Sorry, but it's just going to be awhile until I can get rid of Josh Gordon from my mind every time I see a Chiefs #19 out there running a practice route.

Hope Toney makes me forget real soon.

Call it a 1 in 50 shot. We got him for nothing. If he never gets on the field, he didn't cost anything.

If he gets on the field, he's talented enough to eventually be a heck of a play-maker.

It's all upside really.

Well, yeah, I think probably every KC fan is feeling about the same way. Just some of us would rather be optimistic rather than negative, because the potential upside is so high.

And with the offense rolling as well as it is right now, it feels like a good gamble.

Wasn’t Ross more of a CP training camp hero? One of those comes and goes every year.

Toney is a first round pick from an elite program who did it against top competition, etc. His game is his game, he’s had some injuries, but it isn’t like he was a UDFA from the MAC who flashed in a preseason game

From what I gathered, Ross was once a potential first rd pick, but injuries destroyed his draft status. But I watched a couple of his highlight reels, and he did look pretty impressive. If he can get healthy, he could end up being a solid piece in the offense. Very dynamic player in college when healthy, and really good hands.

Toney has played 12 games as a pro...his 189 game would rank 10th all-time (KC) and the 5th most of the Mahomes era. Hill owning 3 of those...Watkins the other. It's within 10 yards of 5th all-time. 190, 193, 197,197, 198.

I think it would probably be the highest output by a rookie...and the most yards in 32 years without Mahomes at QB.

He did this with Daniel Jones...

He's no chump...Skye Moore puts up almost 200...people would lose their shit.

Couch-Potato 11-06-2022 07:22 AM

Could Toney become just as good as Tyreek?

"When Toney was coming out of Florida, Tyreek Hill was a natural draft comparison because of Toney's dynamic slot playmaking in the open field combined with speedy field-stretching ability. Toney (6-0, 193 pounds) is a little taller than Hill (5-10, 191) but his 4.39 40-yard dash says he also can be fast enough for Kansas City."

Tyreek was a 5th round pick, Toney was pick #20.

Both are known for speed, but Toney is also really illusive.

Both played RB, WR, Gadget, Returner, but Toney can also throw the ball.

True, in that way they are different.

Toney has a different skill set than Tyreek's game breaking speed, he's shifty instead, but it's interesting that Hill wasn't expected to be much coming in to the league and Chiefs were able to build him up. Hoping Toney has the same work ethic and if so, just might have some of that Tyreek career trajectory.

Coming out of college Hill wasn't a very polished WR. it took a lot of time and work obn Tyreek's part and the coaching staff to make him what he is today.

Toney came into the league as the more complete WR. Of course, Hill has the acceleration/speed advantage, and had the best offensive/receiving coaches at his disposal in KC and has become one of the best overall WRs in the NFL.

Hoping Toney can reap similar benefits.

and he's STILL not a natural catcher of the football. Hill is a body clutcher far too often. But he's a great TRACKER of the football, in addition to being the fastest guy on the field.

Toney appears to be a hands catcher, and by all accounts has excellent spacial awareness. So yeah, there's reason to be excited.

Dialed up the first play out of the gate for him. How come they didn't do this for Moore? Just because Toney is a vet?

duncan_idaho 11-07-2022 08:22 AM

He’s such a unique package of skills. To have those elusive qualities but also be strong enough and big enough to power through tackles for extra yards, while also being a hands catcher who tracks the ball well AND who has legit 4.4 speed, it’s just a great package.

I’m not sure you could go into a lab and make a better WR for this offense. I guess you could pump his speed up another tick, but he’s plenty fast.

He also seems to have really great instincts and feel for the game, to boot.

I’m excited.

Starting to get really concerned for Moore. Rookie struggles are one thing, but he seems to have a non-existent football IQ. Remember Mahomes getting in his face for not getting downfield properly on a free play he'd chucked down there for him.

Toney has more talent in his pinky finger than Moore has ever had.

JPH83 11-07-2022 08:28 AM

Yeah Toney is a first round talent, Moore not quite. But Moore can come good. He's gonna need a bit more time and confidence. I mean, who knows what we get down the stretch, maybe Toney becomes a legit WR1 and takes a whole load of attention away from Moore who gets to beat up on CB3s. I'm weirdly positive about them both.

#19 he knocks the shit out of that defender then pivots to get open

They got him installed immediately into the game script and they never had him return kicks.

Now i understand why he chuckled when the reporter asked him if he liked returning punts. He already knew what they brought him in for...

Lol at anyone that thought Veach spent a 3rd and a 6th round pick to get a punt returner . . .

Toney had himself a very enticing game. Can't wait to see how he progresses over the next 4-6 weeks.

To be expected. Doesn't know the whole playbook yet. But when he does? Oh man...

Moore made one of the best catches I've ever seen in the preseason. And he looked great after the catch multiple times.

Everyone gets frustrated for Reid not playing rookie WRs, but I suspect this is why. Rookies just don't pick it up that fast. Even Tyreek didn't play much at WR until the end of the year.

I'm not sure many thought that. However given Reids track record many thought he was more of a next year option so they wouldn't have to re-sign hardman. I was pleasantly surprised he was worked in right away

Reid says he was on a snap count but loved his blocking

I actually hoped Toney would get more snaps last night, but it wa a good showing anyway.

God, I hope Toney keeps getting more snaps this season.

But Hardman is balling right now. Making a real case to keep him next season.

Hardman is on pace for about 50 catches and he's the 3rd leading pass catcher on the team after JJSS and Kelce. However, he's got 2 more receptions than MVS and almost 100 yards less.

I like Mecole and he's been playing well but he's still not probably worth what he can get on the open market. Somebody will overpay for the speed.

I liked what little I saw from him. Be curious to see where he is a month from now and at playoff time.

I understand why Hardman would leave and I understand why we'd let him. Nothing against Hardman at all, but I wonder if Toney might end up helping us more long term

ToxSocks 11-07-2022 12:47 PM

Hardman and Toney aren't the same kind of player. No, Toney is not a replacement for Hardman.

These guys couldn't be more different in skill sets.

If you can keep Hardman on a cheap contract you do it. No idea what his market will be like.

I don't think Hardman will be back. Some team will overpay for him just like Conley, Robinson, etc

Is Pringle even in the league anymore?

Stats be damned.

Hardman had the only receiving TD, and he's been making tough catches in big moments in crowds all season. Can't deny any of that, or that we lose this game without his contributions. He's been as integral a part of the offense as anyone this season, making drive-saving catches or runs that have led to scores and ultimately Ws.

Prove me wrong, buddy.:)

Pringle started the season taking starter reps with the Bears.

I don't think anyone overpaid Conley or Robinson.

But i could see some team going all Christian Kirk on Hardman.

I could also see teams realizing what he really is and thus have a real soft market, allowing the Chiefs to retain him.
