Alex Gordon needs to start getting his shit at the plate going as well. He is so strong but man he is back to being meh.

The Royals have been fairly patient and working counts. I'm not convinced thats the problem.

When they do get that fat mistake pitch over the middle, the best we've been able to do is, in general, hit a gapper for a double, and thats actually an alarming (and demoralizing) thing: perhaps the players themselves are just unable to consistently hit for power. If that is the case, then this thing can't be fixed and we're doomed.

I seems like most of the Royals hits are generally to the center portion of the field. Nobody pulls the ball which would be the shortest route to hitting a HR.

Isn't he hitting around .300?

We need some hitting mojo in the game thread today.

Really thought we'd see the Royals post an above-average OBP as a team this season with the additions of Infante and Aoki.

Currently 22nd in OBP. 28th in SLG. 26th in OPS.

Leads to a pretty shitty offense overall.

Yeah, the all-elusive long ball... That's where the fatty is supposed to step up, but it's not a buffet, so he's clueless! But he'll give you that disingenuous pained look with each at-the-plate **** up, so Ned's sure he has passion.

I've never heckled a major league ball player but if that butterball was a Cardinal I would bury him every at bat. He's fleecing you guys, hard. The few at bats I've seen of him he looks defeated. Your FO should move on. I completely understand the hate, he can't be defended anymore.

Funny thing is most people were wringing their hands about pitching (and still complain regularly about it).

We're #2 in the AL right now. We were #1 last season, and missed the playoffs because our offense sucked. We probably improved 2 of our worst spots in the lineup, but we were always counting on good or bounce-back years from everyone else, and if the team doesn't start hitting then once again we'll do nothing despite good pitching.

So we are the 1990s Chiefs?

Should I make today's thread?

They have mostly all been mediocre to bad (Gordon has been good and Esky has been a nice surprise so far) but Moustakas and Butler have been death to the lineup as a whole. .492 and .486 in OPS respectively, which is #4 and #6 worst in the AL with at least 60 PAs. Must be better there, but I am losing hope quickly.

duncan_idaho 04-22-2014 01:51 PM

Next change I'd try:

If Butler continues to be a disaster at the plate, I move Gordon into the 4 and see if Bunching Aoki/Infante/Hosmer/Gordon can start producing some results. Perez hits 5. Butler 6. Moustakas 7.

Moose has actually at least been hitting the ball hard for over a week now. He will never hit for a high average though. But on April 9th his OPS was .176.

He's still 60 points below Escobar's OPS for 2013, which was the worst in baseball.

Yes, but he is at least moving in the right direction, which was my point. Billy, well he has been about the same all season if not decreasing.

But we didn't add any HR-pop, which I thought should have been priority #1 in the offseason.

I guess it's nice to have a true leadoff, but we might have been better off signing an RF with some punch and keeping Gordo at leadoff.
