This will be the newest addition to the arsenal - Heckler & Koch USP .40 caliber. Hopefully I'll have it in about a week. :thumb:

You're in the buying mood these days. Great choice. I'm still trying to talk my s.o into an AR. That and a .40 cal.

Pants got his rifle, and he is holding mine for me. I just need to make it up to KC when I get a chance to pick it up.

More of an upgrade than anything else. I sold my Glock, and that's paying for most of it.

She's just laying there yearning for you, man. Also, what would you guys recommend as far as good .223 ammo and a decent place to get it from?

Here's what I bought for mine and while I haven't put a ton through my AR, what I have shot has been fine.

Fellas... I'm considering a .40SW handgun. I like the Ruger P94.

Never owned a .40SW. Thoughts?

I have a S&W Stainless 4006 and I love it. I've never been able to get over the looks of a Ruger....completely personal preference though. You should take a look at the S&W M&P and Springfield XD models too. Nice handguns.

I just got the 9mm Ruger (P95) and love it.

If you're looking for a .40, though, you might want to consider the one I just ordered - a used H&K USP from Summit Gun Broker for $495. The best price I found anywhere else for a used one was around $600, and a new one goes for around $900 to $1000.

I'd love the HK honestly. But I haven't seen one under $700 used...

I'm more interested in general thoughts about shooting a .40. Never owned this caliber. It would essentially be a fun gun, just for shooting the shit out of targets. And a backup home defense gun.

I'm still debating whether to go with .40 or 9mm for this purpose. It will get much more use as a target practice gun, which makes me think 9. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind trying a higher caliber. Not sure if the price difference would be worth getting the .40..?

Please do. I think it would be well worth it at that price.... that's a damn fine looking machine.

Yep. SOCOM uses them for a reason.

I decided that I would get a handgun this year for home defense. I've never owned a gun in my life so after some research I figured I'd start with just a 9mm and see where I go from there. So, I bought a Glock 19 tonight and I'll pick it up on Tuesday. I'll probably try to find some sort of handgun use and safety course sometime this summer so I'll know what I'm doing. Not sure if I'll get a CCW license or not.

My question: since I don't know a damned thing about guns (my family was never big on guns at all, I think my dad had a rifle that he got rid of when we were born) is there anything I should look for in ammo? Are they all basically the same? Use cheap ammo for practicing at a range and something else for home defense? I'm lost.

Also, I'd like any comments on whether the Glock 19 is a good choice for a first gun or if I'm wasting my money.
