How many of us thought Thornhill let up a TD late in the game on the long pass to the corner of the end zone?

I couldn't see the ball on the ground and my heart sank for about 5 seconds.

Once you get the job, you cant get fired. And you can't really get passed by another ref who is better than you. They should compete more to see who can make the most correct calls.

There's not enough football refs at that level. The NCAA refs are even worse. This is where not being a global sport hurts. In soccer, they have refs all over the world. If a ref blows a call during the World Cup, he will be sent home. Happens all the time in that sport. There's little to no accountability for NFL refs.

They absolutely can get passed by.

Ref grades during the regular season determine who gets playoff games. Grades during the playoff games determine who gets the championship games.
