if anyone out there knows right about now

on the install with the mac it looks like everything installed right but there is a problem loading X

i used the rescue CD to boot and then changed the default init level to 3 so i can boot w/o cd and work within the console

when x starts the screen gos black

the start up sound plays fine

i have run a sax2 -a but it did resulted in the black screen as well

based on a opensuse.org i have edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf with this

Code:

PowerPC X11 configuration
From openSUSE

back to main

How to get generic graphics acceleration working:

    * Add to file /etc/X11/xorg.conf in section Section "Module" this:

Load "dri"

any suggestions?

FIXED

Thinking about trying out the SUSE LiveDVD (again) in the startup screen it gives me the option to load the following:
LiveCD-KDE or LiveCD - GNOME

Which is most advisable or does it matter?

KDE is most windows-like ...

try them both and see what one you like more...

thats the fun of linux... pick what one you like...

also i reccomend the knoppix live CD as well as the PCLINUXOS will be releasing soon

This right here is the beauty. If there's something you don't like about your computer, just change it to another one.

I'm using KDE right now and do believe that I like it best between the two.

If any one gets a chance give the windows manager Beryl a look, I have been showing it off and everyone is impressed with it. It adds a 3D cube effect to your virtual windows, and lots of other pretty effects as well. I'm running it on top of KDE.

If you are running fedora and KDE all you have to do is type in
yum install beryl-kde
for gnome:
yum install beryl-gnome

Here is a cool video showing what Beryl looks like and some of the special effects it adds.
