CB is an interesting position because unlike running back it is a very valuable position. But like RB there is a significant fall off after a certain age. There are very few CBs over 30 that are very effective but it isn't quite like RB. There is an argument to be very very selective to giving second contracts to any CB.

Huh? McDuffie has been eligible for an extension for a grand total of 2 months. You're complaining that they didn't get anything done before these other deals were completed?

You do realize it takes two sides to come to an agreement.

Especially considering this deal was spun as something much better than it really was. The total value is more like $22.6 million over the life of the contract. It's still a lot, but we could swing it if we want to. It's not some huge issue for a guy as young and versatile as McDuffie has been. He'd more than likely earn every penny of what we give him.

We're not trading him.

For an elite CB, enjoy the $4.5 mil. cap hit this year, the roughly $13 mil. cap hit for 2026 when the Chiefs pick up his option and then FT him for one year at likely around $25-28 mil. at that time. Then let him walk for the comp pick. Let someone else pay him the mega contract for 4-5 more years and do what the Chiefs do; draft CB's and develop them.

This is the way.

It's $90M guaranteed over five years, not three.

If you add up the cap hits over the five seasons, it comes to $118,622,366. Or in other words, $23.7M per year.

McDuffie isn't going anywhere and a deal will be done before they play a game this year.

Dave Merritt is leaving next year to become a DC unless Spags becomes a Head Coach. So this won’t be as easy as you’re making it seem.
