Get Williams, mcduffie and Nelson out there and sit one of our safeties

xztop123 12-07-2024 11:30 PM

It’s very likely he’s not in any shape and we just wanted to see if he can run. But we may bring in another guy also if he doesn’t sign

RunKC 12-07-2024 11:53 PM

Kareem
Juju
Humphries
Hopkins
Possibly Nelson

We are 11-1 with these issues. Just unbelievable. The coaching staff is truly elite

Gary Cooper 12-08-2024 12:21 AM

I still get him and Phillip Gaines confused.

We are trying to get other players rings while still winning the sb every year. It's kind of a selfless act really.

This. We’re one injury away from Nazeeh being back out there a lot. Even if it takes 2 weeks to get into the lineup. We can’t afford to drop a game at this point.

This is probably my biggest takeaway this season. Injury luck has not been on our side to say the least, but Veach's efforts have kept us afloat. We'll see if it's enough to actually win another SB, but you can't say he hasn't done his best.

smithandrew051 12-08-2024 09:15 AM

I always found it funny that “Nelson Island” in the KC Metro (Shawnee, KS) is right by Deffenbaugh.

Well, yeah? Our situational defense at the end of games has been absolutely abysmal. Think it's 5 straight games now they've allowed a game tying or winning drive.

Won the coin flip against the Buccaneers to start OT and won on the first drive, special teams bailed them out against the Broncos, let the Bills score 2 TDs to close the game out on us, offense won on the last drive against the Panthers, and the Raiders went full reerun at the end.

The defense is in dire straits right now, and it's largely because our secondary as a whole is ****ing trash sans Watson. Even McDuffie is playing well below his typical standard having to play outside instead of in the slot.

The problem hasn’t been corner the last 2 games minus the one Nazeeh **** up vs LV.

It’s the safeties. Every one of them have been embarrassed in man coverage on blitzes.

Every blitz is a disaster bc they get burnt over and over again.

It's not really a question of how good he is compared to the rest of the league, it's how good is he compared to who he would be replacing, bumping down down the depth chart...

Yeah, it's not even comparing to our current starters, it's comparing against the scenario of one of our guys getting hurt and someone down the list suddenly playing a ton of snaps.

Based on what? He played at a competent level last season. That would be a slightly higher level of play than we’ve gotten from that slot.

Even when there is time to adjust to a poorly thrown ball, the safeties get burned.

Conner is probably your best coverage S considering he can also play a little CB. Signing Nelson allows you to put McDuffie in the slot and Conner in a true S role.

You ignoring this context and the issue at NB is quite odd considering you've been talking about how awful Conner has been for weeks.

He was pretty good last year in an outside press man role, which is exactly what we need.

Fixing NB will certainly help but it doesn’t change the fact that every safety has been an absolutely disaster in coverage the last month or so except Hicks (who hasn’t played that much).

They haven’t been just bad. They’ve been a full on disaster.

JFC.

You're being obtuse. Go back and read my post again. Conner playing more of a S role would absolutely help our issues at S. He's our best coverage S. He's just not a full time slot CB.

RealSNR 12-08-2024 12:46 PM

The Chiefs had the chance to bring back Mike Edwards twice this season and passed both times. That would seem to indicate they believe in their coverage safety personnel but currently can't put them in positions to succeed. Or something. I can't explain what this team does anymore, they just make it work.

Not really. Most players are beat up when they retire. It’s not like a regular gym goer not missing more than a few weeks at a gym even when sick.

A torn up athlete with years or surgeries just wants to lay back. Eat cake. Sometimes party and drink if they made money. Ect

There was another one earlier when Darnold's arm got hit as he threw deep and the pass become something of an arm punt. There were two Falcons around Addison who didn't know where the ball was, and he casually caught it and scored as one of the defenders fell down.

Yes.

Charmarri Conner blows right now because he is being asked to play slot and can't.

Nelson playing means McDuffie can go back to the slot.

UChieffyBugger 12-09-2024 04:07 PM

Really good move. Give him a two practice weeks to ramp up and hopefully he can play against his old team the Texans. Having him means we're gonna at least have two steady, reliable guys on the boundary and hopefully Trent can be freed up to do his thing and roam. Plus he's a guy who can take the ball away which could be a huge bonus moving forward.

Steven Nelson has been a legitimate starting corner for the last several years. Not elite, but solid to good.

He and Josh Williams outside with McDuffie inside is a pretty damn sticky trio, MUCH better than putting Nazeeh outside or Conner in the slot.

MUCH better. Nazeeh is small and barely has any experience playing in the NFL (he was mostly a special teams player before he got injured) and Connor was never a pure slot gut In college. So having two normal corners on the boundary who have lots of experience should hopefully garner way better results.
