That's actually a huge upgrade.

He lost his job to Taylor Heinicke after breaking a finger in a win over the Bears at Soldier Field in mid-October. The Commanders, who were 2-4 under Wentz, went 4-1 under Heinicke, who remained the starter after Wentz was healthy. |
As long as they didn’t give him much, it’s a good signing.
|
I love it… this dude was legit early in his career… injuries derailed him a bit, I believe…. But hell yeah, love this move.
|
Thank God. The idea of Gabbert stepping onto the field in a meaningful game terrified me.

Carson Wentz led the NFL in QBR in 2017. He's 20th among active NFL QBs in passer rating. He had a 27 TD to 7 INT ratio in his last full season as a starter in 2021.
Is he the best backup QB this franchise has had since Rich Gannon? |
our backup is better than 1/3 of starting quarterbacks in the league.

And this type of move is one we should have been looking to make the last 5 years. We should always be looking for a b/u QB that's capable of winning 50% of the games they start. That's the b/u QB's job -- just keep things floating until the boss gets back. You don't have to win anything but just don't lose it. |

But also Nick Foles for that one year. |
Carson Wentz grovels at the feet of the man who rebuilt the man who ruined his career. Andy takes pity.
|
I dunno, I remember early on in his career he was pretty good. Just often injured. I saw him at Arrowhead get beat by the Chiefs, but I remember thinking that dude is big and has a cannon. That was the game where Kelce Superman dove from the 5 yard line and landed on the Eagles player which carried him into the endzone. Epic.
This ain't the worst backup QB signing... |

I like it. Reid will do wonders for him IMHO as long as he is willing to listen and put in the work.
|
Did they say how much the contract is for I doubt he signed for cheap knowing he has no shot at starting

But will he be as good as Chad Henne?

He's joining a dynasty team coming off back to back superbowls. This dude has nothing to say, except thanks for the free game checks. Wentz will be quiet as a church mouse. He's playing behind the best qb that ever lived. He can say nothing, he can question nothing. He will keep his head down, work, and do as he's told, and he will get himself another pine riding Superbowl ring. |

As has been beaten with a dead horse, way better player than Gabbert. The kind of guy who can keep you afloat for some games, if necessary.
I couldn't do any more Gabbert. Good move. |
Yeah, nice move.
Say Pat goes down for a game or two, Wentz can come in and actually play well. Hell...it's to bad it's just a 1 year deal or we could parlay that into a trade if it came to fruition. |
Quote:
If he has to play and plays well, that'll be good enough for me. |
The downside is Prince Harry is his doppelganger
|
Great signing! Now, I hope he only has to see the field in blowouts and in Week 18.

The only Chiefs fans that are mad about this are Missouri fans

I am OK with this.

Ideal guy to bring in. I'd feel comfortable with Wentz if he were ever needed. Gabbert, not so much.
|
LOL. He's better than Blaine.
|
CEH & Dobbins are pulling more hits. Up your game ginger fitz
|
Is Schultz sure he's the backup???
|
So far we've gotten the FA WR and QB I was hoping for. That never happens.

Love it, Buh-bye Gabbert.

Wentz seemed locked in at NDSU and in the draft process and in Philly until his first injury.
He did not seem bad until Jadeveon Clowney did that malicious intending to cause injury bullshit to get him our of the playoff game versus Seahawks. Seemed to me, that Eagles were winning that game and could be competitive in the divisional if Clowney had not pulled that shit. Wentz seemed lost after that. |
Wentz is going to bring back the QB sneak play for the Chiefs.
|
This is such a beyond great signing. God forbid Mahomes goes down, but Reid could legitimately lead this team to the playoffs with Wentz playing most of the season, and that’s the first time we’ve been able to say that about our backup.
|
Great back up option.

Gabbert's performance against Iowa in the bowl game was shockingly good and made him a 1st round pick, but he even ****ed that game up with a terrible interception late in the game. I am proud that he kept at it and stayed in the NFL a long time, but Gabbert did not really play great at Mizzou. |

Mahomes is too competitive to go along with being taken out of play so that Wentz could run a QB sneak and Andy Reid understands Mahomes leadership and personality. |

Put Wentz in the line-up for these type of plays and you have someone who can QB sneak it or throw it. Pretty sure Mahomes would be okay with that, since the Chiefs have already been running these type of plays. |

Love this signing. I’ve watched Wentz play since he was in high school and then at NDSU. Dude is a competitor to the tenth degree

Gabbert got 1.3. They wanted this guy about twice as much(not good at math)
|
That seems high.
|
Just wanted to say I LOVE this move, if Andy can rebuild this dudes confidence we have the best backup in the league
|

He’s well worth that price. Honestly, Andy would make this a playoff team with Wentz at QB.
