I love Broxton.

But Skip was going to swing at whatever he threw up there until he got out. Schumaker at 0-2 is as sure an out as the game has.

Dude's a bull on the mound, but there are times when discretion is the better part of valor. Throwing Schumaker anything in the zone on 0-2 is a bad idea.

BigRedChief 06-08-2010 10:59 PM

Expanding their strike zone again.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-08-2010 10:59 PM

Given that only half the team shows up on any given day, I'm renaming Tony's mantra for this team Hard 4.5

Frazod 06-08-2010 11:00 PM

Shit, we lost to the Royals.

Oh wait, I mean Dodgers.

Easy mistake. Blue hats, haven't won anything since the 80s.....

chief52 06-09-2010 08:20 PM

Play ball!!! Bottom of one. Kershaw K's 2 and walks one.... No score going to the bottom of 1.

kcxiv 06-09-2010 08:28 PM

Manny Being Manny 2-0

chief52 06-09-2010 08:29 PM

Manny goes yard! 2 to zip Dodgers in the first!

kcxiv 06-09-2010 09:06 PM

4-0. Blake Dewitt with 2 rbi's on that single.

DJ's left nut 06-09-2010 09:11 PM

Game was over when Winn misplayed a routine fly ball into a 2 out double, only to see Manny park the next one.

The Cardinals aren't scoring 3 runs (let alone 5) against Clayton Kershaw when he's pitching like this.

I'm just killing time until Futurama comes on at this point...

kcxiv 06-09-2010 09:23 PM

damn, 4-3 Ludwick or whatever his name is, rocked that hanging curveball

chief52 06-09-2010 09:38 PM

It's a game on now. Dodgers are lucky they have been able to keep Albert quiet this series. Talk about a ticking time bomb. Good baseball. To those who think I was a little cocky posting about the Dodgers, I apologize. I am actually just waiting for BigRedChief to surface. He made a few cocky statements and then questioned my baseball knowledge before the series started.

I guess his computer must have broke.

Carry on...enjoy the game

Tx frazod. The ground rule double did suck. Hell, that was probably a triple and a run scored. I knew they could not keep Albert down for the entire series.

That is the great thing about a forum like this. It is all in black and white and no I am not going to go back and pull it all up for your lazy ass.

Damn, you're sure disrespecting the NL.

Luckily, Rick hurt his ankiel (literally), so the more productive, younger player has been playing. What can I tell you...we lack a prime minister of common sense because some of us were saying before the season that Maier should be the starter.

DJ's left nut 06-15-2010 09:56 PM

Yeah, the Ankiel signing was stupid from the jump.

As for Soup - he also outpitched Clemens (he wasn't so bad in the AL, IIRC) in game 7 of the 2004 NLCS to go with his 2006 hardware.

Maybe if you'd have ever put him in a game that mattered, you'd have seen the stones this guy has. Suppan has the guts of a burgler out there.

DeezNutz 06-15-2010 09:57 PM

Nah, Suppan was always a solid starter. Not flashy, but a dude who would consistently grind out 200+. Those guys have real value, and he was underrated here.

I was at this game last night. Pretty boring game for most of the night. The nacho bar was better than the game.

It's the first time I've heard a Cardinal player booed at Bush since that reliver who's name we need not mention ever again.

I'm against booing a Cardinal player at Bush. We are suppose to be different than other teams. Players want to come here because if you are wearing the birds on bat you were one of us.

We Cardinal fans(mostly) booed for effort, not performance. You think Holliday is going to perform better because he was booed at home?

What I've seen from Holliday is he is showing maximum effort. He's running out routine grounders. by all reports he's taking extra batting practice and working hard on getting his swing back. He's chasing down foul balls that are obviously going to be foul. He gets a fly hit to him, he gets it and tosses it into the infield and hustles back to his position. He's talking to the other players in the dugout, encouraging his teammates. He's doing everything right except for executing in clutch situations. And that is what he is paid to do.

As I've said on here many times, I'll probably hold a grudge for a long time over the playoff game, not because he missed an easy fly ball but for his seeminfly lackadasial attitude afterwards. Eating sunflower seeds etc, They cut to Ryan in the dugout sitting there with his head in his hands, inconsulable. Thats the passion I like to see that makes me a fan of a player. But......

Holliday is wearing the birds on the bat, nothing can be done about the contract. We need him to produce, he's not. Fans rightfully so, get pissed. Trashing him on here is one thing But, booing your own player at Bush......Just not my style.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-17-2010 11:32 PM

I don't give a good God **** about what Cardinal fans think they should do.

The guy cost us our best minor league prospect, a serviceable long man, and another farm hand, plus 7 years and 120 million dollars in money.

He's never hit for shit unless he was at Coors, and even then, when stricter testing came around, his numbers declined precipitously when he should have been entering his primes seasons.

The choking **** got our ass knocked out of the 2009 playoffs by misplaying a ball a bantam leaguer would catch 95% of the time.

I don't care how hard he tries.

He ****ing sucks, end of story. I want to nail him to the ****ing cross.

That's great. He's also still putting up the third best numbers of our outfielders.

He should be putting up splits of .320/400/540 with 30ish homers.

I think not.

And IMO, fans have the right to boo underperforming players.

Now, if you're getting booed in STL, as a Cardinal, then you must be woefully underperforming - and Holliday was.

Looks like this incident woke him up a bit.

With the bases empty, that's about what he's doing.

The problem has been that he's pressing with runners on. I would expect him to eventually relax a bit and get past that.

Ultimately I think you'll see a .310/.375/.500 w/ 25 HRs season out of him. In other words, a pace about where you have listed above for the rest of the season, adjusted downward for his slow start.

If here's there for us in August, September and October, I'll let him slide on the first couple of months.

But he'd damn sure better not get racked by another routine fly.

Last 71 .357 16 HR 66 RBI

Not just last year. His career stats line up with what he has done this year. Slow start then heats up as the season goes along. The only difference is his BA with RISP is really bad compared to career numbers.

No way they were related. It's just so rare to see a current Cardinal player booed based on performance, that it got noticed and talked about in the media.

I agree, people have a right to boo. I'm just saying that we should stay the classiest fans in baseball and take the high road because it doesn't work anyway. Booing players doesn't make them play better.

He'll keep us in more games than he doesn't. I'll take him over PJ Walters every time. For no cost, he'll do.

In 1994, Ken Griffey Jr. hit 30 by June 17.

In 2006, Albert Pujols hit 25 by the end of May.

For as nice as Holliday's hot streak has been, that's the hit I've been waiting for.

To rope a clutch single with a full count on a very difficult pitch to hit - very impressive.

Though had Gregg thrown that ball 5 feet short of the plate, I think he'd have still swung and missed at it. Sometimes he decided before the ball is released that he's going to swing at it.
