What a blessing it was that OBJ declined our offer. Dude is not worth that money. As others have said in this thread, sign him at RT money and play him there or move on.

The OL overhaul is basically only part finished. The IOL will be fine but if you can't sort OTs it's pretty worthless. Agree with others, OBJ can go to RT. The whole wanting to play LT because of his dad was a nice story but, sorry, he's not a top 5 OT and he can't have market leading pay.

I never understood the excitement for a guy who was a run blocking specialist first and foremost, but to be honest I thought he was decent last year. He looks like he's regressed.

FAX 09-25-2022 11:21 PM

The OL made a significant contribution to this disaster today.

However, everyone in that organization should be embarrassed ... top to bottom.

Maybe the Ravens knew what they were doing when they traded Brown to the Chiefs? A bit like the Seahawks and Clark?

He's an albatross. If we're going to win more SBs, and we are, it'll be when we don't have expensive flops like Clark and we refuse to overpay for the likes of OBJ. Schwartz and Fisher were a million miles better than what we currently have. We may not get that level of OT play for awhile but that's the standard we need.

Titty Meat 09-26-2022 02:34 AM

Wylie isn't good & Smith is playing hurt so they are already playing at a disadvantage. Today Brown wasn't very good at all. This line is big and physical so runs would probably help. Today the run game was puzzling it seemed like most of the runs took a few seconds to develop

You're right, he does look like he's regressed. The weight he lost in the off season is NOT helping his quickness at all. Maybe it takes something away from his game, especially when run blocking.

Wylie has been better that OBJ this year, as bad as that is.

OBJr is a RT and he needs to embrace it. He should prefer to be in a role where he's good rather than one where he struggles. It's silly.

htismaqe 09-26-2022 11:30 AM

He's not going to embrace it.

We're going to have to flat out replace him. Let him be some other team's problem, even if we can't get a solid return for him. Simply cannot pay him anywhere near what he wants...

Which leads me to wonder if he will have the self awareness to stop asking to be top of the heap in guaranteed money.

His dad passed away in 2011. But I agree, it's a no-go for me too. If he can't accept being paid like a decent RT - which even that may be a stretch - then you have to be smart and just move on. You can't give mediocre players big contracts when you're paying a franchise QB.

Not sure what his deal is so far this year because he wasn't this bad last year. He had his moments but he didn't have a game like he did against the Colts.

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but wasn’t the Titans game pretty much a disaster for him? And pretty much everyone that day.

I think the only quality OL on the team are Thuney & Humphrey. Trey Smith must be really hurt because he has been sucking hard.

This was mentioned on 610 AM. They said he’s really been hurting in his ankle and Wylie was hurting in the Colts game too but powered through it.

That’s nice but just sit them if they can’t help

Shiver Me Timbers 09-27-2022 12:06 PM

The O line better bring the A game against Tampa. Or AR needs to tell PM to stay the hell out of the pocket. And you can forget the running game.

Allegretti is a competent guard. If Smith is hurting, then let him heal. Allegretti can play well enough to give Smith a chance to get better.

Wylie can’t afford to be a step slow. He doesn’t exactly have athleticism or strength to spare. At 100%, he’s just okay. Rest him until he’s ready too.

Smith has been very poor, I'd get him right. Pretty confident he turns out what we hoped. Brown is trickier. Agree with The Franchise he was better last year, albeit with some bad games. This year who knows, maybe he's faced more top end DEs in a small sample? Maybe he's stepped back.

Big issue with Brown is he's just going to have to face quick DEs and high end ones game after game, especially in the division. I never understood the excitement for a guy that was a run game specialist but last year I was largely pleasantly surprised. Now, I'm back to when we traded, and pretty glad we didn't pay him.

It took Brown a few games to get right last year. Hopefully he gets it together enough not to get our franchise QB hurt.

KChiefs1 09-27-2022 07:56 PM

1st & goal at the 4 to start the second half:

Two wasted running plays. Just pass it every down because running it is just a waste with this group of RB’s behind this OL.

He's not even a good run blocking LT this year. He is the biggest problem on the OL. Next is RT. Both are bad. I think Smith works it out when healthy.

RaidersOftheCellar 09-28-2022 06:25 AM

OL’s been disappointing, but I think people are overreacting a little. This was widely considered one of the best lines in football and they have another year of experience. They didn’t just wake up one day and collectively suck. I think Smith is probably hampered by injury and needs to sit. Wylie we all knew is mediocre. Brown is the problem, if there is one. But I’d imagine he’ll get it together like he did last year. Regardless, they shouldn’t give him big money. It would be ridiculous to let Hill go and then give a boatload to an average at best tackle.

Wylie is an inconvenience. Brown is an emergency.

Then that's a failure on the coaching staff. Why are you starting a RG with an ankle issue and a RT with a shoulder issue? That's ****ing stupid. But these are also the same people who trot Hardman out there with an ankle issue as well.

Playing hurt doesn't seem to get much mention when players win, but it sure is used as an excuse when they lose.

We can band-aid the WR for one more season. There aren't any bandaids for the tackles spots unless a guy like Jenkins does shake free at RT. Pretty well need to draft those guys, and it's been a couple of seasons overdue. Veach should have bit the bullet in 2020 instead of trading for Jr.

The tackles coming out of that draft, at least the ones that were in reach, have been either ass or injured. Brown was the best move at the time. It just wasn't a great draft.

Depends on what you define as "in reach."

Anything outside of the top 10 is very likely in reach. Darrisaw has not been ass and he fell to 23.

Edit: I see I typed 2020 draft and meant 2021 (the year we traded for Orlando Shitstain)
