The supposed Kyle Shanahan comments take on a little more significance now....

From the ESPN.com article:

However, a league source said that Hunt has focused on Shanahan after hiring Scott Pioli as the team's general manager. The source said Hunt did research on the last 19 coaches who have been hired in the NFL and determined their average salary to range between $2 million and $3 million, which would be an acceptable proposal by the NFL Management Council. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen would be obligated to pay the balance of Shanahan's three-year contract at approximately $6.5 million per year.

Why on earth would Shanahan go along with this? He's going to burn up a 20 year friendship - not just between him and Pat Bowlen, but their families as well - to give the billionaire Hunt family salary relief - all the while making only as much as he would have going to the golf course every day? Get real.

Hm. Wasn't Shanahan pretty much ambushed by his 20 year friend firing him?

I must have missed the memo where Shanahan quit and wasn't FIRED.

It's not a matter of NFL.com giving anything. It's a matter of people having reliable contacts close to the situation.

Then you might want to read this piece by Tim Arango, published in The New York Times. Arango is a corporate media reporter, who breaks more stories than any business journalist in the country. His news articles are highly publicized on networks and are followed closely by Wall Street and Fortune 500 companies.

The article below by Tim Arango, he writes "Who owns sports coverage." Very interesting read.

Okay so what if the Chiefs are negotiating right now, could they negotiate with Todd Haley right now? Or do they have to wait until after the SB...just curious to know if Haley is in the picture?

I doubt that would be Jack Harry.

I must have missed the memo/interview where Shanahan blew up and vowed revenge. All I recall him saying was good things about Bowlen and his time with the Broncos.

Maybe you can supply a link or something since you're so close the situation.

More than anything, it looks like the Chiefs have worked a deal for Shanahan (or are very, very close) and they are just downplaying the thing to give the Chiefs the time needed to go through the motions of satisfying the Rooney rule.

Yup.

Like I said, no other reason to fire Herm today, no other reason for all this to leak today.

It looks like Schefter is still in denial!
