Cowherd (I know,I know) pulled out a bunch of statistics the other day comparing the NBA to the NFL when it came to "Thug-like" activity.

It was definately eye-opening.

But I do disagree with Dane's assertion that he'd be vilified here. As I mentioned, I think he'd be a hero in this town, at least until he had his first bad game. There'd be some grumbling at the time of the trade, and I think the sports talk stations would do their best to fan the flames initially, but in the end I don't think the majority of the fans in KC would give a shit about his off-the-field stuff. I think a good number might even defend him (as we've already seen on this thread, and he's not even rumored to be a Chief, much less is one...). In the end, I think it would all come down to wins and losses. Assuming he kept his nose clean from this point forward...

Agree 100%

I'd like some of you Ruthlessraper defenders to explain something to me:

1. Peyton & Eli Manning married their high school sweethearts, but neither have been in any trouble.

2. Brees married his sweetheart from Purdue.

3. Tom Brady banged super hot actresses (one he had a kid with) and Super Models (and married arguably the hottest women on planet Earth).

4. Ben Rothlisberger was accused of raping a VIP greeter and later, a 20 year old in a small Georgia college town.

Which of these ones aren't like the others?

Rothlisberger and Brady because they have more rings.

I'm sure I'll get castigated for saying it, but I think, despite the popularity of college ball here, that the NBA is seen by many in the midwest as a league in a "black sport" (or inner city sport if you're being PC), whereas the NFL isn't, although something like 70-80% of the players are black. I think that's what's actually floating under the surface when some people talk about "thugs" being the reason they don't want the NBA here.

Emphasis on "some". I wouldn't paint everybody in the midwest with that brush. Including myself, who has no interest in or desire to watch the NBA, and is not racist in any way.

The one that's "available".

Not to defend his actions, though.

I think that the Chiefs have been losers so long that we have let emotion cloud our judgement. I am starting to change my opinion.

How would I feel watching Rapegutsburger throwing TDs for the Chiefs? To be honest, I would detest it, even if we win. I want to feel good about winning, I don't want to feel empty because we bought a POS douchebag in to possibly win.

That's totally accurate. I think that in most cases (not all) thug is the PC version of n*gger.

I was a huge Jazz fan until they got greedy and went on strike. I said **** it. I was an A's fan until all their strikes and I quit that as well.

Unfortunately, I agree with what you and keg are saying here.

The reason for the difference (basketball as "black" sport and NFL isn't) is because of the "visibility" of basketball players.

In football, we see primarily helmets and numbers.

It's all rooted in ignorant horse ****ing shit.

Mecca 04-21-2010 10:17 PM

Bingo, and the NFL's conduct policy is all about not wanting the NBA's image.

I don't think the NBA helped itself any by having players run into the stands to jack up some fans...that's pretty ****ing thug.

Meanwhile my favorite Chiefs are guys like Okoye, Shields, Hasty, Holmes, DT, and Montana.

None of the guys on that list would be called "thugs."

Mecca 04-21-2010 10:22 PM

My dad refers to the NBA as "blackball" and then he discusses how if these guys didn't play ball they'd be in prison.
