He'll be fine. I literally had the same back injury playing basketball a month ago. It was sore, but I could play. Then it would tighten up.

I took a week off and now I'm totally fine. With the trainers, masseuses, and care (and him not being 34 like me), he'll be just fine.

He could essentially sit for 10 days through the TCU/Tech games.

Problem is that it's the knee too. He hasn't moved the same way since it happened.

I'm willing to wait until March if it will get him back to the way he was in December.

The comeback was encouraging though and hopefully they learned something from that game.

Yes, they're very good, but they don't seem to have the drive to be great like a few of Self's other teams, to really take that next step and separate themselves from everyone else ('08, '10 and '12 stand out to me). A consistent effort level, particularly on the defensive end, just hasn't been there all season. The youth no doubt has a lot to do with it.

If he's not better in the nearly 2 weeks he would get off by missing the next 2 games, and considering its been 2 weeks since the knee injury, I'm not sure he would get back to 100%.

Obviously different sports, but knee sprains in football generally are a week-to-week deal and players seem to rarely miss more than 1 or 2 games.

We have to consider the possibility that he may not get back to 100% this season, yeah. Marc Gasol missed about 2 months with a knee sprain earlier this NBA season and he still isn't quite back to himself yet. And I would not be surprised if he wasn't until next season (although I think that was more serious that Embiid's situation).

Great timing to get Embiid healthy.

I don't think 10 days is going to be enough to get healthy to be honest but even if it is, I don't think that Tech game is an automatic victory without Embid. I could absolutely see us losing to them without him. Heck, OSU has a really good team and lost down there.

It's naive to think we're just going to waltz down there and come out with a W without one of our best players. Winning on the road in the Big 12 is hard and without Embid it's going to be even more difficult. Tubby is a great coach, and if he knows he can gameplan without Embid in the game, he's going to come up with a good plan that is going to give us fits.

Yes, Tech could definitely beat us at their house. They've been competitive all year there. Everyone will need to be on their game to win that one, especially with no defensive rim presence.

This weekend vs. TCU, though? I think we'll manage.

ku stormed the fb field and tore down the goal posts against K-State in 2004. That was against a K-State team that finished 4-7.

I agree. But, Rusty has been dreadful again this year. Vaughn, who was a sure fire tISU commit going to UNLV is icing on the cake.

It's why I never get emotionally involved in that recruiting stuff. Nobody ever really knows for sure. It's just not worth it.

KC_Connection 02-11-2014 10:34 PM

Also, unsurprisingly, OSU looked like an absolute mess without Smart. He was the only thing keeping them decent. I think it's pretty safe to say they'll lose the next 2 as well.

RustShack 02-12-2014 12:14 AM

Yeah, **** my face. I guarantee UNLV is hiring his handler Kaffey... And probably throwing him some money under the table.

Rumor is he was a silent commit after the Michigan game, and got real shady recently and suddenly moved up his commitment catching all coaches by surprise(probably besides UNLV's)

But seriously, I can understand Kansas Kentucky or UNC over Iowa State... But ****ing UNLV!?

RustShack 02-12-2014 12:18 AM

We'll see how the rest of the year plays out. I was factoring Vaughn into my Final Four prediction... But we should still be at least the same but likely a little better next year... But at least can do better than 7 deep. And will be more experienced.

Kiimo 02-12-2014 12:42 AM

Even if you happen to be right playing the "he got paid" card is kinda bush league when you lose a recruit. Don't be Illinois fan.

RustShack 02-12-2014 12:46 AM

I'm really confident they will hire Kaffey and that's the reason. The other schools didn't want to hire him.

The only way to handle it is to have every ISU fan attack his twitter with BOOOOOOOOOOOOs. ;)

Losing out on recruits suck, man. Don't take it so hard. These kids have adults trying to pull them every direction that by the time they pick they're probably like "WTF just happened?" It's a toss up.

It could also be that going to school in Las Vegas is more fun than going to school in Iowa.

I think they win 6 of their final 7 and put themselves in a position to win or share the league title.

On the flip side I think there is a good chance KU will lose 2 of it's final 3. @OSU and @WVU.

Not likely at all.
