You are probably right.

It's alot deeper than that. The have a deadpool poster featuring T Swift's friendship bracelets. 90% of Swifties were convinced that she was going to be the Dazzler in this film, due to what you mentioned plus many "Easter Eggs" left by Swift.

And now it's all but confirmed that she won't be in it. My guess is she'll be in a post credits scene talking to DP/Ryan saying something like "They thought what? And while I'm on a world tour?" I really think it'll be something close to that based on how hard they're making us think she'll be in the actual movie. Even with the blonde hair on the above poster.

I've decided to go see this the second weekend it's out. This might be a huge mistake, because it's going to be a real bitch trying to avoid spoilers online and in person for a week.

This flick is going to be massive. Absolutely huge.

Dafne Keen was looking pretty hot there towards the end of the trailer.

I got to see it last night. It's amazing. Go see it. Go see it two or three times.

I'll save the spoilers until after the official release, because everyone deserves to go into this as un-spoiled as humanly possible.

staylor26 07-25-2024 10:03 PM

Amazing movie. Absolutely hilarious. Cameos were perfect and I enjoyed every minute. Best MCU movie/show since Infinity War IMO.

Nirvana58 07-26-2024 12:27 AM

Pretty good. Definitely a movie that needs to be watched multiple times. Went in completely blind so was surprised by all the cameos.

Need to rewatch the first and second to rank them. But wife loved it and already stated this is her favorite.

Sassy Squatch 07-26-2024 10:23 PM

Meh. Started off really strong but fell off. Should say I'm not an X Men/Fantastic 4 guy so I probably missed quite a bit about what was going on. Middle of the film in particular I was completely ****ing lost.

DaFace 07-27-2024 08:07 AM

Plot wise, I don't think it was particularly strong. Shit tons of hilarious fan service, though. It's a good time.

It was almost purely fan service, and a farewell to the Fox Marvel Universe. For what it tried to be, it was almost perfect.

Plus, we get Deadpool, Wolverine and X-23* in the MCU now. Win-win!

*anybody else I'm forgetting?

arrowheadnation 07-28-2024 01:15 PM

We had some in our party who were familiar with Deadpool and a general understanding of the Fox X-men movies but no knowledge of any of the other Fox super hero movies and they didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the rest of us. If you’re planning on going to see it, take that as a hint.

Exactly my experience. Once they shifted towards focusing on all the Fox characters I was pretty lost. Had no clue who most of them even were so the references went over my head and the jokes didn't land nearly as well for me. Couple that with a pretty lackluster story even for Marvel standards and it was starting to drag hard.

I bet we get the Fox X-Men in the comic suits in Secret Wars.

I was a little, disappointed is too strong a word, but let down I guess, that they didn't take the opportunity to explain away or at least acknowledge that the X-Men movie continuity makes no goddamn sense. Even if you ignore everything else, how do the Deadpool movies fit with Logan?

I’d be lying if I said I understood the X-Men film continuity. I’ve read that the Days of Future Past reset the timeline to where Origins never happened. Beyond that, it all makes little sense to me.

CoMoChief 07-28-2024 06:32 PM

Best opening scene ever....well in MCU at least.

Laughed my ass off. Been a while since a movie has made me laugh that hard.

Highly entertaining. Glad this movie was finally made.

It doesn't make sense to anybody. I think it would have been a cool meta idea if the TVA wanted to destroy the X-Men universe because of the continuity errors. Like time travel has created so many contradictions and paradoxes that the universe is tearing itself apart.

Kevin Smith's review

DCTwister 07-29-2024 07:36 AM

Saw it yesterday. Brief spoiler-free impressions:
- Pretty good overall. Worth a watch.
- Plot was a hot mess so I’d rate it has 3rd best of the Deadpool movies
- Personally, my son and I would rate it like an “80%” on a Rotten Tomatoes magnitude scale vs. 95% for Deadpool 1 and 2. But a good movie that we enjoyed. Lots of jokes about drugs, gay sex, violence of course, and all the normal things in the Deadpool genre.
- Cameos were cool but most of those characters I didn’t care much about
- As others have stated, it helps to have seen the Loki series for background context
Overall, it’s a win.

