Jags had the best pass rush we will face until the Superbowl.

Bills and Bengals are not as good, that should help a little. The NFC is loaded with pass rush but that will be almost a month away.

We just have to get by next week. If anyone can do it, its Patrick.

The Bengals have Trey Hendrickson. That's enough for me to not want to play them at all.

Correct, he owns Orlando. That is a bad matchup for us.

I want to go through the Bengals most of all. Thats what this team needs to do for their own confidence.

Mahomes seems to have pretty good ligaments. He had his kneecap wrapped around his pelvis and came back after a couple of weeks.

And he wanted to play immediately after the kneecap injury. Coaches & doctors forced him to sit out 2.5 games.

There’s no other QB in football who’s ankle wouldn’t be snapped after that dirty, filthy hit.

The guy has a titanium skeleton. I’m telling you, it’s other worldly.

SupDock 01-21-2023 10:05 PM

It’s definitely to his benefit that he is so good at off balance unorthodox throws. The dude had a QBR over 100 after the injury

UChieffyBugger 01-21-2023 10:22 PM

JUST SAW MAHOMES COMMENTS AFTER THE GAME. Firstly he walked to the podium with no limp whatsoever. Here is what he said.

"We'll see how it is when the adrenaline wears off but honestly I was just talking to the staff and It feels better right now. A lot better than I was expecting. Playing today gives me an extra half a day to rest the ankle. I'll get right into treatment tonight so I can be as close to one hundred percent as possible".

The MRI and how he feels tomorrow will be important but right now here are the facts.

1. X-rays were negative

2. Played the entire second half

3. Had no walking boot or wrap post game

4. Is walking with no limp now

5. Says he feels better

If the MRI comes back clean and his ankle doesn't react badly tomorrow imo there's a good chance he nay have escaped a huge bullet like Daniel Jones and Trevor Lawrence did earlier in the season.

Bump 01-21-2023 10:25 PM

He's like the Michael Jordan with a little bit of Larry Bird of football (only he doesn't talk nearly as much trash). I'm not saying that like I was saying that Pacheco is like a Barry Sanders/Earl Cambell type of running back as a meme. I mean that seriously. Mahomes is the God of football.

Sounds like he was just dealing with a ****load of pain and, in true gumby fashion, his ligaments morphed back into shape post haste.

Re-injury might be the biggest concern going forward.

jerryaldini 01-21-2023 10:32 PM

Amazing he didn't even stay down after the hit. Think soccer.

This week will be the most amount of resources, $$$, technology, and medicine that has ever gone into rehabbing an ankle sprain. I hope it works out and, if so, would make for a great documentary down the road.

Reading this reminded me of the story behind the invention of the flak jacket. Oilers QB Dan Pastorini injured his ribs against the Steelers, missed several games and spent several days in the hospital.

During his inpatient stay:

Quote:

Several days later, while lying in his hospital bed, someone unexpectedly knocked on the door. Pastorini said in walked two men—one carrying a medium-size brown paper bag and the other a baseball bat.

“I was thinking the two men had bet the ranch on the game and they were going to pummel me to death and take me out inside the bag,” he joked.

Instead, the man, Byron Donzis, took the never-before-seen flak jacket out of the paper bag and placed it up against his chest. The man with the bat then stepped up and proceeded to whack Donzis and his protected chest three or four times with no ill-effect.

Quote:

Armed with military-grade protection, Pastorini returned to the Oilers lineup three weeks later and guided the team to a 17-9 victory over the Dolphins in the league’s first-ever Wild Card round. The following week the Oilers upended the New England Patriots advancing to the AFC Championship. In both contests, Pastorini said he knew the opposing defenses were targeting his ribs and testing out his new protective gear.

“They hit it. And then they looked at me and said, I guess it works,” he laughed.

The Oilers lost in the AFC Championship game to the same Steelers team that had injured Pastorini a month earlier. But in defeat, Pastorini had won. He achieved victory just in his ability to play despite three broken ribs. All quarterbacks that followed like Peyton Manning won as well.

He definitely won't be 100% though, and that's a bummer. His ability to scramble and run for first downs is obviously importart. He can still get it done and I wouldn't bet against him.

It was bad enough he sat out for a long drive and then he hopped on one leg for a first down?

I'm expecting him to play and I'll be pleasantly surprised to see him have any more mobility than old man Brady.

When he went out with an injury, it felt like one of my own kids got hurt. I didn't even think about the Chief's season impact, I just wanted him to be okay. My friend had a co-worker sitting in a suite. The rumor was-Mahomes had a fractured Tibia- his season was over. It was a gut punch.

