You're making a lot of assumptions. It's not that simple.

Yeah I can’t say with any certainty it was dumb of them to not run. The defense just made a good play.

That's really all I'm trying to say. A run wouldn't have been stupid or anything, and maybe they should have gone in that direction, but it wasn't the no-brainer that people are making it out to be.
