I can't say I know much more about Germany after this game. The result was clearly more about England's pitiful speed on transition D than anything else.

"Never mind shades of 1966, this England team is playing football from 1066," writes Justin Kavanagh.

67 min: THIS COULD BE IT FOR ENGLAND. Germany 3-1 England. The ball having bounced off the wall, four German players stream upfield, no red shirts bothering to chase back and help. Down the inside left, Schweinsteiger rolls the ball wide right to Muller on the right-hand edge of the England box. James gets a hand to the shot, but it was hit hard as you like and flies into the bottom-right corner.

69 min: England's four defenders make it back to their area.

Didn't catch the game, but that goal not counting screwed England. Game should have been tied and the outcome of the game might have been different.

Could go either way. All 4 goals were transition goals, which is usually a function of pressing for an equalizer. But then ALL 4 were transition, including the first, suggesting there was just a sinkhole on D for England.

You need to see the goals, they were literal 4 on 2s and 4 on 3s, with the rest of the team lagging behind. On every goal, the ball had been in Germany's penalty area <10 seconds prior. The first was a 1-1 race right down the middle off a Germany goal kick.

Doubtful. They were not a team equipped to overcome adversity. That on top of them looking like they should be playing in a seniors league some place spelled their doom.

I think the goal that should not have been a goal but was screwed them more than the one that was but wasn't.

Definitely, I noticed that on replays. But, going into the locker room tied 2-2 is way different than being down 1 goal and knowing you got screwed out of a goal. Not saying the Germans wouldn't have won it, but the rest of the game might have been played differently.

Fret not, training camp is mere weeks away.

87 min: Johnson is replaced by Wright Phillips. On BBC TV, Jingo the Commentator is trotting out that "we know these players are world class, they play for Chelsea and Manchester United and the like every week" argument. Has he thought that the reason they look good is because they're alongside players who are from Not England? No. No he hasn't, is the answer to that poser.

Ok, with the U.S. out, what team will you be cheering for the rest of the tournament?

Me? Argentina. Back in the day, I used to love watching Maradona play.

ditto

it's random, but whenever i caught argentina they played a beautiful attacking style...after a while i found myself rooting for them by default when the us wasn't involved..

plus i've always wanted to go to argentina and their women are hot...and i like their uniforms
