As Floridaman says, he was brought in to play LT. No one knows what happened after that.

NFL insiders assuming that doesn't make it true.

well, maybe you want some quotes from the man himself on the subject?

Sassy Squatch 11-19-2024 11:32 AM

Then they signed a career LT in Donovan Smith and left Taylor at RT instead. Why is this complicated?

TwistedChief 11-19-2024 11:32 AM

Emphasis was on flexibility. Nothing was penciled in. They needed to get a competent tackle on the roster and Taylor was right there.

Quote:

“[Taylor] played right tackle in Florida predominantly,” said Veach. “He had some snaps at left tackle, played right tackle in the NFL. He’s a guy [who is] athletically — he’s long, [with] quick feet — [a] really, really efficient pass protector. I think it wasn’t a secret that once free agency started, a tackle was at the top of that list — and I think we have great flexibility with him. He certainly wants the opportunity to play left — but if we were to draft a left tackle, we know what Jawaan tape looks like at right tackle there — so excited to get him.”
Quote:

“Even though he was on the right side, I think he can transfer over to the left side,” said Reid. “He’s a really good athlete, and I think he’s excited about that. And that doesn’t mean he can’t play the right side. If you had another left tackle, he could play the right side. So he gives you flexibility. He probably could jump in at guard, and he’s smart. He probably could play center if he had to. He’s a pretty talented kid. Look forward to getting him in here. I think that was a great pickup by Brett.”

So exactly this. From the mouths of both Reid and Veach.

If he doesn’t get activated he can sign a futures deal with whoever he chooses once the season is over. If he is signed to the 53 he would be an exclusive rights FA , restricted only to sign with KC if/when they tender RFA and ERFA in March when the ‘25 league year starts. So yes, possibly a good rotation player for cheap and little to no bonus money involved

Only ever talks about the ability to play both sides.

It's very simple to see if you look at the time line:

Taylor signed and Veach talked about versatility
Draft happened and did not draft a starting OT
Signed Smith after draft to play LT

Veach went and got a very high graded pass protecting OT in Taylor and in interviews and reports Taylor started working on BOTH RT drops and LT drops to be ready for where ever Reid needed him.

NOW I do think Taylor should be throw over to LT but that would have already happened if Reid wanted it.

Was this a corresponding move to signing Thornton, or to take Pacheco off IR?

I think Powell was on the PS. I think they replaced 400 year old Powell with Thornton.

RunKC 11-20-2024 11:36 AM

This is why the Chiefs signed this kid. Kelce, Hopkins and Juju are not beating single coverage. They are purely zone beaters.

This is why getting Hollywood back will help immensely. And getting Pacheco back will help as well.

I wouldn’t mind if they tried to get this kid on the active roster next month.

Man they miss Rashee so badly. Worthy was the only one bringing juice to the offense. The rest of the weapons looked old and slow.

O.city 11-20-2024 11:44 AM

Just saw this on twitter. They're just so slow.

Sassy Squatch 11-20-2024 11:46 AM

I don't know, maybe give some of that work Rashee was getting to Hardman? It's the one thing he's actually decent at and we just don't use him.

It's getting pretty ****ing irritating seeing him barely get any snaps week to week when schlubs like Watson get as many as they do. Same with Steele and Perine.

Injuries have hurt this offense, but they really aren't doing themselves many favors either with the on field personnel rotations.

Sassy Squatch 11-20-2024 11:49 AM

Holy ****, Hardman has taken just over 100 snaps and has managed 14 targets on offense. Total. Moore took 82 before he got hurt. Justin Watson has over 400 snaps and has managed 20 targets.

Looked it up and Hardman played 13 snaps. If we're that slow, Hardman outside and Worthy in the slot should have made things difficult. (Or vice versa)

I've been thinking the same thing about their rotations, have to scratch your head at times with the groupings they send out.

RunKC 11-20-2024 11:55 AM

Personally think Worthy is playing Hardman’s role and there isn’t much else Hardman can do. Hardman has never been a good player in the slot. He doesn’t sell routes well and they love putting Hopkins and Kelce there for that reason.

Talked about this in another thread. They put Hardman in the backfield as a RB option and threw to him in the flat. Was his best play and ended up easily burning a LB down the sideline for 10+ yards.

Want to use him there more but at the same time they need the blocking to help the OL.

This is why Hollywood coming back will help so much. He’s really ****ing good in the slot and working the MOTF

Sassy Squatch 11-20-2024 11:59 AM

I dunno, have a really hard time buying that when Watson is taking over 400 snaps and has 20 targets. That's egregiously useless. Even if you just send Hardman streaking down the field so they can't play press man across the LOS, he can be more useful than that.

Hardman is a gadget guy. Have we thrown the deep ball to Hardman this year? I don’t think Hardman can tract a deep ball well or they at least don’t seem to use Hardman as deep threat. I see Tyquan Thornton more like MVS as far as the routes he can run. MVS ran a lot of deep routes and I can see Thornton playing that role as well. Thornton may have the same problem as MVS with questionable hands but I see adding Thornton as adding another player with a different skill set. I don’t think Thornton and Hardman have the same skill set. Hardman is a gadget guy with jet sweeps and stuff like that while Thornton will run more routes like MVS did. Hopefully Thornton can catch the ball but he may not even make the game day roster this year but we don’t have a lot of WRs signed for next year so this is probably, mostly a move for the future.

Been saying this about Watson for a while. Not sure why he's out there so much. He shouldn't be.

The most baffling thing is this is by choice. They have Worthy and they have Hardman... and technically will now have Thornton. There's really no excuse not to keep one of them out there to keep the defense honest.

Was going to say the same. We have speed elsewhere. Whether it's effectively utilised is another thing entirely
