They probably need some of the slot saving for Caglianone and/or Shields.

Looks like we signed him today. Must have had an agreement in place before the day started.

Dartgod 07-17-2024 02:05 PM

I forgot a great story from a game my wife and I attended earlier this year. We were in section 137, row J or something like us. We noticed this guy a row ahead of us and a few seats down was on the phone a lot, looked like a video call. He was showing whoever was on the other end the action on the field. Then he was showing the people in the row behind some pictures. He was with 2 other guys and they didn't speak much English.

My wife found out what was going on from the people he was showing the pictures to. Turns out these guys were here from Venezuela and one of them had played ball with Salvy when they were young. The picture he had was a team picture with Salvy a year before he was drafted by the Royals. Also on the team and in the picture was Jose Altuve.

The weird thing was, the guy hadn't talked to Salvy since they played together and Salvy had no idea he was there. After the game we tried to get someone's attention in the dugout so they could relay to Salvy, but we were to far away to get anyone's attention.

I thought it was a really cool story.

Nice. Hopefully he turns into something. Royals have done a good job at getting guys signed promptly after the draft in recent years, for what it's worth. Be nice to get these guys a little cup of coffee of pro ball this year before getting into the grind next season.

I’d really like to see Caglianone assigned to at least Quad Cities and preferably High A for this season.

Maybe even AA if he proves himself too advanced for those levels.

Move the dude as quick as he can…

In an ideal world... but here's the rub. He wants to be a two way player, and by all accounts the organization is gonna let him try. What do you do with the guy if his pitching or hitting tool becomes major league ready, but the other tool is a year, two years or more away? I pretty much already know the answer, but just throwing it out there...

Perhaps that has been the issue all along? With all their down time, the bullpen has been beta tasting the “taste of KC dog” for the first 97 games and creating quite a mess?

Looks like we've got Wacha, Singer and Lugo going this weekend against the White Sox. Nothing listed yet after Lugo. I was curious how they were gonna shake out the rotation after the break. And now we know...

A little surprised and disappointed we haven't made any other transactions beyond the Harvey move. Eleven more days until the deadline.

Baseball Prospectus on the Royals draft.

Kansas City Royals
Draft overview: The Royals swung hard here—nearly as hard as their first-rounder Jac Caglianone does. Somewhat surprisingly announced as a two-way player, the high-risk, high-reward Cags was followed by eight straight pitcher selections, led by 17-year-old cold weather high school lefty David Shields. Keep an eye on whether the Royals can sign 14th-rounder Kyle DeGroat, a prep arm filled with tons of upside and projectable traits.

Top draftee’s system fit: Caglianone immediately surpassed Blake Mitchell as the system’s top prospect.

dlphg9 07-19-2024 10:51 PM

No Walter Pennington on the ML roster is absolute horse shit.

Caglianone should be a top 50 prospect correct?

He was ranked No. 26 in Baseball Prospectus' Midseason 50.

26. Jac Caglianone, TWP, Kansas City Royals

Why He’ll Succeed: As a hitter, he combines extreme top-end raw power—he hit a 122 mph batted ball this spring, which even with BBCOR bats is incredible—with plus-plus in-zone contact rates. Most players with that type of elite damage/contact ability become stars (there’s a big caveat coming down below). As a pitcher, he throws a mid-90s fastball and a plus change from the left side. He’s a viable prospect on both sides of the ball, even if far better with the bat in his hands.

Why He Might Fail: As a hitter, he recklessly chases at almost everything thrown vaguely in the direction of the strike zone; he’s either going to have to adjust in some form or his hit tool will collapse in pro ball. As a pitcher, his stuff was inconsistent and down in 2024, and we’re actually a little surprised he was announced as a two-way player instead of an outfielder or first baseman only. Also, he’s a pitcher (sometimes).

He's going to scorch the majors. Why? Yes he strikes out and chases but he ACTUALLY can make contact with a baseball well. Do you know who has a even higher chase rate? Salvador Perez. But he can hit a baseball because he has god given talent. Thats Cags but with a little more power and a tad more patience.

BWillie 07-20-2024 07:39 PM

Salvador Perez now has the most walks he's ever had in a season and he's only at 350 ABs.

So this was mentioned in last night’s GDT. And again, I hope Jordan is okay. Really gotta wonder what his situation was/is. I know he wasn’t the most popular guy around here, but I was very interested in seeing what he could do as a full time reliever. He’d had some success in that role before, aside from his time in CO where rarely a pitcher ever succeeds. Do the Royals have to fulfill his contract? Very weird situation.

Royals' Bobby Witt: Collects three more hits in win

Quote:

Witt has come out of the All-Star break on a tear with nine hits in 11 at-bats. His streak of three games with three hits is tied for the longest of his career. It's also tied for the third-longest streak in Royals history, behind Johnny Damon (4) and George Brett (6). Witt's hot run extends beyond the All-Star break, as he's been out of his mind over his last 15 games, slashing .508/.516/.864 with five homers and 13 RBI over that span. Since June 30, the 24-year-old has seen his batting average go from .307 to .337, second best in MLB behind Steven Kwan.
...Kwan is hitting .348, but with 100+ ABs fewer than Bobby. Batting title is most definitely in play.

I mentioned this before, getting 3 or more hits in consecutive games. BWJ is up to three games now, and he’s on fire. He’s is rare air. Few people have done it for three games let alone 4. He’s hot, just like Brett got hot.

It’s like the 70’s again. The Orioles are good, Yankees, good Twins teams and dammit with this Cleveland team. 62 games left.

I wonder why they are tanking it? Luis Roberts has so much untapped potential still

That dude can't stay on the field if his life depended on it.

He must've forgotten the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

White Sox aren't eligible for the lottery next year either I believe because they aren't hitting the spending threshold lol

Shit the 2023 Royals were almost as bad. They tied the franchise record for losses in 106. White Sox are currently on pace for 118 to 119 losses. Pretty sure that Tiger team 20 years ago lost a MLB record 119 games.

I will be rooting for the White Sox to achieve the impossible!

Red Sox and Rockies are tied going into the bottom of the 9th. Rockies due up.

Twins up 1 on the Phillies in the 7th. Guardians already lost.

Yuuuup. And that's another crushing loss for the BoSox, after getting swept by the Dodgers, all crazy games. And you know what? Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care...

Guardians have been playing like shit recently too. The division is still up in the air.

So I went and looked.. They have the identical records after 101 games. 27-74.

Fast track this sum bitch. Seems to me his offense projects similar to Salvy. Tons of power, high chase rate but he can hit a baseball wherever its thrown

They're not gonna fast track him, because it's believed that he wants to pitch and hit and the Royals are gonna allow it. That's gonna slow down his progress, because while he does have a great arm he hasn't been a very good pitcher, because he walks wayyyyy too many batters

He's so big and so long and his legs are so strong (from all the pitching training). I think his ability to hit pitches he chases and strike them well could possibly surpass Perez's.

He has Aaron Judge power and I haven't been this excited about a prospect other than Bobby Witt Jr in a long long time. I think he's gonna be a perennial all star and will probably break the Royals HR record within his first few seasons. He's a monster with power that this organization hasn't seen since like Bo Jackson.

dlphg9 07-23-2024 06:10 PM

I really don't get why Jac Caglianone only has a 70 power grade on a few sites. The guy hit a 516 ft HR. He had 9 straight games with a HR. If he's not an 80 power guy to some publications, then idk who is.

How are the royals doing this year. Living in South Carolina I don’t get them on tv.

Why Not? 07-24-2024 06:18 AM
