I swear some people seem to think we can just run out like the 6th best OT in the draft and Lucas Niang and the line won't take a hit.

If you trade obj you have some leverage to move up in round one

But it is just the respect and pecking order of being the highest paid. Even if it doesn't last long.

The NFL is hard to predict and teams prospects can change over a three or four year contract.

That said.

For instance, I would not take a 20% pay raise if it meant working in the office every day and a lousy commute as opposed to remotely from home like I am now.

If I was going to be paid 50 million either way,

I wouldn't take a 20% pay raise to go from playing for a contender and blocking for Mahomes and the chance of more rings to some crappy team that's unlikely to ever see the playoffs.

Each to their own...

Nothing about OBJ makes me think that his opinion matches your own. He forced a trade out of Baltimore because he wanted to play LT (and get paid like one). He then turned down a 130m deal because he didn't get enough guaranteed money. Lastly, he didn't hire an agent till the last moment, and that be for a number of reasons but 1 of those reason most assuredly could be that he doesn't want to pay the agent a fee and will say "I want this amount, and won't play unless I get it"

Anything can happen but I don't think he'll be cutting any deals. If this happens, I think Veach will be the one to blink first and pay this guy like he's the best LT in the league....which he isn't.

That's probably what the plan is if Orlando doesn't sign.

I really hope Veach sticks to his offer and remembers just how bad OBJ was at times during the regular season. I’d say most of us were saying the original offer is way to high say mid season this year. OBJ was that up and down. With his performance the end of the season and playoffs I’d be ok with Veach’s original offer but otherwise tag/trade is the only option.

So you’re spending more draft capital on what amounts to a dart throw to protect your franchise QB. Seems smart.

Pasta Little Brioni 02-21-2023 08:30 AM

It's a shame this has to be mentioned on a board with what should be good football acumen...but MOST of the plays some of you are pissed about are the direct result of having a QB that won't give up on a play trying to make something happen and he ends up getting hit as a result. It's beyond pathetic to have to explain this to some of you ROFL

Lock him up and go repeat. This line was absolutely dominating in the playoffs....oh and by the way Mahomes was getting the ball out even quicker with the injury...amazing how those things coincide.

Also if you think the injury against the Jags was BECAUSE of Brown, you're an absolute Mongoloid that knows dick about football.

If - and I appreciate it may be a big if, we can get into the top 15 with the ammo we have, we then may have a cheap franchise LT for the next 5 years. Which we can then parlay into keeping the key components on defense intact, plus probably hold onto JuJu should we wish.

I'm cool with that. But the deal has to be reasonable, and I think OBJ is gonna want the bag instead.

Brown pulled that shit because he thought he could force The Chiefs' hand, and I think that's really shitty. It's not operating in good faith, and I don't believe there's any other reasonable explanation for that action. And then his whole 'yeah, this isn't the season you want to go into with a back-up left tackle' comment.

Business, yeah, whatever, but operate in good faith.

If I was Veach (and we're all glad I'm not!) I would be looking to get rid of him just for that.

But at a reasonable, fair market value deal, he's fine. He's a middle of the road starting LT. If he's insisting on record setting money and all of it guaranteed, I'm tagging and trading.

Yeah, I get it. I just can't get myself to care. I'm not emotionally attached to players or offseason moves anymore.

I honestly don't care what they do with OBJ.

I highly doubt anybody is giving up two firsts for Brown. In fact, I'd bet he won't even bring ONE first. If they trade him, I bet it's for a 2nd rounder.

In Veach we trust at this point after the Hill deal

The top 15? What picks do you think someone is trading us for OBJ? And how many of our picks are you trading away for the CHANCE at drafting a new LT?

We got OBJ for what was basically a 2nd round pick because he was on his rookie deal. Who is trading more than that for a guy who now absolutely needs a new deal?

And then you’re going to turn around, take those picks and use more of ours to trade up to take a guy who may or may not turn out to be better than OBJ….all so you can sign JuJu. Jesus ****ing Christ.

Yep

Has any player played out the 2nd year of being tagged by their team? Seems I remember most just sitting out a year. Then go wherever they want next year.
