Do you think Cutler gives a shit that he threw for less than 200?

You don't have to be able to throw 300 yards to win, but not that many QBs are going to pull off those deep passes Cutler did. He threw some beauties. That defense absolutely respected his ability to beat them deep and he still did it. That's what's more important. Not throwing for a ton of yard but making the defense fear that you can.

If Andy Reid can somehow get Alex to trust his arm to make those throws, he will ascend to the group of elite quarterbacks and we will win a superbowl.

No question.

He definately took shots down the field, which coming from a rookie is good to see. It's why the INTS, while troublesome, aren't killer yet.

I'm a little worried about his mid and short accuracy, it seems to be worse than it was in college, but his deep ball accuracy is much improved.

This. The faster tempo of the NFL is ****ing him in this regard. He'll either adapt or he won't.

I understand just fine. we have a bunch of people here that were so butthurt that we didn't waste the 1.1 on Geno Smith that they are completely obsessed with him even though he does not play for our team. It is pretty simple. Then they come on here and crow about it when he does well (but disappear when he sucks). Sad and pathetic.

Meanwhile we are still 3-0.

I'm here when he sucks too.

It's def a mental thing with smith. He's got the arm strength as we've seen.

I'd still like to have a big deep threat like josh Gordon to throw to

We are one good/great receiver and a deep threat QB away from being yearly, legit contenders.

Throwing it deep isn't the only way to win in the nfl. It has to be an option and something that's there, but it doesn't necessarily have to be an every series occurrence

That's not happening. He's been conditioned his entire career to not make mistakes or take risks. We're gonna have to win with short passes. Although I do think he has good enough arm strength to make deep throws.

O.city 09-22-2013 10:21 PM

As little as it seems, he does seem to be throwing it downfield and taking more chances as the season has worn on.

I mean really, the guy has made big plays with his arm and legs that have pretty much determined wins vs losses. It hasn't been consistent or necessarily pretty, but the guy does seem like he makes big plays when he has too.

That's the concerning part. We still need it to be a small facet of our offense and I honestly can't tell you how many times we've thrown it twenty plus yards so far this year. Very, very few times. The defense has to fear your ability to take a deep shot.

4 attempts over 20 yards in 3 games.

Terrible.

Yes, that needs to increase.

But iirc, he did make one that distance on third and long from his own endzone in the fourth quarter, so apparently he's getting a little more daring
