I'm not Pete, but the home plate umpire was terrible. If Lugo got the calls the Yankees got, he cruises through this one. He got squeezed. That first strike to MJ was 8 inches out of the zone.

srvy 06-10-2024 08:34 PM

We will get them tomorrow.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 06-10-2024 08:35 PM

That home plate umpire should be EMBARRASSED. Absolutely piss poor from start to finish.

WhawhaWhat 06-10-2024 08:40 PM

1 extra base hit in the entire game which was from BWJ. Every other hit by both teams was a single.

Three bunts from the Yankees. Don't ever think I ever seen that from them.

Coach 06-10-2024 08:48 PM

That strike one in the 9th was a goddamn travesty.

But the real goddamn travesty is that 5 guys are batting near the Mendoza Line, and nothing appears to change that. Something is going to have to change. That stat line is not going to cut it, especially 2 of them currently OPS'ing below 70.

So, the Royals need to nut up and either demote them to Omaha or outright DFA, and find someone else who can at least do better.

Here we go...

Q could just chew ass on the players who aren't performing.

Al Bundy 06-10-2024 09:20 PM

MJ is just not good.

This was true tonight… times have changed when 1/4 the crowd seemed to be local Yankee fans.

The Renfroe injury really hurts. He'd been batting almost .300 with a 900 OPS for the last month. He'd really turned it around and filled one of those gaps. We just needed someone else to step up in the other corner spot and for Massey to get back in there, but I'm a fan of Loftin and he's been hitting well too. Hopefully Renfroe isn't out for a long time.

ChiTown 06-10-2024 09:24 PM

Renfroe fractured his left big toe. Damn

Why Not? 06-10-2024 09:26 PM

Y’all have some weird expectations. The Royals have been ass for most of the last decade. You think a good not even half a season is gonna get the stadium 90% filled with Royals fans vs the Yankees?

Get the Yankees here in late October and then let’s have a look. The fans will do their part.

Massey did some baseball activity today, which is a good sign. Need to teach Loftin to play OF. Right now (not including Massey) he’s the guy I want up in a clutch spot if it can’t be BWJ, Vinnie or Salvy (who is slumping but has the cred).

I addressed this nonsense in the main Royals thread

So far they are quite a bit better than both the 2014 and 2015 teams on offense. I'd say they are significantly better on D and those 14/15 defenses were great. We might even have better speed than those 14/15 teams. The starting pitching is about even with the 14/15 teams. The only thing that isn't the same or better is the bullpen. 14/15 bullpens were miles and miles ahead of this bullpen.

We need bullpen help. Probably 2 guys.

The offense is fine. It's one of the highest scoring in the entire ML. Some guys aren't great, but the great ones make up for it

Loftin did play OF coming up in the minors but he hasn't done it much the last couple years. At one point I thought he might be the next Merrifield type of player but maybe they don't want him doing it at the K. Not really sure.

It's also a bad year for offense in general. All teams have holes in their lineup.

It's always been hard to hit in the majors, but it's on another level of tough right now. Triple-A doesn't even really prepare batters for what the majors brings.
