chiefzilla1501 12-10-2023 08:32 PM

We are still good enough to win this. But we will need to open up every trick in our bag. At our worst we’re still very good.

What I’m optimistic about is that once we get through this season we’re going to go nuclear on offense. And really with rice emerging as he has we’re only 1-2 weapons away from making a giant leap on offense.

Other bright side is wanya while still needing work may be good enough to build around closing one major need this offseason

I would like to think this team is still good enough to win it all, but I just don’t know. I think the defense is championship caliber, but the offense should be better than it currently is. For the first time in the Mahomes era I do not have 100% confidence this offense can hold up their end.

He hasn't looked this decent since early in his rookie year, he probably averaged 4 or so yards a pop tonight

InChiefsHeaven 12-10-2023 09:04 PM

This team won today, except they didn't. I hate blaming the refs, but goddam...it reminds me of 2018. Technically correct call, but ticky tacky as ****. I dunno...he should see that he's off sides, but it's not like he was WAY offsides.

**** it. We were playing a team that was desperate, you can't make any mistakes. This just sucks. **** it.

As ticky tack as the call was I just can’t blame the refs. The Chiefs had two costly turnovers as well. Honestly though heat of the moment penalties are one thing. Lining up offsides is another. That’s pre snap and should NEVER happen as it’s too preventable. That should never be so close that a ref has to make a judgement call.

At our worst we still have a shot. I’ve been plenty vocal about my frustration that a little effort with WRs makes such a dramatic difference. But I don’t want to lose sight of how lucky we are or that even at our worst we’re still really good. You look at a team like the chargers and realize how bad it can be even when you think you have it really good

Simply put this team has had such unprecedented success over the past 5 years that it (and some “fans” on here) is struggling with adversity right now. The WRs did not develop as hoped and that is hurting the offense. One thing that is always common is that when a team loses, fans blame the refs. They notice the calls against their team, but overlook ones that were not called that benefit them. At the end of the day Toney could have been a foot farther back and we are celebrating a much needed win. He did not and here we are.

UteChief 12-10-2023 09:17 PM

Four regular season games left to get stuff worked out. Rice has come on, can any one else join him? I’m pretty sure the Chiefs will be in the playoffs.

FYP. This is ridiculous. It is. But whatever.

The play that will never be counted now was legendary, and it was negated by a call that could have just as easily been ignored. Pat has it right. So did Andy. It's an embarassment to the league. If he was offsides, the play should have been blown dead.

**** that. The Chiefs got robbed. But we'll be back. We have a positive schedule and a pissed off Pat. NFL be warned...

But they shouldn’t have ignored it. In hindsight it negated an amazing play, but the flag was thrown well before it. KC wasn’t robbed by the refs. Toney was offsides. Just like Ford, those are inexcusable penalties that should never happen, especially for a WR.

Here is my positive spin...

-Extreme public outrage about the Chiefs WR room and Veach sees it.
-Veach allows Chris Jones to go to another team so we can avoid that mess of a salary.
-Veach goes hard this offseason to fix the WR's with all of the money he saved.
= Profit 2025

Wallcrawler 12-10-2023 10:41 PM

This is what the third straight solid to above solid rookie class in a row? I genuinely think the WR position wasn’t addressed as much as it could have been because Reid/Mahomes thought they would be good and Veach believed them. If he attacks offensive skill positions like he did other areas of weakness with his track record this team will be sitting pretty moving forward.

That’s like my biggest wish. I know I post this a lot but going back to back while we still have Kelce and Jones would be huge for me. 3 rings. A back to back for the first time in 20 years. A dynasty that isn’t over but one that is definitely established.

Would be an amazing send off for the two of them and I would be okay having a few off years after that.

CupidStunt 12-11-2023 06:10 AM

Maybe I'm just a contrarian. When everyone was happy (most of the first half of the season), I had my concerns. And now, while everyone is losing their minds, I'm not really phased at all. To me, they absolutely should've won the Eagles and Bills games (never mind the Lions game) -- despite playing far below their potential -- and it gives me confidence that if KC simply hangs on to a couple passes and doesn't make OUTRAGEOUSLY FLUKY mistakes, they're gonna win when it matters.

