Remind me though... When did the Chiefs last draft a QB in that range?

I don't remember? 92and 89 maybe? Blundin and Elkins?

How are we defining "down the field"?

In Alex Smith terms that might be anything beyond the line of scrimmage.

2. It's hilarious projecting how far into the future the anti-Smiths will continue to push Armageddon. He'll never win, he'll never beat a good team, he'll lose to a good team on the road, he'll cost us in the playoffs, he's sure to botch an AFC championship game, no way he does shit in a SB, OK, 1 SB, but that's it. ROFL ROFL ROFL. Of course the first miscue will the very apex of 'I'VE BEEN TELLING YOU ALL ALONG!!! YAY ME!!!!'

Lol. Sounds familiar.

In terms of Smith, I'm going with "beyond 10 yards."

No.

I still believe he is below average, and roughly in the same stratosphere as Cassel.

I am for damn sure positive the end result is the same: tears.

I know that 14 points is a lot of points, though.

the better offense, only scored 16 themselves.

And don't even say about the defense. You yourself thought until today that the Dallas defense was better than the Chiefs....

But, the Dallas defense isn't TRASH. Their front 7 is very good.

Clay you said there was no way in hell Alex Smith throws 25 TD passes.

Well, he has 4 after 2 games.

So you're saying Alice Smith is a good enough QB to make your team average?

Well I definitely agree with you that he's an average QB LMAO

Well how good were you last year? Well below average I think....STFU

I'm not going to dwell on it this week because I enjoyed the win too much.

But this offense is not going to be a sustainable path to playoff football. Smith is not making good presnap reads. He's also clearly afraid to place a throw to the outside receivers. He has to be able to test the edges and not just rely on guys being open out of cuts. Defenses have 8 quarters worth of reasons to stack the box and crowd the middle of the field. They will continue to blitz with impunity if Alex is incapable of burning them for it.

Smith is a better QB than Cassel by miles, but what our offense is doing is not going to be a sustainable recipe for winning.

Great post.

And people are complaining.

Idiots.

I agree.

I do believe however that Alex Smith will help groom that guy that eventually could get them there.

Ie, someone like Bray.....

When they picked up Smith, this was my most optimistic, yet realistic view... maybe this time, this regime has a master plan and knows Smith will only get them so far until they find a QB they really believe is the guy who can take them deep into the playoffs.

Of course, it hasn't happened in the past 4 decades...

If you are ok with Alex starting for 2013/2014, that's fine. Two years of average play isn't a complete killer for his compensation. If you are ok with extending Alex for 2015 and not drafting a QB in the next two years... then **** off.

ViperVisor 09-15-2013 04:22 PM

Did I dream the penalties and non existent running backs for 55 min.

Beating yourself and no running game. You typically are not gonna score 3 TDs.

This is a brilliant post.

Remaining wary of the flaws in Alex Smith's game and the limited upside that results from those flaws is not bitching. It's just having eyes open.

I thought when they acquired Smith that he was a solid NFL starter in the 15-20 range, who could win a decent number of regular season games with a good defense and running game around him. That would need a GREAT defense and GREAT running game around him to win at a playoff level.

I have thought from the beginning that was not good enough for long-term plans, and that the price was too high. I continue to hope I'm wrong about that. I keep hoping we're going to see what Andy Reid saw that made Alex Smith his dreamboat QB. That Andy Reid can unlock that ability he sees.

Just haven't seen it. So far, Alex Smith has been exactly what detractors thought he was. It's an upgrade. It makes the team better. It puts it in position to win 8-10 games.

That's just not enough for me, long-term. It's fine as long as they're actively trying to replace Smith this offseason (unless he starts playing at a higher level than he has so far) and don't "sit" at the QB position with Smith, Daniel and Bray.
