You have to give props to Mo for developing pitching talent in the minor leagues that help the majors at some point.

On the flip side, Mo ain’t done shit with offensive players. And Theo has done well with the offense.

Fortunately for the Cardinals they have been benefiting from competitive balance picks while being a top 7 or so revenue organization.

He's never been able to do it. He always ends up trading for an expensive veteran, or trashing his office after failing to sign Jose Contreras.

The Cardinals showed him film where he was late getting the foot down and that was making him late with his swing. Same thing with Ozuna. He changed to get his foot down earlier and he was back on track. They went back to Fowler and showed him the difference between last years and this years film. Told him Ozuna had the same issue, showed him. The Cardinals even had Ozuna talk to him and tell Fowler, yeah this is what worked for me.

He still hasnt changed a damn thing. 1/3 of the season gone. This isn’t a slump. He refuses to change anything and they keep running him out there like he’s hitting .285. He needs to ride the pine until he does something different.

We got an additional $50 million this year from mlb. Spend that money and give it to someone who would accept Fowler in a trade. He doesn’t want to be traded. Sit him on the bench till he gets an attitude adjustment.

Our best offensive/defensive lineup does not include Fowler. I would rather have Martinez in right field (smaller sample size, but statistically no worse than Dexter), Jedd at 3B who is a plus defender there, Wong at 2B, also a plus defender, and Carpenter at 1b where he is a plus defender.

Our outfield would be below average at the corners (mainly due to Ozuna’s arm, that looks like it is duct-taped on now), but overall we are better off. Martinez at first, Carpenter at 2B, should be emergency situations.

Thus home plate umpire today sucks really bad. It’s bad for both teams. Pitches in the same location are a strike or ball depending on his whim l guess.

Trying to watch on my phone in the middle of nowhere western ks and was thinking the same thing. I almost got pissed and turned it off after that Ozuna/Martinez close to debacle.

I agree. Doesn’t look right at all.

Martinez had that strikeout for the 3rd out. It wasn’t even close or borderline. They scored 3 runs after that missed call.

You guys are literally describing every Cardinal injury over the last 20 years. It's an organizational failure that needs to be seriously re-evaluated.

Regarding Martinez, the same thing happened to Mayers in the 8th yesterday. Umps were shit in this series.

The 18-year-old Gorman was the first player born in the 2000s to be drafted. He's known for his power potential and won multiple home run derbies in high school.

Gorman will report to the rookie-ball affiliate Johnson City Cardinals on Wednesday.

They finally draft some high school power talent.

Doesn’t matter if it works out in 4 years. Keep drafting and eventually you will get a power bat.

Holland struggles continue

Greg Holland blew a save at AAA Memphis on Monday, allowing three earned runs in an inning pitched. Holland is on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip impingement and has made three rehab appearances in Memphis.

"He was still not at that point where we can find a place for him," President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said.

Fowler -- if he is in the lineup Tuesday -- would step into the batter's box as one of the worst regularly-appearing hitters in the majors this season.

Of the league's 159 qualifying hitters, he ranks 157th in average (.173), 148th in on-base percentage (.276) and 157th in slugging percentage (.286).

The switch-hitter is now slashing .191/.287/.329 against righthanded pitching. Against southpaws, he's worse, slashing .091/.225/.091.

BigRedChief 06-12-2018 05:05 PM

Damn, that’s a big punch in the gut.

Cardinals starting pitcher Alex Reyes told reporters Tuesday his one-year-old daughter is battling cancer.

Reyes, who recently found out he will miss the rest of the season with a torn tendon in his right shoulder, said his daughter Aleyka was diagnosed with the disease when she was five months old.

Yeah, it really sucks that the Cards are getting more WAR from a cost-controlled Harrison Bader (1.0) than the Cubs are getting from Jason Heyward (0.9 WAR) at $23 million.

I just hope that maybe this year is the last year. He’s got the 6th most managerial experience in the majors. Makes the same mistakes as year one. Took over Larussa’s team and got two free years. And it’s been a steady decline since 2015.

When he goes into these prolonged slumps, we find out later that he needed a new prescription for his contacts despite saying his eyesight is fine.

I saw a stat on the broadcast that in the month of June Martinez and Ozuma are hitting .435. The rest of the team .180.

Fowler doesn't look any closer to being able to hit a ball than the first of the year. Bader leads the team in WAR and defensive runs saved. If you are really trying to win each game, Bader has to start. He falls off the cliff being exposed as a starter, then bench him. This isn't rocket science.

You're talking shit about Heyward's production when you're paying through the nose for less production than the Cardinals are getting from someone playing the same position making the league minimum, and you wonder what my point is? Idiot.

How about this then, the Cardinals have a whopping 4 position players with a higher WAR than Heyward, the Cubs have 8.

Rather pay Heyward $23M for 1 WAR than Molina $20M for 0 or Fowler $16.5M for -1.3.

If you havent noticed, Molina has been declining for a while now and if you want to use Hamas' WAR statistic he is sitting right at replacement level.

I mean it must suck paying him $20M and Fowler $16.5M to give you less WAR the the Cubs get from their designated pinch hitter Tommy La Stella.

Like I said before the season even started Molina has been a below average hitter 2 out of the last 3 seasons and he's currently on pace to make that 3/4. He still had his defense going for him but it's starting to show decline as well with throwing out below league average runners in 2016 and so far in 2018, with his pitch framing putting him at +8 calls on the season which is good for 19th in the league with guys like Grandall sitting at #1 with +57.