No, they're not the 9ers or really any of our recent teams. And I've totally given up on the 1 seed. But the idea that they'll lose to some garbage wildcard 6 seed? Nah, I'm not seeing that at all. Everyone's making the same mistake as usual: treating a team at its worst as if that IS the team. But come January, I'll put my money on Mahomes and the rest of the guys stepping up.

irafreak 12-11-2023 06:56 AM

Minus one on the turnover ratio against a motivated bills team off the buy and again lost because of our mistakes. I can see us easily winning the last 4 and gaining some momentum heading into the post season. With this defense, we have a chance.

Yeah I don’t want it to go down this way. But as I’ve said all year I feel like the chiefs take mahomes and kelce for granted. We won’t anymore. And I’m crazy excited about what this offense is gonna look like with veach and Reid motivated as hell to improve it. For now, I’ll just hope for the best. Even if we turn things around I don’t think there’s any doubt the front office has a clear message that they need offensive weapons this offseason.

PunkinDrublic 12-11-2023 07:25 AM

I mean the schedule lightens up significantly and none of these AFC teams are running away with it. It’s deeply disturbing to see the offense not being able to execute on game winning drives.

chiefzilla1501 12-11-2023 07:48 AM

It reminds me of the days with grandpa bob on defense. I never ever root for this team to fail. But there was also the sense that if dee ford lined up onside we may have held on to Sutton. Shudder. I still don’t want this WR room to fail but I also don’t want the message to be lost that we can’t keep doing this shit to mahomes and kelce.

I think you see mahomes pound the table and demand veach make some moves. I wonder if kelce threatens retirement if we don’t get him help. So yeah I’m in this grandpa bob moment where I’m furious where we’re at while at the same time relieved and excited that we have a fire lit.

ShortRoundChief 12-11-2023 07:55 AM

I was delighted to see the focus was going to Rice and Travis. I also liked that our defense fought back after giving up 2 early touchdowns.

Rainbarrel 12-11-2023 08:25 AM

Bills dropped from #13 to #17 in draft, McDermott's job was saved. Chiefs though stay at #25

Fat Elvis 12-11-2023 08:31 AM

At the same time that KC receivers lead the league in dropped balls, Mahomes is still on pace for his highest career completion percentage.....

Calcountry 12-11-2023 08:32 AM

Hardman and Ross are out and Richie James is back. Moore getting 11 snaps is down from what he usually gets so it looks like they are giving other guys a chance to step up or maybe simplifying things for moore.

RunKC 12-11-2023 11:38 AM

Not giving up on the season. They are losing these games on singular plays that don't go our way. Toney has 2 and MVS has 1.

It's not like this team is getting curb stomped like the Eagles have in back-to-back games. The 49ers also lost 3 in a row and the sky was falling.

The only games they deserved to lose bc of being completely outclassed were Denver and GB. And even those games we were in it in the 4th quarter

The last time they had the ball they burned 14 seconds off the clock. Toney literally saved McDickhead yet another 4th quarter mismanagement of the clock. Not running the ball once in 3 plays was as big of a mistake as Toney lining up offsides. It should have cost them the game, but the league is tired of KC, and Toney is a butt****ing moron.

It helped but wouldn't have cost them the game. We had 2 timeouts and the 2 minute warning. If Toney isn't flaged we scored with 1:12 left....

Now that I've sobered up and calmed down, (I should never post right after a game like that) I can concede that the refs made the right call, Toney lined up stupid and he was indeed off sides. It wasn't even close, he was way the **** off. I wish the ref would not have thrown it, and honestly if he doesn't throw it, I doubt there would a huge "Holy Shit Toney was way offsides on that play" reaction after the TD.

Meh. This team is better than it's record, and hopefully with the lighter schedule upcoming they can get the wins they need and get their shit together. We've never seen this type of adversity in the Mahomes era, so it's just weird and frustrating.
