I think Denver has to finish 2/3 to get that spot.

They've got the Chargers/Bengals/Chiefs to finish.

According to this simulator, they only need to win 1 more to make the playoffs.

I'm more curious than anything with how often he gets hit.

I've said for awhile that I think Mahomes is creating a lot of these hits on himself by just not being decisive and making 'big' movements in the pocket. But I could easily be wrong.

I don't know that I have any answers here - I just have a few theories. And Wentz under center for a game could prove/disprove some of those pretty easily.

It would do a bit to provide a clearer path forward. Or at least tell us if we even have any changes we can meaningfully make.

I am pretty sure Wentz and this offense would look terrible with our current OT play. We have a disaster at LT so bad we're playing a guard there. And our RT is playing worse than Andrew Wylie, the guy he was paid handsomely to replace.

I would be curious to see Wentz play a full game, but my expectation is that the offense would look just as bad if not worse.

Donovan Smith gave Mahomes just enough confidence to allow him to see the field and make quick decisions. Smith wasn't great, but he wouldn't get beat like a drum over and over. And he was savvy enough to just hold onto his guy if he was bested early. Mahomes knew that and counted on it.

People have been talking about the o line getting Mahomes killed since OBJ's first year here. It hasn't happened. In fact, most of his injuries have been outside the pocket, when he's trying to make a play after things broke down.

People need to stop being scared. This is Mahomes' team.

O.city 12-16-2024 10:44 AM

I'm kinda at the end of the rope with the "he's not confident" stuff with regards to the OL.

Yeah, sure, he's gotten hit. So has Josh Allen. And Joe Burrow. Lamar gets hit all the time.

That's what happens. You've gotta stand in there and take the bullets and be calm in the madness and throw the football.

I have had the opinion for a few years that he wants to run around and be a "playmaker" too much instead of throwing the ball on time where it's supposed to go. We've argued it alot, but shit......seems relevant now?

I think that the offense would change. Wentz does not have the mobility or escapability that Mahomes possesses. Therefore the offense would likely change to a more run, quick pass, play action type of offense.

Have any of those teams had to replace their starting LT with a Guard?

Confidence in the offensive line, especially the LT, is pretty damn important. I don't think there's a better explanation out there.

I would argue that's what we should have been doing all along.

I was watching the Lions/Bills game, and the biggest thing I took away from that was it sure would be nice if Mahomes had all day to throw, like Josh Allen.

That's exactly what we should be doing because it's pretty clear whatever we're doing now isn't really working

Wallcrawler 12-17-2024 01:19 PM

Texans have a ferocious pass rush.

If we get pass happy Andy, as his presser kind of states we will (you gotta be able to throw the ball in this league), then Carson Wentz should be trotted out there in sacrifice to his dumbassery.

16 of 22 plays with a 2 score lead were passes. 54% pressure rate, Mahomes planted repeatedly, including a string of 8 straight incomplete passes.

You'll be hard pressed to find another coach calling plays with such an overwhelming lack of ability to see what Is happening right in front of his face.

Maybe someone could slip Andy some game tape of rushes that aren't just hb dive, and maybe the run will function a little better if the defense has to guess where it's going.

Not a fan of the gameplan to get Mahomes mauled another 8-10 times and then ask him to play again 4 days later on a bad wheel.

Had you told me we'd be pondering the delta between these two at the start of the year is call you crazy but here we are.

Mahomes will start Saturday

Yes, in all do respect to Chad Henne and Matt Moore, Wentz is probably better than at least 10 starters right now in the NFL. Pretty lucky to have him back there.

poolboy 12-17-2024 05:39 PM

just dont see how Mahomes can play this week and come back 4 days later and play
Might be be smart to start Wentz Saturday but Idfk

We all need to sign a petition getting DeBerg back in the lounge because this ain't cutting it, TLO... you're a jobber, a journeyman compared to the Great One

Mahomes wouldn’t have to play vs Pittsburgh if the Chiefs win on Saturday and the Patriots (miraculously) beat Buffalo on Sunday.

#1 seed would be secured.

Wentz can do it!

There is universal agreement that he is the best backup QB in the NFL this year.

On a side note….
Why haven’t they been doing the rush push with him on those 3rd and 1’s. He’s been doing that for years.

You should have a third option let Andy read, and Patrick Mahomes decide.

Id go with that... It's not like Mahomes is lighting it up this year anyway. But, the games that we have won, when it's time to make the plays to win the game, he makes them. So I get the hesitancy. Greatnes is great, especially when you can pick your spots to be great.

Wallcrawler 12-18-2024 01:54 PM

Mahomes won't sit if he can play and the 1 seed is at stake. It's just not in him to not play if he's cleared by doctors.