Bob Dole 07-30-2024 01:13 PM

FYI, I'm watching a good quality theater filmed version that somehow made it to YouTube at the moment.

ToxSocks 07-31-2024 11:05 AM

Welp, just bought my tickets for a showing tonight. 830 PM in what's already a packed house.

Going to our local favorite AMC with the reclining chairs and over priced alcoholic drinks.

A Salt Weapon 08-01-2024 01:28 AM

Just watched it tonight. Very entertaining and they did a good job incorporating the TVA into it.

ToxSocks 08-01-2024 02:03 PM

I thought it was fantastic. I laughed. Loved the action sequences. Loved the violence. I thought it was great all around.

Absolutely worth the hype.

BigRedChief 08-01-2024 10:46 PM

I think somes enj0yment of the movie is they didn't see the other stuff needed to enjoy the movie. What the hell is a TVA? You didnt see Loki, your lost. They don't take time to explain everything. Didn't see Blade movies or forgot? Again, you'll be lost.

It has $600 million in global box office in two weeks so some are enjoying just fine. You don't make that kind of money without people seeing it more than once.

I can’t stand superhero movies but as a guy who still prefers the theater experience, I’m glad to see this movie doing well and keeping theaters open.

Wallcrawler 08-03-2024 11:34 AM

Watched it more as a Wolverine fan than a Deadpool fan. Just to see Wolverine tear ass in another R rated film, except this time not old, slow, and borderline worthless due to him being gimped by old age and adamantium poisoning.

It delivered on that quite nicely. Opening sequence, shitty soundtrack notwithstanding, probably the best opening to any Marvel film I've seen.

I'll buy it when it releases, it will probably be my new "background noise" movie I put on when doing things around the house.

Hope Jackman sticks around for a couple more films, he's still got it even at 55.

I always sit through the credits and don't remember this in the theaters. I also just watched my copy of the movie that I have and it isn't there. I sat through 10 minutes of credits just to confirm there is no scene with Deadpool killing a Hitler baby. I am thinking you saw this is some sort of directors cut or something.

Man - critics that are panning this movie....uh...what were you expecting?

This was EXACTLY what I'd have expected from this movie. And no, it's not easy access to understand everything that's going on. There is a clear barrier to entry that spans decades and gets really meta.

There are a dozen references that go back to the mid/late 90s and fights on set (Reynolds and Snipes didn't get along in Trinity, for instance). But it's a Deadpool movie! That's the point!

I loved it. My wife, who isn't a comic book kid and didn't even know who Gambit is, liked the movie (because she's seen the Deadpool movies and the newer X-Men movies). But c'mon - this was exactly the sort of goofy, grinning at the camera, self-aware gore-fest shit you'd expect from the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool universe.

And Hugh Jackman friggen killed it. Cassandra Nova seemed like she was in the wrong movie but Jackman hit a perfect balance of serious and cheesy.

Yeah i don't get it either. It was everything it was ever meant to be. My wife said she laughed more in the first two movies. Which....thinking back on it, ok...sure, fine. Maybe they were a little funnier.

But where this movie fell short on humor (in comparison to the first two, because it was certainly not short on humor) it made up for in gorish violence and fan service.

I grew up a Gambit fan boy when it came to the X-Men universe. So of course i was freakin' excited about that. And they freakin' nailed the character too.

I friggen loved Gambit growing up.

I had to explain to my wife that Gambit can essentially charge anything and the deck of cards is essentially a magazine that he carries because he can aim them well and they're compact.

I do think that Channing Tatum is a little too bulky for the character, though (and yeah, I know the story behind him in the role; I just don't think he's right for it).

I thought they could've done more with the character. Gambit can do some cool shit; the comics really explore the space with that character really well. Whereas the movie just had him whipping playing cards.

I thought it was better than Deadpool 2, though I may have to watch that one again. I've only seen it once and remember thinking it fell well short of the first one. I was a little disappointed by it - not by this.

This was exactly what I was wanting from this movie. It did was Deadpool always does and belabors the point a bit -- every joke/bit is a couple beats too long. But again, what the hell did you expect?

To be fair, it's got a 79% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it's not like that's the prevailing opinion even from critics.
