Nonetheless, thanks Mecole. The Houston game in and of itself was worth the pick. We shit that game away and I would have been devastated. Otherwise, he made a hell of a lot of plays for us, good luck, beat that Cheatriot ass for us will you?

Wouldn't mind seeing him run by the slow Buffalo secondary.

Don’t forget drops, bad routes, and running out of bounds when he could have scored the winning TD against Buffalo in OT.

A low 2nd for Elijah Moore and a low 3rd? I'd have done that all day. I'd have given up our 2nd for Moore and a 4th.

Huh? The Browns gave up 42 (which is not a low 2nd) for Moore and a 3rd.

Cleveland has made a ton of good moves this year.

WR room is stacked now with Cooper, Peoples-Jones and Moore as the starting 3. David Bell was a 3rd rounder last year that could develop more.

They added Dalvin Tomlinson at DT, Ogbo Okoronkwo at DE, and Thornhill at FS.

And they will have Watson all year.

On paper, they got alot better.

I'm starting to wonder if the Chiefs have interest in any WR.

I'll take the 1996 Chiefs WR corps over this group.

It's very odd, but you have to believe they have a plan. For all we know they end up with D-Hop and draft a WR high. They always seem to come through in the end, either by 7th round RBs stepping up or 4th & 7th round corners playing like solid veterans when you think you have a glaring hole at the position.

I'm still optimistic.

Yeah, it's early. Just been a strange offseason with several receivers leaving and nobody replaced. Last year they traded Tyreek but replaced him with Juju and MVS. I like Toney but he's got Anthony Davis' like durability. Maybe Moore turns the corner and plays more as a WR this year. He wasn't used much last season. MVS hasn't really been a #1 WR. Juju wasn't a true #1 but he put up good numbers last year. Hardman played about half a year and was replaceable as they showed over the second half.

MVS will never be a WR1. He's too limited. He's really a 3.

JuJu likewise, never a 1. He's a middling but solid 2.

Hardman I think was supposed to be WR3, but Toney kind of took that over, because KT is just a more talented receiver.

Right now, there's no one on the team that can fill JuJu's role of possession receiver. Skyy might end up filling that role, except that he has to learn to read zone.

smithandrew051 03-22-2023 02:33 PM

If the Jets land Rodgers, can I bet on Hardman saying that Rodgers is the best QB he’s ever played with? Sounds like easy money.

If? I think we're past 'if.' NYJ has banked everything on landing Rodgers. Just a question of when they announce it.

And of course Hardman will say something like that. It's boilerplate rhetoric.

Well, if we go by history, Veach/Andy will end up signing a veteran WR, basically a prototypical guy with good/great hands that can run the full route tree, and draft at least one WR. Possibly two, or a WR and a TE.

If we go by anything else, we're not signing a vet WR, installing a WR that hasn't played in half his scheduled games due to recurring injuries, and relying on pure hope that the other 2nd year guy will suddenly blossom into JuJu 2.0. Oh, and the Ross twins.

Take you pick. Your guess is as good as mine.

Veach: You've accomplished a metric crap-ton since you've been here Patrick. What records are you looking to break in 2023?
Mahomes: Well, I saw that Alex had a season where he didn't throw a TD pass to a WR. I'd like to do that through the playoffs and Super Bowl.
Veach: Oh. Uh, well... I can certainly spend that money elsewhere.

Rasputin 03-22-2023 02:50 PM

I knew it was wishful thinking we'd bring him back but I wish Mecole Hardman great success with his new team. Very under underupreciated as a Chief. Most under rated player.

Monticore 03-22-2023 02:51 PM

Always loved his potential but it just didn’t translate into production and I don’t think it ever will , Wilson is going to be a target hog and Lazard will get his , he is going to be a really one player on a lesser team , his next contract will be for less.

Eh, maybe not so much. He was only getting 3-4 targets/gm in KC. If he slides into that WR3 spot since Moore left, he might see twice that as a Jet.

Maybe because he was only getting 3-4 touches a game. And running 4-5 jet-sweep motions/orbitals a game. So running 4-5 25-yard windsprints per game to only get 3-4 touches. And several times he got fewer than that, in spite of the fact that he was catching the ball at about a 75% rate, he wasn't getting an increase in targets. Never going to get a big contract only touching the ball 3-4 times a game.

Hoover 03-22-2023 03:08 PM

At some point that’s probably on him , 4 years in and I can’t really say he is that much better than he was as a rookie .

scho63 03-22-2023 03:42 PM

Hardman had his moments, including the KO return when we were down 24-0 to the Texans, but overall he was a big letdown frm what was expected.

He does have super speed on those jet sweeps and incredible acceleration that I will miss.

RunKC 03-22-2023 03:42 PM

I disagree. He did improve over his time in KC. His route tree expanded, he got better at his releases, he got better at improving when Pat scrambled, his catch rate improved by 10% from Year 1 to Year 4, and his scoring improved.

But his number of targets pretty much stayed the same.

Now, in 2022 it looked like he was going to be featured more, but injuries derailed that possibility. But in the 8 games he played, he showed that he could run more routes and that he could reliably find the soft spots in zone, and that he could make big catches in big moments, and that he could catch the ball under duress. Was he ever going to be the 2nd target behind Kelce? Probably not. But to say that he never got better as a WR just isn't the case.

JPH83 03-22-2023 03:53 PM

I gotta be honest, I had a soft spot for Hardman. Always seemed like a positive guy and good teammate. He didn't complain when he was here even if he was frustrated. At that cost I'd have honestly loved him back, I think it's good value. It just seems like he genuinely wants to prove himself a more complete player somewhere else. Not sure it'll work out how he expects but good luck to him.

Wilson8 03-22-2023 04:17 PM

The Mecole Hardman free agent signing by the Jets was kind of related to Cleveland.

Jets trade WR Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns in an exchange of day 2 draft picks.

srvy 03-22-2023 04:20 PM

So we are going to have a 15-page mega thread over losing Hardman? A simple thanks for your service thou laking you got rings. Good Luck watch the door on the back sweep.

hawkchief 03-22-2023 04:21 PM

Into what? He was basically a gadget player.

Not sure what Veach saw in him over D.K. Metcalf, who ran the same 40 dash time but happens to be bigger than a house. I suppose we don't win more than two Super Bowls with Metcalf, but having him on the roster would have been something these last few years. I believe Seattle extended him last season in his final year. The Chiefs would likely have done the same or traded him for a crapload of picks.

That can't be. He was injured several times despite a light workload. Imagine him getting 5 or 6 touches per game.

It's definitely time to hit the panic button. It's already March 22!! I just wish there were any possibility of improving the roster between now and the start of the season. Too bad there isn't some kind of way to get some of those good college players onto the team. Or maybe there should be an option of trading either picks or players for someone. That would make me worry a lot less.

Pablo 03-22-2023 04:43 PM

Nah. There's the Ross brothers, check out their stats for the last four years in the NFL. Plus, you saw that pass to himself Pat converted for a first down. That's the plan going forward. Pat throws to himself 5-7 time a game. Then he'll target Travis 225 times in 2023. It'll be the first time a TE goes over 2,000 yards and 20 TDs. Pacheco will grab about 75 balls. Who needs WRs?
