It's been a minute, and I tried not to pay much attention to the Chargers at that time due to the insane hatred I had for them being good and Marty being their coach. However I vaguely recall he got shitcanned because of another early playoff loss. Was that really the reason they fired him?

If the Chargers lose, and especially if they lose big, Staley will be gone.

One of many.

Spanos hated his guts. Wouldn't even acknowledged he existed.

The playoff game from the year before was like a Chiefs playoff meltdown.

SD had the game all but won on an interception, but the dumb**** didn't go down and fumbled it back to New England ( go figure) to give them a fresh set of downs.

Missed FG, I think a muffed punt snap (could be wrong) on top of it all I think Rivers was playing on a blown knee.

Marty had nothing to do with it. If Brady made a deal with the devil to get his good fortune Marty must have told the devil to go **** himself.

Facing a 4th and 5 with 6:25 remaining, Brady's pass was intercepted by Marlon McCree, but Troy Brown stripped the ball, and receiver Reche Caldwell recovered it. Schottenheimer unsuccessfully challenged the play and lost a timeout. Chargers players Lorenzo Neal and Nick Hardwick have stated that when McCree intercepted the ball, everyone on the Chargers' sideline yelled "Get down!"[3] Discussing the momentum shift caused by the rapid back-and-forth change of possession, Brown stated that he was thinking "Yep, we're in business" when Caldwell came up with the ball.[3]

Four plays later, Brady threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Caldwell. On the next play, running back Kevin Faulk took a direct snap and scored the two-point conversion, tying the game. Then, after forcing a punt, Brady completed a 19-yard pass to Graham. Two plays later, Caldwell caught a 49-yard strike down the right sideline to set up Gostkowski's third field goal to give them a 24–21 lead with only 1:10 left in the fourth quarter. With no timeouts left, San Diego drove to the Patriots 36-yard line on their final possession, but Nate Kaeding's 53-yard field goal attempt fell short with three seconds remaining in the game.

Rivers torn ACL was the following year.

I remember that play well, I even recall Marty telling his players that on 4th down, knock the ball down, do not catch it. And yet... I still see this today, 4th and forever... a defensive player intercepts the ball and takes the risk of losing it plus yardage when they can do what they usually do best. Not catch it.

The GM at the time, A.J. Smith hated Marty's guts. Spanos was indifferent but sided with the GM and let the Norf Turner era begin.

Marty had a unique, special and scarring kind of signature to his playoff losses.

I'd much rather see the Chargers.

I really don't care who the hell we play as long as Mahomes is behind center I believe we win every time out.

In related news....Joey Bosa practiced all week and is expected to play, but how effective will he be coming off a groin injury after having a core injury that kept him out a majority of the season?

My dead grandma could beat Andrew Wiley off the edge, so I'm sure he's fine.

Yeah, except he'll be going against Jawann Taylor, who's not as bad I'm sure.
