Probably considering the earlier game on Saturday is 16:45 ET.

Yeah our divisional game will be on Saturday daytime. That’s been the history if we weren’t playing one of the Ravens/Bills/Bengals.

Not as big a joke as Jax in the div rd a couple years ago but as easy as path as reasonably possible. The Chargers would have put up more of a fight but true to form they pissed themselves beforehand. Nothing about that game scared me relative to Houston - Herbert handed it to them.

Yeah but it’s like 10-20% chance and early in the day and seems pretty marginal. Weather will be cold but probably not a huge driver beyond the normal of cold playoff football.

chiefforlife 01-12-2025 08:32 PM

I was under the impression that Chargers had an excellent O line but Herbert was getting killed out there. Almost instant pressure. A few times he was elevated and slammed.

Were they missing some guys when we played them a few weeks ago?

That looked like a very impressive D line but not so much when we played them.

That would be my only real concern is if they were able to get that kind of pressure. That could really mess up a game plan.

MahomesKnows 01-12-2025 08:49 PM

Chargers are a bit like the opposite of the Chiefs at o line imo. Their interior guys are suspect but the tackles are good. Texans seemed to be getting through at will for a lot of the game so hopefully we've got some screens/quick passes dialed up to be ready no matter who starts at LT.

IowaHawkeyeChief 01-12-2025 10:10 PM

Houston playing the early Saturday game is literally clockwork. Does anybody have the stats on it? If they played 8 games in the playoffs they must have 7 Saturday afternoon games.

I’m pretty sure they’ve been nothing other than gameplanning over these multiple weeks of rest. They knew ALL of these teams pretty closely but I’m sure were zeroing in on the Bills and Ravens. One extra day of prep won’t move the needle.

Feels like it.

Same with the Titans and Jaguars. For that matter, our game against the Colts in 2018 was also the first Saturday game. It's gotta be an AFC South thing.

They've played 8 wild card games and every single one was Saturday afternoon. This is the second straight year they play Saturday afternoon in the divisional round too. Their last playoff game that wasn't on a Saturday was the Chiefs game where they blew the 24-0 lead.

Here's the Texans playoff slotting over the last 15 years:

2011: Saturday 3:30
2012: Saturday 3:30
2015: Saturday 3:30
2016: Saturday 3:30
2018: Saturday 3:30
2019: Saturday 3:30
2023: Saturday 3:30
2024: Saturday 3:30

I'm assuming this is the Wild Card round. Pretty sure like I said that our Divisional round games against the Colts and Jaguars in 2018 and 2022 were also the first Saturday games. Maybe it's indeed an AFC South thing.

Yup. I also remember that was my first time watching AJ Brown showing what an absolute monster he was.

If we can't beat the Texans, it just is what it is and we didn't deserve anything. We suffered through the hardest path last year to now have the easiest path this year. Nothing is really "easy" per se but it's all relative given the gauntlets and wars this team has endured.

Been saying it for weeks.

We want a Ravens vs Chiefs AFCCG in Arrowhead.

That would be a brutal set of circumstances for Baltimore to overcome.

The thing that really sucks for them is they will come into that game trying to run, run, run on offense.

That's a recipe to fall behind early. This is the BEST Chiefs run defense in years.

With a questionable pass defense and an OL we already destroyed. Twice.

I just can't see the Ravens coming out passing at all after what happened last postseason. Of course, who knows if Zay will even be close to 100%.

Chiefs stonewalled Henry in the 2019 AFCCG which had Mike Pennel. The other good games Henry had was when the Chiefs didn't have Mike on the team.

And that team didn't have Bolton or Chenal either. Both of those guys are excellent at stopping the run.

I worry more about stopping Josh Allen than Lamar....Allen is just so tough to take down, especially on short yardage plays.

Yeah, for me the pathways are like this:

1) You play Buffalo, it’s a guarantee that it’s gonna be a classic game decided at the end of the 4Q. We’ve gotten it done every time before in the playoffs, but it’s a sliver of room for error late in those games.

2) You play Baltimore, it might turn out that way too, but there’s also a very real outcome where we control the game from start to finish because Lamar gets antsy and plays outside himself.

Do we win either way? I believe so, but it’s clear which matchup has the cleaner setup for our specific team.

Joe Buck is actually solid. He doesn't deserve to be lumped in with Aikman, who is absolutely awful.

RunKC 01-13-2025 09:51 AM

The Texans offense has fallen off a cliff since Tank Dell got hurt. You could see it in the Chiefs game and it’s been that way ever since.

Sure they scored 32 vs the Chargers but that was with a pick 6, 2 pt conversion steal (lol Chargers) and another INT that put them in FG position. That’s 12 points from the defense and ST’s.

The protection issues for the Texans is a huge deal as well. Stroud is the 2nd most sacked QB in the NFL and his only receiving weapon that scares anybody is Collins.

Think the Texans will struggle to get past 20 points in this game while the Chiefs can cruise to 30+ if needed. They let up last time with the Kareem slide to end it.

Feels like a 30-16 type of win for us

TheGuardian 01-13-2025 09:53 AM

Joe Buck has definitely improved. He used to do that "no emotion" thing until everyone started calling him out.

Troy is a moron who has never been actually good at anything in life in any way. He also got butthurt when Joshua Brisco accidentally offended him by pointing out his pedestrian stats.

I say the wild card game was the Chargers Chargering more than the Texans taking it to them. The Texans D is legit, but that game was there to be had for the chargers. they had multiple drives up 6-0 and the texans were struggling to get anything going for awhile. It was a one score game when Herbert started melting down. Houston is gonna have a LOT more to worry about with the Chiefs offense than they did with the Chargers. The Chargers have 1 single weapon who is a crafty slot guy and thats IT. They play a caveman style on offense yet they have zero big talent at RB. Anderson and Hunter aren’t gonna run amok when we’re throwin the ball 2 seconds after the snap all game.

More concerning than the game itself for me is having to face a dirty defense. Pat has to protect our guys like he did last game.

These guys look bounty gate level at times.

Bl00dyBizkitz 01-13-2025 10:32 AM

We've kinda been writing checks all year long about saving stuff for the playoffs, waiting to flip the switch, not caring about the regular season, yada yada.

Well, it's time to cash those checks. I have high expectations for this game.

Bl00dyBizkitz 01-13-2025 10:56 AM

This game gives me big 2014 Chiefs vs Patriots vibes.

We were high off beating the Texans (ironically) and happy to be in the Divisional Round, but we were hopelessly outmatched. We needed everything to go our way to have a chance against the Pats. They played a B- game against us and we lost, it wasn't competitive at all.

The Texans are gonna need everything to go their way, or something catastrophic to happen to us for them to win.
