Meritocracy?
LMAO LMAO Vitale is going ape shit. |
Here we go with the good stuff. Dick Vitale defending the mid-majors and Jay Bilas acting like we shouldn't have any mid-majors at all.

There's a strong argument that the mountain west deserved 3 teams....over teams like: Arizona Michigan |

Just before the FF games, he said UCLA and UNC would advance, and then he picked Memphis in the NC game.... he's the Kiss of Death. |

I can't understand how Arizona could get in over San Diego State... not that this hasn't been covered. their RPI and SOS were both like 30 places better, were they not

And Arizona beat no one on the road... |
I usually defend the mid-majors, but I'm fair. I was the one pimping the Mo. Valley a few years ago when they were really good, the KU fans laughed me out of the building for saying Bradley could beat them. But to be fair, I don't think we have anything like that this year. Nobody is that good.
But I think Vitale has a good argument that the more we bring in these power teams it rewards teams that win 18-19 games and are really mediocre. That's not any fun to watch in the first round. It's more fun to watch a Davidson go up against Syracuse or somebody. |

It's not just a mid-major thing, though. Looking at all of the 5 or 6 seeds and above, I see almost NOBODY capable of a sustained run. WVU is good for a few games, maybe, and I could definitely see a few mid-low seeds pulling upsets in the first round, but looking at a bracket, almost NOBODY outside of the top 4 seeds looks like a real threat.
|
Well, I think Vitale is certainly making more sense than anyone else in this argument.
