It's rough. Was looking forward to watching this game as a bit of relief and diversion from the last few hectic days of snow, and now the wildfires in CA. One of my best friend's parents' lost their home today. They were already evacuated, but I just feel terrible for them. Some of the kindest, nicest most decent people I've ever known, and they did a lot to help me get my career started 20 something years ago. Ugh.

I have a buddy who is a big Florida State fan. He's been despondent over what happened with them this season. I think we're seeing a little of the same, though not as drastic. With so many transfers year in and year out, you get no continuity, no culture, no commeraderie. The rankings look good on paper, but sometimes it just doesn't work.

I wouldn't even mind if we had a reset year. Have a nice senior night for Dajuan, Hunter, and KJ, thank them for their time, let anyone else who wants to walk walk, and then bring in the best freshman class you can muster. Take your lumps the next year with young guys learning, but build the culture back. Recreate the system. And then if you want to go get one transfer guy the next year who fits, try it. But these hockey line change transfer classes are messing college sports up.

High level transfers are what it’s going to be going forward if you want to compete and win national championships (not freshmen). It’s Self’s job to make that work. If he’s not up to that task, he should retire like Jay Wright and the rest of them.

It’s the laziness that is getting him benched right now.

There is a guy on the Alabama football team with the FIRST name Jihad. That is even worse.

I’ll give you defense but KJ doesn’t score on anything efficiently. He literally destroys their half court offense just by being on the court at all. Has for 2 years now.

I don't see it happening. At this stage, I feel like Bill is trying to find lightning in a bottle for one season, hoping it all works and comes together one last time before calling it a career. But due to Bill's style, I'm not sure if this is ever gonna be a true recipe for success.

Self’s adjustment to press them sped ASU up and ultimately completely tired them out midway through that half. They were cooked once that happened.

I don't know honestly. They sure seemed to play a lot better with more energy in the 2nd half, and that's what we all want. Along with the almost 20 point win.

I'm sure it's like any group of people of any age. Some people respond well to yelling or tough love, some people need more support and confidence. Self's style has obviously done great things for some players and hurt others. Grimes is an easy example of it not working out, and it sure seems like Storr isn't picking up what self is putting down either. I'm of the opinion that the best thing to happen to KU was Remy getting hurt so he and Self didn't clash all season and by the time he came back Self couldn't afford to do anything but play him. Even after we won the title reading his quotes you could tell he just didn't like Remy. It is what it is, you can't make everyone happy.

If you're loaded with NBA talent, you don't have to give 100% every night. This team doesn't understand that they're not loaded. If they don't bring intensity, good/decent teams will kick their asses.

The bottom line is that great coaches know how to find what works best for each player. Some need their asses ripped while others just need some encouragement.

I know there are others, but this one sticks out to me because it shows the disdain Self has for how Remy plays. The irrational confidence type guys that shoot anywhere anytime and don't always play to the system. If this is what he is saying about Remy during the tournament when he was basically our MVP, I don't know how they would have survived each other over 35 games.

I remember one time Remy was excited and smiling and goes up to coach kinda like putting his arm around him and coach rolled his eyes and seemed mad. Remy always had a good attitude that I could see so I dont know what the deal was there. I think Coach questioned his toughness because he wouldn't play through a a stress fracture pain or knee pain whatever it was.

This is exactly what I'm curious about. I know as a middle school teacher that my tone of voice has a different affect now than it had 15 or 20 years ago.

Or play defense. They allowed 13 points the entire half. It was their best defensive half in almost 12 years.

This team doesn’t have an identity yet but if it’s ever gonna have one it’s going to have to be on the defensive end (particularly as long as KJ is starting games).

I’m shocked the strategy of running pick and rolls with Harris and KJ haven’t worked. Just shocked.
