferring to Iowa State. He isn’t even on anyones top 100 but apparently he thinks he has a two way deal with the Bucks.

RustShack 06-01-2022 07:17 PM

We are probably 7-8 in the Big12 now, with him flirting with 4 but probably 5-6.

Has to be.

I really like this roster.

I expect Harris to take a major step forward.

We’re loaded with wings again: Rice, Dick, Wilson, McCullar

The bigs have a lot of upside. Hopefully, Udeh can take the 5 by the end of the year.

Pettiford looked decent before his injury. It’ll be a good battle between Yesufu and him for the back up point.

Not only did Pettiford look good, but Self has talked him up, and Self doesn't pump sunshine if he doesn't believe it.

Unfortunately, he looked terrible after the injury. If memory serves, I’m thinking he looked really good against Michigan State in the Champions Classic.

Back up point and the 5 will probably determine our ceiling.

If Pettiford or Yesufu can be a spark plug and Udeh locks down the 5, we can win it all again.

Our wings really fit into the new “positionless basketball” again. Rice is my favorite of the bunch.

Anyone think Cam Martin will be any kind of contributor? He is basically a super-super senior now, and reportedly had a nice outside shot for a big.

ETA: I feel like he has been completely forgotten. Not that I expect big things from him, but perhaps an offensive boost off the bench.

I just don't think he has the athleticism to play under Bill Self. He would be a massive liability in this defensive scheme. He may be able to score a bucket here and there, but if he was really good he'd have been on the team last year.

Yeah, the defense is the issue. Heard he was working on strength and agility with the staff since he arrived, so perhaps was hoping for a real transformation.

No. Has anyone ever transferred as a senior and redshirted (not for injury)? I've never even heard of that.

I guess we do live in the age of NIL, so if someone has no future as a professional then might as well stay and earn some cash.

Self has shown he won't sacrifice defense for offense, as far as minutes. He doesn't value shooters as much as many other softer coached teams. I haven't watched enough of the new guys to form a strong opinion either way but Self likes physical, hard nosed kids who can defend. Coming into his Jr season the word on thr street was Dick was a gifted scorer but had work to do on defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice get double the minutes of Dick if he fits that bill. Early comps on Rice I've heard are Wayne Selden.

The Selden comparison seems spot on for Rice. Hopefully, Selden as a junior and not Selden as a sophomore.

Conner Teahan was a TA in one of my marketing classes. I bumped into him right before the 2013-2014 season. I asked if he went back for the alum scrimmage. He said no, but the freshmen were incredible (Wiggins, Embiid, Mason, Selden, Frankamp, Greene).

I asked which one was the best (expecting Wiggins as the obvious answer at the time). He said “Depends on who you ask, but Selden is clearly Coach’s favorite”.

My thinking is Dick is supposedly way more NBA ready. He's listed on NBA mocks for next year as a 1 and done. ESPN has him at #18 while rice isnt listed anywhere. Rice has also been compared more to Selden who was a nice player but not a 1 and done type of guy.

Prison Bitch 06-06-2022 08:21 AM

Without CB and Ochai, we need outside shooting.

smithandrew051 06-09-2022 01:01 PM

I think Kevin Young would be a good fit playing with Grady. The spacing he creates would’ve opened things up for Grady to drive.

I absolutely believe KY would make it easier for Dick to get to the hole.

Without a true 5 like Big Mac, the back door should be wide open. Dick can pound it inside using high low action.

We won’t be as predictable but we should score in spurts.

There?

Arkansas has a good coach now, and is ranked in the top 5 (3?) of next year's preseason poll.

We won’t be as predictable but we should score in spurts.

Elijah Johnson would’ve been good in the back court with Grady in the front court.

Johnson in the front and Dick in the back would allow for some great double penetration.

EJ was pretty dreadful from deep. IMO Dick is a volume shooter and great ball-handler.
