Remember when Greg Wesley picked off Brady 3 times?
|
Recent memory was Kelce killing off the Chargers in OT with the walk off TD,
The ref running a pick on Tim Brown as James Hasty scored on a pick six in OT to win the game was pretty sweet. T Vanover returns a punt in OT to win and cover vs. SD. I was at all of these games. P.S. The Vanover return game was the night where they set up a sobriety checkpoint on I-435 and traffic was back up for hours. |
Even Kelce was shocked he scored that TD in OT last year against the Chargers.
And really, we had no business winning that game. But thanks to Staley thinking he was smarter than he really was, we ended up with another game of the year candidate. |
Montana vs. Elway MNF 1994. I was at the game with a group called Chiefs Travel.Walking out of that stadium doing the tomahawk chop after a win like that was PBJ

1. October 31, 1999: Chiefs beat Chargers 34-0 on Halloween. I was at this game as well. It's also known as the Brandsmart game since they had a deal where any purchase over $399 that week would be refunded if the Chiefs shut the Chargers out (according to what I've read). The Chargers had the ball at the Chiefs 1 yard line at the end of the game. Harbaugh tried a QB sneak and didn't make it. The crowd was super into it considering it was a 34-0 game late in the 4th quarter. 2. October 10th, 1999: Chiefs beat the Patriots 16-14 on a missed chip shot at the buzzer by a young Adam Vinatieri. When I say chip shot, we're talking a 32 yarder. It happened in my end zone in section 110. We all thought we lost but...he missed it somehow and the place went nuts. 3. November 23, 2006: Chiefs beat Denver 19-10 on Thanskgiving at Arrowhead. I was at this game as well. It was just an old fashioned ass beating. We ran LJ down their pussy throats and kicked a bunch of field goals. |

There's a lot of good ones on this list, lots of fond memories.
But I'll say Mahomes abusing the Steelers early in his rookie season. They'd been physically crushing us for years, and to me, this game told me for sure that Mahomes was special and that all of those years of frustration were over. We were now going to be the bullies. It was glorious, and far more than just a random September football game. |

I was there. |
1. Grbac to Rison @ raidernation.
2. Seeing the whole team come together to kick the ass of the 49ers with Montana at the helm. |
There have been so many..
I really remember well the 1986 season. The Chiefs offense was kinda good. Special teams were unreal. Defense was solid. Kenney replaced Blackledge for the Chargers home game and they won a real high scoring. 46-45 (or something). I was at that game. And then they went on to win 3 or 4 straight before losing 3 straight. Then, at home beat the living shit out of Denver. ( i was at that game). Then it got kinda magical: Down 16-0 in San Diego, Chiefs score 24 in the 2nd half to eek out a 24-23 victory. I think Henry Marshall had a huge late reception to seal it. Chiefs are 9-6. Have to win the last game on the road to secure a playoff spot. And then the game at PITT. Chiefs offense was horrible. But the ST's put up all the points on a fumble reocovery in the EZ, a 97 yard KO return and 3 FG's. The playoff game vs the JETS sucked. But the journey that year was pretty ****ing amazing. |
Some of these games I forgot.
Charles 5 TD against Raiders DT 6 sacks vs Raiders. Has anyone had the crazy amount of multiple sacks in a game like DT? |

The Andre Rison catch. I laughed at my Raider buddy. He was not amused.

A ton of great finishes over the years. Been to many, but I’m still sentimental about the Brandsmart game in 99 because it was my last weekend in KC before moving to Florida. Weather was perfect that day and we blanked the Chargers 34-0. I doubt Brandsmart ever ran that promotion again.

The game we destroyed the defending AFC champs on one of the first MNF games I remember seeing the Chiefs in, at an absolutely thirsty Arrowhead sticks out as my favorite. The domination on the field of a good team, it was the first time I remember thinking of the Chiefs as a team that could be the team (the beginning of a very long trudge through the wilderness). I was over the moon elated and was therefore completely destroyed when we lost to the same team in Buffalo in the divisional round.
There of course have been other great ones, but that one was so significant in my personal fanhood. I mark the Royals winning the World Series as my "awakening" to sports. The Chiefs were still very bad for several years (with a brief blip in 86) and despite the playoff season in 90, this was the first time I remember feeling like we're not just a playoff contender, we were something more. |
Super Bowl LIV. After Mahomes hit wasp, I just felt like the game was ours. Only after rewatching it, did I realise that we were still behind when Sammy torched Richard Sherman. The utter joy of seeing Damian break off tackle and seal the first championship in 50 years. As much as I will always remember those plays, the real reason it is my favorite is who I was watching it with. My wife, both daughters, their husbands, and my 4 grandkids. I honestly think that may have been the happiest I have ever been in my life. Getting to share that with them, after being a Chiefs fan since December 25, 1971, was the most awesome experience I have ever had.

Still, BrandSmart didn't actually lose any money as a result of this promotion. There's a company called SCA Promotions that insures promotions, prizes, and other risky marketing efforts for a small percentage of the prize value being offered (SCA determines the percentage based on the likelihood of the prize being won), alleviating the companies from a potential windfall (some professional teams do this with player performance bonuses as well). Every time a corporation trots a fan onto the field to punt a ball into the bed of a pickup truck or attempt a 40-yard field goal to win $50,000, the prize is almost always insured. In the end, BrandSmart sold $425,000 in merchandise and only had to pay a fraction of that to SCA. https://www.vice.com/amp/en/article/...ctronics-chain |
