The English really didn't give their monarch post death monarchial names. Particularly after the Norman conquest. Most of the descriptive names we have for them were used in their lifetime: Longshanks, Rufus, Lackland, Cour de Lion, etc.

Longshanks was post Norman conquest and Alfred was prior (9th Century), there is also Cnut the Great (prior to 1066)..