Then he comes out of the locker room, throws his coat off like Superman, and wins the game for us. Amazing!

nychief 01-22-2023 05:19 AM

Agreed. There's no way in hell he will be able to do much if it is truly a high-ankle sprain.

My concern is if he does play, his instincts take over for a play here and there. You saw it on the one play yesterday when he tried scrambling a little and clearly shouldn't have been.

Also, I'm not a doctor but I'd assume if he takes one bad hit to that knee it could seriously damage it long-term. I just hope the Chiefs are smart here. Mahomes is a very competitive person. Don't let him play if he shouldn't. Sometimes you have to protect players from themselves. Henne is capable.

That said, from what I heard so far everything seems like Mahomes will be good to go. Have to wait and see.

Yup. My guess is that he’ll be dealing with significant swelling this week along with plenty of pain. The truth of the matter is that Mahomes shouldn’t be playing if his injury is what’s being reported. His long term health is far more important and it ****ing blows to acknowledge it, given that once again we’re in the AFCCG. I feel so bad for him because he’s such a warrior, but Andy has to do what’s right here and I trust he will. We need a miracle.

I see about a 0% chance Reid doesn’t let him play. It will take the training staff to force this one.

Pretty much dependant on what the MRI shows. If the ligaments are already badly damaged then yeah, playing on it has the possibility of making that ankle unstable going forward.

SupDock 01-22-2023 08:34 AM

Mac Jones missed 3 games
Daniel Jones didn’t miss any
Baker Mayfield missed 2 games
Ryan Tannehill missed 1 game then Reinjured
Trevor Lawrence had a mild one and don’t miss time

I think he will be limited, but might be feeling pretty good by the Super Bowl.

DTHOF 01-22-2023 08:40 AM

Mac Jones was crying like a bitch when his happened. Mahommes played on it for a half. It is about pain tolerance and want to.

Bl00dyBizkitz 01-22-2023 08:50 AM

Mahomes is gonna need to pull a 2010 Kobe Bryant when he was playing with a broken finger on his dominant shooting hand.

Wisconsin_Chief 01-22-2023 08:52 AM

It's really going to come down to one single question; will continuing to play on it this season risk any more severe damage in the future?

If the doctors say that isn't a concern, and it's just about pain tolerance, it would take the Chiefs organization calling in the National Guard to keep Mahomes off the field. He would play with a bone sticking out of his leg if they let him.

There is no other QB in football who takes that hit and doesn't break his ankle, not to mention continue playing and even throw another TD. This guy is truly built different. He's underappreciated by this league, one of the last true warriors left in the game of football. They need to stop trying to prop others up to his level and recognize him as the legend he already is.

Rainbarrel 01-22-2023 08:54 AM

The other defense has to plan for a different Mahomes, Henne and Buechele. It can be used

I'm reminded of the freaky play against Tampa earlier this season. It was both a magical TD pass as well as magical escape from injury. That play featured a similar looking potential injury where his ankle & knee were in a very bad position under the weight of a defender. Somehow he got up from that Tampa one without any trouble.

But it's true...In my 30s I got a high ankle sprain from broadcast spreading high-potassium fertilizer around my Swiss Chard, hurt like HELL. That same afternoon, I was able to tape it up, put on hte orthopedic socks, and compete like hell at my daughter's school carnival and barely won the pie-eating contest AND foolowed it up with The Worm. Painful. Mine sure was. And it was not right for weeks. He's going to get the best possible treatment so maybe he can manage it with minimal pain.

As soon as Brittany stops raping him, he'll heal up

At least it wasn't his knee but he won't be right the rest of the way. Sucks but hopefully if we get to the SB that extra 2 weeks will help alot

I'm gonna need more stories of people who sprained their ankles.

Didn't Pat destroy the Bills a couple of years back in the playoffs having turf toe?

When I saw the replays, I was actually more worried about an MCL injury than an ankle. Hopefully this is just a sprain that swells up for a couple of days and gets much more manageable throughout the week.

Turf toe and coming off the concussion scare vs Cleveland.

Mac Jones missed 3 weeks with his high ankle sprain, came back and started against the Bears and only could last 3 series.

If Mahomes plays he is a tough SOB

Chieftain 01-22-2023 11:51 AM

A pocket Mahomes can be even more deadly in terms of efficiency. It will make the OL play with more urgency to protect him and the defense to be on their toes as well.

He already played an entire second half. Mac Jones is a pussy ass bitch so of course he wasn't gonna suit up to play.

He was struggling on those handoff plays that required more steps to get to the RB. I am curious to see how that goes moving forward. In addition to the run game, they will need to focus on getting the ball out quickly so he’s not scrambling around to avoid pass rushers.
