I always thought the Chiefs should have signed Tyreek to 2 million a year, and after he retired he could make 30 million a year as the janitor or a consultant.

Hard salary cap, coupled with an equally hard salary floor. Owners can't be cheap or simply buy all good players. Parity increases, smaller revenue teams have a better shot and playing relevant games later into the season, potentially more eyes on the games translating to better ad revenue.
