When I was a kid, there was a place on 40 Highway not too far from Cool Crest called The Driftwood BBQ. It was a sit down diner kind of place. If you ordered BBQ beans, they came in a little ceramic bean pot, like a coffee cup size, but like a little jug shaped pot just big enough to dip a spoon into. They kept the beans piping hot, and that was outstanding. I wish places still did that, but I'm sure those were a bitch for the bus boys to wash. They looked kind of like this, but were individual serving sized.

Back in the day when Jack was Smokestack, I think I recall the same ceramic pot thing there as well.

Who remembers when Arthur Bryants was in Ameristar casino?

I watched Superbowl XXXVI in there as a kid. Their BBQ itself was good, but that BBQ sauce is the worst I've had.

Ill say it again ..

Slaps.

They have a jalapeno sausage with a white sauce that is awesome. And their cheesy potato thing is the best

ROFL - the idea of Orangehead Pilkington getting that worked up about BBQ is the funny part.

His ideal meal is a canned soup that never goes bad and comes out of the can pre-heated.

It's been a while, but back in the day the MC location didn't so much have a 'bean crock' as they had ramekins for side items, cheesy corn, baked beans, potato salad, slaw.

Little white ramekin for small sides, big brown ramekin for big sides.

EDIT - Looks like it's still the standard

I had no idea what a ramekin was. I had to look it up. Learn something new every day

Is that white sauce, as in Big Bob's White Sauce?

Is that showing up in KC now?

I've heard good things, but haven't tried it.

Ramekins....added to vocabulary.

You might be right, my wayback memories are of the one on Old 71 Highway. I’d almost swear it was a crock.

The big order is pretty close to a 'crock.' Depends on if you think a crock needs a lid.

I mean, they're all earthenware bowls. Just different shapes.

I would have called the bigger one a crock
